@@ivanpretto5220We were talking about masterpieces. Songs brought to everyone's attention because they ended up in the jukeboxes of the time. For example, I remember "Regina al Troubadour", "Concerto Grosso n.2" and "Non mi rompete". But the masterpieces remain "Impressioni di settembre" and "Amico di ieri" even because they were played on every guitar at that time.

It's not dark for an Italian listener, but that kind of melancholy that is pleasant, not depressing. It's the story of someone who loses the perceiving of the self in the landscape, feeling part of it.

Fun fact about the drummer Franz di Cioccio: when Led Zeppelin have lost the great Bonzo, Franz has been canditated for substitution. He finally refused, he wanted to be remembered as an active PFM member, and not as Bonzo's substitute.

    • @MissParisina
      @MissParisina 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

You know, Lorenzo, I'm not so convinced of what Franz boast about, he's a very good drummer but a little bit of a braggart. As a Led Zeppelin fan, I know they decided to stop playing out of respect for their friend John Bonham, so, at least him, was never auditioned. Anyway, Impressioni di settembre, is one of my favourite italian songs and I don't love italian music that much, despite being an italian girrrrl! 🤟🤟🤟

Poi hanno optato per il figlio che, a dirla tutta, si arrangia ma non ha nulla a che vedere con il padre, forse era meglio Di Cioccio. 😅😅😅

    • @walterF205
      @walterF205 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

This memory comes directly from the voice of Franz Di Cioccio, on the consideration and esteem he received from people of the caliber of Led Zeppelin: he stated"...It went like this: while we were on tour, many years ago, an article came out in an English newspaper that spoke very well of me, where my style was approached to that of John Bonham: whoever wrote it found similarities especially in the use of case, although I see in me a sort of more 'Latin' Bonham. The fact is that one night Armando Gallo calls me from Los Angeles [journalist and photographer who in '74 served as the press office at PFM for the first tour in the USA] telling me that Led Zeppelin had asked him about me. Let me be clear, there was no audition. I've never met Led Zeppelin: I know that there are different versions of this story, but that's how it went. I don't even remember if Bonham was still alive or not. I think they just wanted to make sure they could track me down. I was very happy, for me it was a great satisfaction, but it is clear that I had my band, I was not interested in embarking on other projects"

    English translation
    How many dew drops
surround meI search for the sun, but
    it’s not here
    the countryside still
    slumbers, maybe not,
    It’s awake,
    it watches me,
    I don’t know.
    Already the smell of
    earth, the smell of wheat
    rise up towards me
and the life in my chest
    beats slowly,
    I breathe the mist,
    thinking of you.
    How green everything is
    around me,
    even further
    looking almost like a sea
    of grass
    and my thoughts lightly
fly away…I’m almost afraid to loose it…
    A horse stretches his
    neck towards the pasture
    He stands still, like me
    I take a step,
    he sees me,
    already runs away
    I breathe the mist,
    thinking of you
No, what I now am, I do
    not know
    I am a man, a man in
    search of himself
No, what I now am, I do
    not know
    I am alone, just the
    sound of my step;
    and meanwhile the sun
    filtering through the fog already
    the day as always will
    be.

Mad Ang, you have now entered a dangerous field. These Italian progressive rock groups are made up of musicians with 6 to 10 years of classical studies at music conservatories (Italian exclusive music schools where it's hard to get in and where you learn music sight-reading, an instrument and composition). By classical studies I mean stuff like Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, Vivaldi, Paganini, Verdi, Puccini, etc. Now the conservatories also have classes in Jazz, contemporary and popular music.
Groups such as PFM (Premiata Forneria Marconi), New Trolls, Orme, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Area, to name just the most famous, are part of this family of musicians.
Listening to their music and watching them play, you immediately understand the difference in technique and skill between them and those who are in the charts today.

He received the first fretless bass (a stingray) directly from the hands of Mr Leo Fender in '76. Just to remark how valuable he is. Look for some gig and enjoy

PFM was an Italian progressive rock band, perhaps the most important Italian band, they also had some success in the USA, their concert in Central Park in NY remained famous, there were 220,000 people, and a year-long tour with Peter Frampton.
In the USA they are still considered at the level of Genesis, King Crimson and Gentle Giant.

PFM is the best Italy had to offer simply because of their melodies. Their newest release that just came out Oct 2021 shows they are still the greatest. In the last 30 I have never enjoyed a new release from a classic artist like Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, ELO etc but the new PFM album is their best yet. My first PFM album was “Photos of Ghosts” from 1973 released on ELP’s Manticore label.

The studio version is amazing as well. Also, listen to "E' festa" by them. Another thing I would suggest to listen to is "Concerto Grosso" by New Trolls. I am going to give you the names of other Italian progressive rock bands from the '70s which, in my opinion, are worth listening to: Le Orme, Osanna, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Area, Goblin (especially Profondo Rosso, which is the main theme of the horror film of the same name). Your reactions are the best, and I believe it is great that you are open to experiencing music from other countries. Kudos to you! 🤍

Leggo che lei sottoliea a questo youtuber, che non sa nemmeno chi sia la PFM,
      ....of course Mussida!

you should try the version of Patti Smith with the italian band MArlene Kuntz. PFM entered the US charts twice with their english language albums in the seventies. We also have to say that in present times they are not influential and stopped selling records many years ago. They only make concerts.
