It was pretty dumb theory based on early assumptions of "monkey paw" nature of wishes fulfillment. Luckily this wasn't a case with wishes. Why is it dumb? Cause there is no way the small girl (Mami wasn't even teen during accident) wish for something so vague and elaborate on the brink of sudden death. In such moments grown-up people let alone children think of only one thing: survive. And official manga adaptation of Madoka confirms this simple truth. Mami wish was stated there and it was "Help me\Save me".
What a stupid theory she was already dying with her parents when she made the wish......

Mami Tomoe went into this fight completely unprepared for the possibility that the witch she was fighting against might actually try to attack her.
This was the first witch that Mami fought who used a decoy.

In Mami’s defence she bound the witch and even if she survived she would have to use 9-10 tiro finale so either way she wouldn’t survive for long because of this fight.

She was over-confident because from then on she would have had Madoka figthing by her side. Mami was feeling so euphoric that she was caught off-guard by Charlotte.
Mami literally lost her head over not being alone anymore...
Thinking about Mami’s wish, despair, and Mami’s death. I think I finally may have a grasp on her outfit design. Her wish was, to our knowledge, stay alive. From that wish she was the sole survivor of a car accident. So she lost her parents, then had trouble making friends at school and with other magical girls. Her despair came in the form of being isolated and alone. When Madoka promised to make a contract and stay by Mami’s side, she got so excited her fighting was affected and she became reckless and careless from joy. Then she died leaving two survivors that considered her an older caring figure, same as her parents left her. She suffered from being alone above all else. Which leads me to her outfit design, a nod to being a gunslinger from the West. Westerns have a common theme of loneliness and being outcast from the little human presence in a vast swath of land (except for the indigenous people living there before...).
So. Mami’s parents died and left her to be alone, Mami struggled to make nonmagical girl friends and other magical girls viewed her as competition which made her feel isolated, Madoka finally promised to be her friend and partner so Mami wouldn’t be alone. Then Mami got killed because of it. Her outfit is based off of a place known for its loneliness. Even Candelora, her witch form, lured people in so they’d keep her company.
tl,dr: Mami’s story is so sad.

whats even sadder, is that when she becomes a witch (probably in another timeline) , what drove her into despair was realizing that magical girls turned into witches, and she invited so many girls into this shitty fate with her.
what's even sadder is that her wish was ultimately redundant as becoming a magical girl would have allowed her to heal herself with magic.

Yuan Zhi Lee they are not Charlotte’s but there’s part of Charlotte’s ear(?) on the floor at one point probably because she died and rebirthed herself.

I like how if you watch really closely, you can always see Homura vanish just a few frames before Charlottes mouth closes on a bite. It just looks like teleporting from the audience's perspective, but the animators made sure to keep things in line with Homura's actual powers. We don't get to see her at work in this fight, but once you know she's pausing time to fight, you can tell exactly what she was really doing in this fight.
Who is Charlotte?

I'm still pissed that Homura didn't tell Sayaka why she was unable to save Mami. That would have made her more trusted and let Sayaka be more willing to purify her soul gem when Homura offered one to her.
I'm willing to bet that when this happened in other timelines (and it probably did happen in other timelines seeing as before going into the witch, Homura tells Mami that she'll die if she fights) Homura did tell Sayaka. However, my interpretation of why she doesn't say now is like a video game. You're trying to beat a level, that's saving Madoka, and you can get points along the way to get a higher score, your score being how much Madoka trusts Homura, and there are cutscenes in the game, that being trying to get close to the other girls. Now you could get all the points in the level and be happier with how the level turned out, and you could watch all the cutscenes because they're pretty cool and a nice, if inconsequential, bonus, but this level is really hard. Really really hard. You play the level every day, more times than you can count over and over and over again, but yet every time, no matter how much you plan, you fail the level and have to start all over again. It's agonizing. It's exhausting, but you have to beat the level, you don't care how. _You just want to get it over with._ And so you focus on the one thing that matters most. Finishing the level. Screw the cutscenes, you never needed them. Skip them, you don't care. Forget the points, you really don't need a high score as long as you beat the level. And so you skip over every cutscene because you just don't have the patience anymore.
Think about it. Sayaka (as much as I love her) has probably been the most annoying person to deal with in Homura's eyes. She always ends up dying, her friendship with Madoka prevents Homura from protecting Madoka, her black-and-white worldview always paints Homura as a bad person and so Homura doesn't really like her. She's just a cutscene, she was never important enough to save and so she certainly doesn't deserve Homura's time, patience and condolences. She saw one girl die, Homura must think, meanwhile Madoka's died in front of Homura countless times. And so Homura doesn't care. And so Homura skips Sayaka's cutscene over and over so that she can finally get to beating her level.
By the way, I still do think that Homura should have explained herself to Sayaka and showed a little empathy, I'm just trying to explain why she doesn't.

