- Special Christmas Train With Santa In Virginia! CSX Office Car Special, Pacing Train! Train In Haysi & Dante, Virginia, Tossing Toys To Appalachia Children. The train goes through the tunnel in Haysi, Virginia and stops so that Santa can give toys to the local children. The special locomotives are F40PH-2 units that are used on the CSX OCS train. The Santa train was the 80th running of the Santa train. It ran from Shelby, Kentucky to Kingsport, Tennessee. The best frequency to listen to for this train was 161.100. After the Haysi stop we see the train in Clinchco, Virginia. I didn't plan on stopping here but the train beat me here and the road was closed for the event.
Next we see the train coming into Dante, Virginia. A person who lives there told me that it is pronounced by the locals as "Daint" as in Paint. Go ahead and argue amongst yourselves. I filmed the train in both of these towns back in 2017 when engine 800 led the train. See those videos for more.
Then we see the train going over a small railroad bridge that I found while I was driving toward Speers Ferry. I got a good shot of it coming around the curve and over the bridge.
After that I paced the train and then got a great shot of it passing some historic Clinchfield Railroad line side signals that are still in use. That was cool! This is where Part 2 ends. Part 3 will be the train crossing the gigantic and very high Copper Creek Trestle at Speers Ferry, Virginia. Part 1 which is already posted, shows the train entering Kingsport, Tennessee where I shoot video with Hobo Shoestring. We filmed it adding an additional theatre car to the rear and then we drove south of Kingsport to film it crossing another tall railroad trestle. There was a 3 car motor vehicle accident there while we were waiting for the train. Don't miss that Epic video!
Filmed in 1080p with 60fps on Saturday, November 19, 2022AD
Thanks for watching! If you have time, please watch another video of mine to help keep my channel going. Every view helps support my channel. Viewing time helps pay for gas, motels, rental cars etc. I have a list of places that I plan on filming so watch another video of mine if you have the time.

The original Santa train was a challenger 676 Clinchfield on November of 1992 UP teamed up with CSX they renumbered the UP 3985 challenger to 676 in did the route by steam from Shelbiana,Kentucky to Kingsport, Tennessee for the 50th running of the Santa Clause Special. All of the areas in your video today was the original Clinchfield line they took gifts for the children of the coal mining towns this is the tradition that CSX now carries on ! Thanks for your video today JT ! 👀👨✈️👀👷♂️👍🙋🏻TRACKS AHEAD 😎👨✈️🎩👀👍👍👍
I think it's great that the railroad does the Santa train, & gives back to people in the towns that they run there trains through there train car's are great thanks Jaw Tooth for the video and your time always enjoy them, be safe out there.
Absolutely exquisite train. It shines like a brand new penny. Thank you for driving all that way to capture that video for us.
You have just proved to me why I use a Garmin GPS and my ham radio. I'm never without communication in times when nothing else works. Something that you might want to think about. I've been in ham radio since '59 so I'm not a spring chicken but I'm also not older than dirt as my father used to say.
What a NICE THING to do for the children, brought a tear to my eye,oh if we can be this kind to everyone daily!❤
Excellent video. Nice to see CSX bring back a tradition with such a rich history. Thank you!
thanks for watching !
WOW what a nice video. And the people there looks so happy and even put me in a happy feeling. Thanks for this wonderful video because this really lifted my CHRISTMAS SPIRITS
JT you are the greatest on u tube, thanks for captures of that awesome. train what a beauty. Thanks again JT. 👍👌😇🇺🇸🙏
Great to see Santa on a train making kids happy. I've been driving Santa for 32 years on our antique fire truck in Northern Va. Kids and adults just love it. Nice video👍🏻🎅
That was a 1st Class video!
👍👍👍👍👍
I was a professional Santa for several years.
Specialized in pet photos to raise funding for rescue groups. Over 30,000 pet photos.
Awesome work Jawtooth!
Never a disappointment.
Godspeed to you and yours.
Wow, that is awesome! Thanks for being good to me Santa! Also, thanks for watching my videos!
What an great sight to see. The smiles and cheers from the ppl for Santa is awesome. That CSX train is really nice. I'd like to see the inside of it one day. Wow, what view from walking the bridge. They must have a ton of toys! Looks like a great time for the kiddos. The horn sounds awesome! Great chase, Jaw Tooth! Norfie!! Dupps and friend!! It's corn!!
JT is unquestionably the hardest working man in railfan videography.
Absolutely love this! Warms my heart to see the kiddos get gifts!
