In Italy we use to call him "Maestro" (the Master). He wasn't only a stunning musician and poet. He was a wonderful person, a soul that seemed being touched from something we cannot reach and completely understand in our terrestrial existences. I always cry when I listen to this song. And that's what happened just right now. Tears were so heavy. ❤️

Imagine a soul speaking to the just born body it is in. That's this song. A soulspeaking to its body. At a certain point he sings "...starting from today you will encoutner on your way" or also "from the failures that for your nature you will attract" . You do not say to your loved ones that he'she attracts failures, do you ? Franco battiato was not only a poet, he was also only of the best ones.

Battiato was an experimentalist, a deep connoisseur of western and eastern cultures; philosophy, religion, history, poetry, literature are all found in his music and his lyrics. A huge figure who has marked the Italian music scene since the 70s, he also composed classical music works. Everytime I listen to his songs I'm taken to another land, a better one where everything is positive and life is suspended from the chaos and ugliness. He has the ability of taking your soul on a beautiful journey. I adore him 💕

The interpretation of this song is spiritual. Battiato is singing playing the role of God. That's why he sings that he is going to protect us from evil and from deseases because we are special beings in His eyes. So touching if you interpretate this song like this.

  • @guglielmomengora349

This is not a love song. This a song that speaks about music itself. It is the music that will never make you grow old, that will protect you from anything, that will make you cross space and time and that makes you a special being since we're the only specie on Earth to be able to make music. Battiato wrote this song because it was music that helped him to heal from a nervous breakdown so he's basically thanking music to be such a powerful force. Many people assume this song is about love but it is not ;-)

Franco Battiato was a great "soul researcher", we could say, he was always fascinated by spirituality and people like Gurdjieff, Jesus, Buddha, Socrates, and other masters of history. And most likely, the song "La Cura" also had a spiritual background, like many of his other songs. In this song, it is most likely the soul who is having a conversation with the person, to whom he tells and promises that he will protect him. Marvelous.

In Italy, Battiato is known as "The Maestro", for good reasons; I mean, a love song giving goose bumps to a metalhead means something.
Although quite ok, the translation is a little bit incorrect, the original one is even better. Let me fix a few things:
4:28 "Ti porterò soprattutto la pazienza, percorreremo insieme le vie che portano all'essenza" = "What I will give you, above everything else, will be patience/resilience. We'll walk together on the path leading to essence/truth".
4:44 "Bonaccia D'Agosto" = refers to a sailing term, "stillness of winds (typical of the month of August in the Mediterranean sea)". It's the lack of wind making a ship unable to manoeuvre. It refers to lack of passion, equating the stillness winds unable to fill a sail to the lack of passion in a relationship. He says he won't allow that to happen.
4:51 "trame di un canto" = "threads of a song" (not "plot"). Trama is literally the weft thread in a pattern; it's also used for "plot" of a story or a novel, but in this context "thread" is more adequate than "plot".
4:55 "Conosco le leggi del mondo e te ne farò dono": "I know the laws of the world, and I will make a gift for you out of them". Here the Maestro pictures himself as a warlock, or a mage of some kind, who knows the scientific and spiritual laws ordering reality, and he says that he will make a package out of them, and gift the listener with this priceless knowledge. In my opinion, this is the most beautiful sentence in the whole song.
5:03 "Supererò le correnti gravitazionali" - "I will step across any gravitational current" -- overcome (as shown is the translation) is sort of ok, but in reality it's more "run faster than...". Just a nitpick here.
However the translation shown in the video is 95% correct, and not terribly off in the places where it is incorrect, so quite a good job!
Also, be sure to hear the orchestra live version (the Maestro was much older, but the music is just worth): th-cam.com/video/6JHhYZ664DQ/w-d-xo.html (edit: they changed the link)

You're reacting to all my favorite italian artists, that's great! Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to Franco Battiato earlier this year, i was so devastated. He was a poet and a philosopher, many of his songs are inspired by Greek philosophers. I was in high school when i started listening to his songs and got fascinated by grek philosopy. He was also a wonderful human being. Years ago, while i was trying my luck in the entertainment business, i worked to one of his concerts, they had me staying in the hallway to his changing room to make sure nobody was sneaking in (it was summer, the concert was in an outdoor arena and people could easily reach him) i was literally a nobody young girl and i still remember hearing him talking saying that he wanted to meet every single person who worked hard to make the concert happening, that we were the important ones and not him...few seconds later he walked to me and introduced himself and thanked me to be there. It was such a beautiful moment...he really was an amazing soul. Sorry for my ramblings!

Battiato was called the "Master" in Italy, a "spiritual" and esoteric master, expressing himself in songs. There are also stories speaking about him in a High level (good) massonic groups, using symbolics expressions and words to be interpretate in his songs.

A lot of people use to choose this song for their Wedding video soundtrack because is very touching and emotional.
He doesn't let you understand the person who's this song is dedicated, but I read somewhere the person was his mother maybe when she was going to die, but anyway it's a universal love and can touch the heart of everybody.
You can perceive behind that words there was a man with a enormous culture, a poet, even though you can't pronouce his name correctly.
He wrote a couple of operas too about Ghilgamesh a epic sumeric of mesopotamia king.
In the '70 he was a pioneer of electronic avant-garde music, he had many musical periods like David Bowie.

i heard it was dedicated to a dear friend with cancer. Pronounce is Bah-t-tee-ah-toh with both "ah" as in the "o" in "god" (geez! :-) ).

This song was dedicated to his soul as most of his songs are based on the intangible things of the life. Definitely it is not a conventional love song written for a person but for his soul.

Everybody assumes this is a love song from somebody to someone else. Actually, Battiato was really adamant in explaining that that was a superficial way of reading the song. The actual meaning of the song is a thorough description of what you experience during meditation. Which is love.

There's a thing that I've ever said about "metalheads" like me. A true metalhead isn't only into metal. He's into Music at 360°. A true metalhead has the TASTE, and he knows how to enjoy a good technique, how to enjoy good lyrics, good attitude... even if we're not talking about metal but we're talking about a pop italian love song. Thanks for the reaction and thanks to Franco Battiato that gave us gems like that during his incredible career.

Andrea. Tu continua così che sei forte!

    - Via Del Campo - Inverno - Dolcenera - Jamin-a - Crêuza de mä - Don Raffaé - Il Pescatore
I surely forget some, but I will love to see your reaction on this one.
