    WEDGWOOD TODAY
A small reservoir with a factory in the background (it is the 18th century Wedgwood Works). Track through the disused factory building, with abandoned machinery and broken windows. MS wooden machinery wheels. (The narrator speaks of the skill, care and craftsmanship of the Wedgwood workers throughout the last two centuries, and today, the old essential skills have been combined with modern techniques to create 'Wedgwood Today')
Cut to CU the wheel of a shiny sports car which pulls up outside the new Wedgwood building. CU the blue and white pottery in the window. MS the design room with a designer at his drawing board. He's surrounded by designs, drawings and examples of finished pottery. Various shots men at the potters wheel decorating the china. CU a potters wheel as a pot is formed. Various shots as the camera pans around workers preparing clay and throwing pots. CU the various stages of pot making. Filling moulds with liquid. Undoing the moulds to show the finished pots. Pressing plates and dishes. Using machinery and moulds to make cups and bowls. Making and adding the traditional Wedgwood decorations of Greek figures etc. A large row of kilns. CU the swinging pendulum of a gold clock. Men checking temperature gauges. The kiln doors open to reveal the newly fired china. Workers hand carving fine details using paper patterns. Machines to stamp on a variety of designs. A large room of women hand painting the china. CU the fine details and paint work. Transfers being applied. Rows of stacked china being put into the kiln. Scenes of polishing and applying gold trim.
The camera pans along display units showing the enormous variety of items that the factory produces. Dinner services, coffee pots and tea sets, vases and urns and decorative objects.
GV scenes of daily life showing the everyday use of Wedgwood - A family at home having breakfast in their kitchen; a young woman enjoying afternoon tea and cake; a man in a restaurant; a formal candlelit dinner party. As the host rises to pour wine for his guests the camera closes in on a decorative Grecian style urn in his dining room.

Such perfection and skills in people's work back in those days. They all had to endure perfection at an industrial pace. How they done that is incredible.

Masters of their craft. How there could be such consistency in the hand work and on such a large scale.

Wonderful to have this available to watch on TH-cam. However, the date is clearly incorrect. 1960 instead of 1950, perhaps?

Just today I've been to Saratov's museum (Russia), they now have about 240 examples of Wedgwood porcelain, from 19th century to nowadays. That's fantastic. I've seen this movie also there. Thank you for your work.

This would most likely have been filmed sometime between 1967 and 1970. Certainly not 1950.

There is something very wrong with the 1950 date.
E type Jaguar in from late 60s, 1966 maybe. The style of dressing and hair also shows this is 1966 or later

It is still made here in a purpose built facility in the same Town. There’s the Wedgwood museum and you can throw pottery in the factory and have it fired for a fee and watch things being made there’s also discounted prices in the factory shop at the museum.

Being a Wedgwood novice, IS Wedgwood still actually made today in 2023?