You have such a fun, pleasant presentation. Always so well done. Good knowledge of the rail industry. Provides lots of entertainment for me while recovering. Almost feel like I know you. Thank you so much!
Feel better soon
American railroad have playing heart . Envious ! Thank you very much .
Thanks for watching !
So awesome for these poor children to receive Christmas, what a blessing.
I never tire of admiring this gleaming train! I'm no longer old enough to receive the toys he distributes so generously, but my pleasure is nonetheless present! Thank you for sharing.
I love it; what a beautiful train, Stunning. Thank you again JT, you’ve made my day.
This is a wonderful thing that CSX does thank you jaw tooth for being there and bring us the Christmas spirit
One can see this was an all hands on deck assignment for CSX employees. If it wasn't for this you never see that many clean hard hats and vests. No matter where or what time that business train is the hands down classiest one in the country
I saw it at night coming thru the Greenbrier river valley... at first I thought it was one of those rail grinders it was lit up so bright. There are LED lights all over it. Quite a spectacle.
@@BlackMan614 at night that must be an awesome sight. Back in the mid 60s actually got to ride the Capital Limited it was a really great trip. If the rail strike doesn't happen we get the CP Christmas train in about a week and a half. They have a nice business train with F9 units and mostly heavyweights but hasn't been here in over 2 years guess the US doesn't count for a visit
When the NS executive train goes through employees aren't allowed to even be visible. They have to hide.

Santa trains are sooo cool. This train is so pretty it hurts. Here comes santa claus, here comes santa claus, riding on the santa claus train
Beautiful train. How quiet that train is. Well cared for. Unlike the load freights. Thanks for the hard work Brian.
Thank you for your hard work to share this video with us. 🥰
Jaw Tooth - your 3-part coverage of the CSX Santa Special train is award-worthy. Thanks for the extraordinary effort ("no cellphone coverage," plus the terrain) and result. What a handsome train with that traditional B&O livery. Wonderful shot at 23:30 at curve and short bridge. You have given THE BEST gift to railfans. You're our honorary Santa.
Such a beautiful train! My 73rd birthday is in 9 days. Looks like another combined birthday and Christmas present again, if I get anything at all. I am beginning to seriously doubt the 'naughty' or 'nice' thing. I've been good (well, mostly... and define 'nice'). If he can get through the snow in my hometown of Hamburg, New York or down here to Puebla, México... from the train conductor, to passengers, all the way back to Santa, I'm gonna show 'em the presents I'm handing out... cans of spray paint to wanna be graffiti artists. RT sends, Puebla, México... I'm NOT bitter!
Yes JT this is one of your best videos, thanks for filming this event and sharing with everyone, Beautiful train, nice job CSX
That's the old Clinchfield line. It was cool to see the actual church in Dante, which Model Railroad magazine modeled in N scale several years ago. Nice video, JT...
Herrliches Fotomotiv, zuerst die drei Loks und dann der Zug vor der Kirche, bei bestem Foto Licht 👍👍👍
This is a cool video - maybe my favorite this year. The train is magnificent, I wish we knew the history of each car and engine. It’s great to see CSX employees out and supporting this, I know they must have a lot on their minds these days. Best is seeing the families turn out for this and the gifts. I remember non-train events like this from when I was a kid a hundred years ago. Thanks, Jaw Tooth for the effort to follow this train, can’t wait to see the next video.
Train TH-camr Distant Signal made a video of this train. I can't post the link or remember the exact title, but he gives a lot of information on this train.
The last car, with Santa, is named after Jervis Langdon Jr., former President of the B&O.
Nice they do that for the kids. Looks Like you spent quite a few hours chasing that train. Nice looking train also. If you ever get the chance chase the Reading and Northern 2102. One great catch on that locomotive is when it exits the Tamaqua tunnel very loud. ear piercing. Cool video.
If people weren't in the Christmas Spirit , they should be now Son . Gotta go watch yesterday's vid ... Thx for all you do ...
Thanks for watching !
Thank you for Part 2 of the CSX Santa train, Jaw Tooth! You found some wonderful locations along the tracks to capture the Santa train. I enjoyed watching this part of the video and I look forward to Part 3. Watching the Santa train on the Copper Creek Trestle should be the highlight of the upcoming video.
how very nice this video is. thanks for filming and sharing! ~Cat
the CSX boys & girls certainly put some elbow grease into having that Santa Train spit & polished for this run, so cool to see it being hauled by Locos CSX 001, 002, 003 as well. Great catch JT.