I don't think Sayaka would have believed her regardless. Blame Madoka, she could have corrected Sayaka for thinking Homura didn't try to save Mami. Madoka was with Mami when she warned her. Madoka witnessed Mami tying her Homura up too.

Remember how unstable was Homura after jumping on a different timeline every time her purpose of saving Madoka fails. Plus, they confirmed that Homura jumped, at least, 100 times. After the third timeline, Homura HAD to kill Madoka, because she didn't want to become a witch. The Homura that we know is more unstable than anything.
Watching Mami fight Charlotte is kinda sad: Charlotte just sits there and takes a rather brutal beatdown without so much as trying to defend itself. Mami goes full on gangster execution style on the witch, attacking without hesitation or mercy. Meanwhile, Charlotte's like, "I don't understand why you're attacking me like this when all I ever wanted was to chill and eat cheese." It honestly feels like Charlotte only killed Mami because it got fed up with being shot.

I absolutely hate the way she twitches before her soul gem shatters. That’s pure nightmare fuel considering she was still alive.
Also, this scene is a really good example of how manipulative Kyubey is. He’s incapable of feeling fear, and even if Charlotte _did_ kill him it wouldn’t stick, but he IMMEDIATELY takes advantage of Mami’s death to feign panic so that her traumatised friends make a contract. He even tells them to “wish for anything.”
the fact that he encouraged the girls to accompany Mami despite the danger and the lack of emotion after the fight was over were huge red flag in hindsight.

Sad thing is that, usually after defeating a witch mami catches a cup of tea, but then we see here a cracked tea cup that mami was supposed to catch after defeating the witch
0:43 has to be basically the coolest fight scene imo, she stylishly wipes out roughly 9 familiars in 6 seconds and doesn’t suffer a slight slip-up

Even though they feel less pain that doesn't mean they can simply ignore injuries because they would need to heal with magic to continue fighting and usually it takes time, Kyubey says that Sayaka has extraordinary healing powers and that's why she can heal much faster, Homura doesn't

This hit like a bullet when I first watched it. Everything before this moment was all normal, cutesy, slightly creepy magical girl stuff and normal anime till this happened which scared the living shit out of me years ago

Modoka Magica was one of those anime's that like Gunslinger girl just ripped your heart out. Almost made you afraid to get attached to a character, because you never knew if they were the next death. In the end the journey didn't have a super sweet, happily ever afters. It end just as messed up and soul wrenching as it started. Mami death just cemented that this wasn't your typical magical anime, this was something different.
Bebe's entire thing...made me wonder if she died of starvation.
i believe she was lactose intolerant and her wish was to be able to eat cheese without repercussion (she was a grade schooler so such a petty wish would make sense in the eyes of a young child) which is why her whole character revolves around dairy products but particularly cheese as her favorite

. Charlotte was a lactose intolerant child and always wished to eat her mother's homemade cheesecakes, which was what she wished for. But then when she realized she could have made her wish to heal her dying mother in the hospital, her soul gem immediately turned into a grief seed. This explains why her familiars are mice (mice like cheese) and why there is hospital materials in the labyrinth(it hatched in the hospital) . There is also candy in the labyrinth and Charlotte herself is cartoon-esque, further leading to her being a child at the time she became a magical girl. Also, her powers have been said to be making duplicates of herself, making another theory that she wished for more than one cheesecake, perhaps to share with her mother before she passed.
I saw this one video where it said that the powers/weapons the girl had before turning into a witch also comes into play. She could have had a duplication ability
And I think Mami got eaten because because this thing got confused that Mami is cheese or something I realized that when Mami fought the background music said Käse wich means cheese

