Well this footage of the classic Swiss railcars is already quite valuable historically, since they are modernizing the rolling stock in Rio and getting new trains. Awesome landscape scenery too!

Awesome! Since October 2019, the Trem do Corcovado have new trains made in Switzerland by Stadler. The trains of the video were made in 1979 by SLM in Switzerland.
Now THAT’S a trip I’d like to make. Thanks for posting an excellent video.🐨🇦🇺

Beautiful video of a truly beautiful rack railway. Forget Cristo Redentor, just the trip up is worth it. Rack railways are very rare in the world, and this is too big a mountain to easily use a funicular so it was the only choice. The switches alone are worth seeing - rack railway switches are amazingly complex.
I love seeing the cog railway! I would like to hike up the route someday and watch the trains pass by!

We ran out of time, so we didn't get to go up! We really wanted to ride the Teleférico do Alemão, until we found it was closed! I rode that 8 years ago and loved it. I wanted to ride it this time and make a video, but too bad. I know its in a favela and not very safe.

From the train station, there are stairs and escalators to take you to the statue. I think there are also elevators for wheelchair access.

How safe is it to take the tram and be near the open sides?
Sometimes the train brushes against branches and leaves so you have to be a bit careful, but the ride is safe. The windows aren’t that big.

The middle rail is the COG rail. It is a rail with teeth in it that the train uses to climb the steep grade. The middle trail is not electrified.