Ein schöner Zug. Die Farbgebung ist toll, sieht sehr exklusiv aus. Danke fürs Zeigen.
Now thats what Im talking about.
Gorgeous, beautiful, well kept groomed locomotives and passenger cars.
Awesome job by CSX.
Always admired the olde Baltimore and Ohio paint scheme
on their F-3s,F-5s,F-7s.
Actually trying to put together a Baltimore and Ohio passenger train in O gauge now.
Not easy to find clean passenger cars without acratches, dings,or
smudges.
Super video, really enjoyed all of it.
Great job chasing Santa! Thanks for being there for us.
Lovely, great show, like we have in the Uk reminds me of when we were kids 60 or 70 years ago. Such a lovely train.! !!!!
Nice job yet again JT and to see the Santa Train is always a Special thing to see when the youngsters get to see Santa and get a gift! God bless you for all you do JT to bring a smile to fans and subscribers that appreciate the PRICELESS effort you put forth in your videos! Cheers from Delmar, Delaware my friend
What a beautiful train! And fun seeing Santa and his helpers throwing toys to the children. Everybody was was was well-behaved and calm.
Yes, it was a very friendly atmosphere . Thanks for watching !
Great footage of the CSX Santa train. Thanks for traveling to get those great shots to share with us!
I went to see the CP Christmas Train a few years ago along the Mississippi River in Lansing IA. The train had Christmas lights on every car, and you could see it for miles winding in and out of the hollows along the river. When it finally got to town and stopped, the side of one of the cars dropped down to make a stage, and a band played Christmas songs. Little elves were tossing toys and candy from the stage, and circulated through the crowd as well. There were easily a thousand people there in the middle of tiny little Lansing. Not sure if they started this back up again, but I hope so! 🎅🏻🎅🏻
It's running again for the first time since 18. It'll be hoping through MI/OH&IN tomorrow night into Friday on its way to Chicago. Sadly no stops or shows between Windsor and Chicago due to being on foreign tracks.
Great catches of CSX Santa Train. Really beautiful & shiny looking train. Really awesome they throw out gifts.
Didn’t know Santa clause was a rail fan lol. That’s one beautiful train, nothing but the best for Santa 🎅🏻. Once again appreciate you efforts JT, thanks.👍🏼🚂🎅🏻
That was an absolutely gorgeous train and I appreciate the event for the kids and their families. It would be really cool to be a part of giving the presents out and seeing all the smiling faces
never saw this in my life Beautiful Train lovely location
Good to meet you Brian and have breakfast and hangout with you and Mark.. even if everything was stopped for over 8 hours on Sunday.. 👍
That is one beautiful train from the headend units to the observation car. Hats off to the paint shop and to management to make this happen.
Remember railroad freight is in jeopardy,
Thanks CSX and happy holidays....
Wow , that is cool and great for kiddies .
Everyone must look forward to this each year.
What beautiful livery on that train too.
Thanks !
What an immaculate train! You did an awesome job capturing it! Great video JT!
🚂🚂🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃
You had fantastic light for that. 😎 Thanks JT 👍
I love the church by the tracks in Dante. That was a great view you got of the front of the train, with the church in the background. The Santa Train seems like a great ting, and it's really pretty too.
I'm glad CSX is doing this again! Such a great tradition.
It's like a scene from the "Waltons".
What nice Santa Train. CSI gave out a lot of toys book bags Christmas items to the folks of that VA. Town , very nice very nice they were quite liberal in giving out Christmas toys!
ChainsawN&W1218, nice footage of the EMD F40PH locomotives 🚂,pretty scenery!👍🛤
Absolutly AWESOME. One of the best videos of the year. The Santa train the locations and the pacing shots are all great. Thanks for this one JT !!
I love seeing these beautiful cars and engines not full of graffiti. Great video as usual! Happy Holidays to you and your lovely family!🎅🏻🛤️🧑🏻🎄🎁🤶🏻🚂🤶🏻🌲🧑🏻🎄☃️🎅🏻🎄
You need to see the CP Holiday train at night. It came to Maine this year and was absolutley BEAUTIFUL to look at. Something that will stay with me for the rest of my life, even thou I'm 64.
What a cool tradition! Great video Jaw Tooth!
Great video Jawtooth! I tagged in just north of St Paul, didn’t see you at Copper Creek, looking forward to that video!
As usual you did another great video. Thanks for sharing. Thank you for your efforts. This is the first time I have seen the Santa train. Much appreciated.