Nah it’s nothing like that. Her mom was abusive towards her because she couldn’t cope with being bedridden and her husband leaving her so she took it out on Nagisa (Charlotte) Nagisa quite literally lived in a trash dumpster of an apartment waiting for her mom and dad to return home. She met kyubey afterwards and he started to tag along while trying to convince Nagisa to become a magical girl. She met Yuu (another magical girl who lost her memory. She is in possession of a list of bad guys and she hunts down and kills people according to the list. She is nice but isn’t what you would call sane. She also kills inui’s (uhrmann) boyfriend (abusive boyfriend), and Inui becomes a witch after exhausting her magic to fight Yuu) Yuu tells Nagisa that she is searching for Nagisa’s mom (unaware she is Nagisa’s mom) and Nagisa lies and says she doesn’t know. She goes to visit her mom at the hospital and tells her about kyubey’s offer and how she can wish for her to get better. Her mom just says how much she hates everyone and how Nagisa should just wish for everyone to die instead. Has a whole breakdown. Nagisa felt upset and angry at her mom because she has been making excuses to why her mom doesn’t love her. She has a chance to get better, to make Nagisa’s life better but she won’t do it. So she wishes for the most delicious cheesecake ever as in “I could have cured you but I wished for a cake instead” (a big f u move). She became a magical girl and saw Yuu kill her mom. Yuu said since she is her mom, she’ll let Nagisa keep the body (she has good intentions I swear-). Her mother called for Nagisa and asked her for help while crying. Nagisa just stood there and didn’t even respond to her. When her mom finally quieted down, she left the hospital room and went to the lobby. She encountered uhrmann there right afterwards. She used up all her magic and became a witch. Her magical girl career lasted a total 30 minutes. She just wanted a normal and happy life like her classmates. She just wanted to be loved by her parents. She just wanted to be loved by her mom.

I think the saddest part is that when a magical girl dies, she’s almost entirely forgotten by the world
More like their physical existence almost ceases.
Her corpse remained in the labyrinth and the labyrinth was destroyed. Hence her body may as well no longer exist.
But I don't think that affects the memories of those who knew the person, including non-magic folk.
The thing about Mami was that she was alone and an orphan. So it took weeks for people to finally realize she was genuinely missing because there was no physical evidence to prove she was or wasn't alive. Just that she disappeared.

Charlotte revealing her teeth out of nowhere and instantly flying to Mami to munch on her wasn't an easy situation to avoid, though.
It's a shame she died so early. She was a really good character. But it was her fault. While Homura hadn't been the most trustworthy, she wasn't the most hostile either. She actually tried to warn Mami to watch out for the Witch. If she really had to trap Homura, she could have found alternative more movable methods.
I think it's just her fate not her fault, If Madoka wasn't there she probably would defeat Charlotte or Homura try to starts open herself to Mami so Homura can helped Mami, But from the beginning she tried to kill Kyubey without explanation and she starts being jerk and shady to Mami. So it's natural Mami didn't believe her

En este parte Madoka Magica se convirtio en uno de mis animes favoritos.

To be honest, it wasn't until this scene that I genuinely came to love this show.
At first, it was like the first episodes of JJK except not as gory, they are dealing with dark stuff but they have the strength to fight it.
But then in JJK, a cursed being almost kills Yuji, causing him to let Sukuna take over his body who then wreaks havoc and tears Yuji's heart off his body so when Sukuna lays dormant, Yuji will just die. In a more terrifying way, Mami here dies after being the happiest she'd been in a long time and rather brutally too, while Madoka and Sayaka are left scarred, with Homura being the enigma that she was, reminding us that such tragedies will happen somehow in the later future as well.
And then the banger ED plays.
It made me realize this show had way more tragedies to tell and I was all for it.

This is the best but of this passage that i've seen. It demonstrates the sudden tone shift as well as the slow build up and aftermath.
One key detail I notice:
In the start, you see Mami creating what looks like white lilies. White lilies are a funeral flower, probably representing what we’d see later on.
So this was the scene that cemented its place in Anime History.
To underestimate your enemy is to admit defeat. That is the lesson in this battle.

Tbh I really liked Mami :( even though she was only there for three episodes she was amazing and I loved her even till her death
She still one of memorable characters even she died in 3 episodes, I'm even more sadder in the Different Story manga tho

Moral of Mami's death: never go anywhere unprepared including fighting a inhuman being and also don't be too overconfident (it's fine to be like that be careful as well)

Ok, so I always hate how everyone says Mami died because she was being careless or whatever. Because in this fight…she wasn’t? Even when Charlotte does the finishing blow to Mami, she wasn’t looking away or winking or making a show of fighting a her, Mami had just finished her “Finale” and was looking right at Charlotte when she suddenly changed. And it’s in slow motion but Charlotte coming into range of Mami happens very quickly, I genuinely think she was just caught off guard and this would have always happened. I dunno, I just always see people imply Mami deserved to die somehow but she was an incredible fighter and when she fought Charlotte she literally never took her eyes off her was caught off guard here.
Yeah and it's a bit fucked to say a 15 year old deserved to die because she checks notes, had beef with an unapproachable person like Homura