Ho ho ho happy holidays and great video keep up the good work God bless from GA stay safe 🙏
that is nice for them to do that. shows great appreciation and love for others
Great video. Enjoyed the Christmas train. Giving kids toys was nice. Meriden, Kansas
WoW nice catch that’s pretty cool
Haysi, VA looks like it's not trucker friendly.... Glad to see that CSX was able to run the train this year...
Thanks for the long trip! A safe travel home! 😊
The B&O paint scheme is the best!
Love those f40's,,, got head end power too! Beautiful consist! Thanks!
That livery reminds me of the old B&O livery. Very shard looking train. It would be nice if CSX would switch their over all livery to this.
Always awesome to see the Santa Train!
That's Toka's favorite thing too a cardboard box of any kind. especially one he can hide in.
Great looking consist. All clean and shiny.
That was really awesome that's what Christmas is all about making the children happy thank you for the video
Very nice video jaw tooth! One of the best!
Thanks!
Thanks for you labors to get such a fine video! Sparkling train set, and looks like classic B&O livery as well!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Wow that was an impressive train. Thanks to make that trip for us.
Wonderful video, Jawtooth! The classic view of the Union Baptist Church in Dante with the immaculate CSX Officials Train in the foreground in perfect lighting is hard to match. Shout out to CSX and all the wonderful volunteers for continuing the great Clinchfield tradition with the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce. A longtime resident of Dante once told me that the Christmas Season in Dante begins with the arrival of the Santa Train, an eagarly anticipated event.
You are a good man Mr. JT: I hope you find a hot coffee and a donut/bagel/sandwich. Great Videos - you take care, my friend.
Spectacular video! Happy Holidays to the entire Jaw Tooth nation. But wait, there’s more in the New Year. 🎉
A very special video. Thank you so much.
You must do a lot of motel hopping or camping. Love Santa
Well done especially getting tr n Dark am busy try watch some!
Thank you jaw tooth and thank you csx for both of youalls hard work.
You found several great places to take excellent shots along the route. Thanks for the effort.
As a local, I’m impressed with how close you were to pronouncing Haysi right since outsiders usually pronounce it as “Hay-see”.
Normally, locals pronounce it as “Hay-sye”.
Awesome! I'm glad I got it right. I gotta film a coal train there some day
We have watched a lot of your videos and they are all good. This one is beyond good. It is outstanding. Hard to have a bad one when the train is, dare I say it, beautiful! And the concept of taking toys to the kids is super special. But the shots you got of the train coming out of the tunnel, to the tracks almost on the church steps, the small bridge, the old signal are so perfect! Thanks for sharing this. Anxiously waiting to see part 2! Now it's time to go get out the atlas and see just where you videoed this!
This special train looks great...good video🙂👍
This is a great deal , so happy for the kids
Love the mountains very nice video brother
Did I hear you correctly? Did you travel 200 miles for this. Thank you for all the hard work you do to bring these videos to us. It is much appreciated. Merry Christmas to you
My thoughts entirely! Thanks JT for all your great videos
I travelled a total of 757 miles for this train and to film with Shoestring in Bristol
@@JawTooth thank you again for what you do. I love trains and its greatly appreciated.
@@JawTooth Yes thanks for all of your hard work for all of us rail fans JT ! 👨✈️👀😎👍👍
Na und, die Entfernung zu einer Museums Bahn im Erzgebirge beträgt von mir auch etwa 320 Meilen. Ich bin jedes Jahr mindestens 1 mal dort.
Great videography, you picked some great scenes! Loved the rise in topography above the tunnel in the first segment, vertical rock and concrete wall, excellent for modeling. Above all, the classic and unmatched B&O paint scheme in all their brilliant splendor. Thank you for making the trip!
Thanks for making the long drive to get some truly great pictures. It's fun to see such a beautiful squeeky clean 🚂 assortment of locomotives and cars and all put to such good use.
Super great video JT. Just a great train on many levels. Love those F40PH engines and glad you got some good shots of them. You are a long way from home but appreciate you chasing this train. It sure generated a lot of interest. The BNSF did something like this back in the 90s through small towns along the old Frisco line in SW Missouri near Springfield. I'm glad you were able to get both sides. The last shot with the Clinchfield signals was great. Thanks.
What a beautiful train.
You no it's so cool to see it csx it's good
You won't find a cleaner train.Nice video. Thanks for chasing it.
Some great catches of the Santa train!! As usual...unique backgrounds and settings❤
Thanks for watching !
