I hope this game gets tons of free DLC for more characters, boards, minigames, modes, items, etc. This can be a game that lasts the Switch's entire lifespan.
They'd have to implement the hotel mechanic, but it'd still be fun ^^ Personally, I'd prefer a MP2 map (mainly cause of nostalgia), but MP8 had some good ones too (the King Boo map was really fun!)
MP8 was my childhood. Big boos haunt, koopa's tycoon, the train board, all would be awesome as DLC. Maybe have DLC for every old mario party, with minigames and maps from each game.
MP2 was my childhood, but I played lots of 8 too and loved it! I don't remember a lot of the Gamecube ones, but I remember having lots of fun with them too. DS was nice too. I should try 1 and 3 someday, since I never actually played them...

Other than the map being really small this looks great, hoping other maps are bigger with more vertical design like the many beautiful boards of the past. In fact it would be soooo awesome if they brought back many of the old boards to this game just like the new smash is brining back so many old stages.
That was my first thought was "wow, this map looks pretty small?" However, it would also encourage a more wild playstyle with lots of stars being acquired quickly!
it looks small but remember, the dice block is now only 1-6 so you aren't going to be moving very far so the smaller map I feel is more justified, but it could stand to be a bit bigger but only by like an extra 10 spaces or so otherwise it would just take forever to get anywhere.

ye I loved the orbs, they played a huge role and I enjoyed them a lot especially the fact they are free to use unlike party 5, and which ever orb you placed was your own and can get a bonus on landing on it

So glad for this style of MP again, though it does worry me that this map is kind of small by MP status, that and the normal dice block only goes to 6 instead of ten, but their only minor worries.
Wouldn't the dice block only going up to 6 make more sense given the smaller boards? If you could roll up to 10, I feel like you'd be moving too quickly across the board. In other words, I think the dice were scaled back to compliment the smaller board sizes. Definitely agree that the boards seem a bit small though.
I actually feel like the only reason they changed the dice to be going up to 6 was to be "more realistic". If a dice block looks like it has 6 sides, it has 6 sides. I know this is a stupid explanation, but I still feel like this is what they went with when designing Mario Party 9. And I have one argument for this: there's a certain event on the first MP9 board where you get to throw a dice that goes up to 10, and they actually made a completly new model for that dice, so that it looks like a d10 dice instead of a d6 dice. So yeah. I feel like they just don't want dice blocks to act inconsistant from how they look anymore.

There are Bad luck and good luck spaces in the games which is close enough. Also Kamek does appear in this game as the Villain who messes with other players like Bowser in the previous games.

This Mario Party is finally returning to it's roots. In 1999 and the 2000's, Mario Party's board games were so much fun. I hated the idea of a car running with four players in the 2010's versions, except for this one!
Fans got tired of the same old formula, so Nintendo gave us Mario Party 9 which people reacted negatively. I personally am happy that the old grab coins and buy stars formual is returning, however, I loved the new car mechanic.
Oh my gosh! The boards are back, and being in control of where you go rather than lumped with everyone. :D They even are using the motion controls. This looks like the best Mario Party in recent years.
I don’t know if it's just because the board has a rock theme, but I think it's boring how all of the tiles are placed in blocks. For example, in Mario Party DS most of the tiles were integrated into the elements of the board (leaves, pots, etc.) and personally, I think that makes the experience much more interesting. However, I don’t know if it’s just the design of this board or if it will be the same for all of the other boards. Still, everything else in the game looks great. Edit: a comma was needed.
The dice block concept is cool, but it should really be optional... I would really enjoy the option of having a separate game mode for normal dice blocks
It probably is optional. I imagine there will be a "classic" mode that will remove the new dice block and companion mechanics. Maybe not but with all the games that they've made for the switch they seem to be trying to make sure to make the fans happy e.g. Smash having every character, Odyssey being more like 64, Tennis aces having a simple rules mode etc.
I mean, it's not like you have to use them. If you don't like them then just make it a rule for yourself and the people you play with that character rolls are off limits. Only real issue would be playing against AI in that case.
I need this. All the memories with my friends...can't even describe. Also...the dice block thing: *amazing* , now you have more strategy when moving, there's RNG ofc but more strategy.
Also, the Lucky Spaces are no longer blue with a yellow exclamation point, instead they are green and have a 4 leaf clover on them. And as you know, in Scotland, a four-leaf clover symbolizes good luck.

So glad for this style of MP again, though it does worry me that this map is kind of small by MP status, that and the normal dice block only goes to 6 instead of ten, but their only minor worries.
Wouldn't the dice block only going up to 6 make more sense given the smaller boards? If you could roll up to 10, I feel like you'd be moving too quickly across the board. In other words, I think the dice were scaled back to compliment the smaller board sizes. Definitely agree that the boards seem a bit small though.
I actually feel like the only reason they changed the dice to be going up to 6 was to be "more realistic". If a dice block looks like it has 6 sides, it has 6 sides.
I know this is a stupid explanation, but I still feel like this is what they went with when designing Mario Party 9.
And I have one argument for this: there's a certain event on the first MP9 board where you get to throw a dice that goes up to 10, and they actually made a completly new model for that dice, so that it looks like a d10 dice instead of a d6 dice.
So yeah. I feel like they just don't want dice blocks to act inconsistant from how they look anymore.
wariolandgoldpiramid I can agree with that, but I still think the boards for this game were designed with that realistic 1-6 dice block in mind, meaning that changing back to 1-10 for this game given how far it is in development wouldn't make sense.

The HUD and Menus all look phantastic. The transparent scoreboard suits the game really well.

Could replace with bowser jr/koopa kids/kamek for bowser themed spots, and cranky kong for DK themed spots.
I love the idea of playing as Bowser, but I will definitely miss Bowser spaces. He was always so intimidating, especially in the N64.
Also to add Mr Resetti or Tom Nook for any eventual Animal Crossing-themed boards.
There are Bad luck and good luck spaces in the games which is close enough. Also Kamek does appear in this game as the Villain who messes with other players like Bowser in the previous games.

This Mario Party is finally returning to it's roots. In 1999 and the 2000's, Mario Party's board games were so much fun. I hated the idea of a car running with four players in the 2010's versions, except for this one!

Fans got tired of the same old formula, so Nintendo gave us Mario Party 9 which people reacted negatively. I personally am happy that the old grab coins and buy stars formual is returning, however, I loved the new car mechanic.

Oh my gosh! The boards are back, and being in control of where you go rather than lumped with everyone. :D They even are using the motion controls. This looks like the best Mario Party in recent years.

I don’t know if it's just because the board has a rock theme, but I think it's boring how all of the tiles are placed in blocks. For example, in Mario Party DS most of the tiles were integrated into the elements of the board (leaves, pots, etc.) and personally, I think that makes the experience much more interesting. However, I don’t know if it’s just the design of this board or if it will be the same for all of the other boards. Still, everything else in the game looks great.

I wonder if they plan on releasing an ability to build your own board in the future. Would explain why it's all tiles, for consistency.
I think the blocks will be for the Star Rush mode since you can also play the way Star Rush did.

The dice block concept is cool, but it should really be optional... I would really enjoy the option of having a separate game mode for normal dice blocks

It probably is optional. I imagine there will be a "classic" mode that will remove the new dice block and companion mechanics.
Maybe not but with all the games that they've made for the switch they seem to be trying to make sure to make the fans happy e.g. Smash having every character, Odyssey being more like 64, Tennis aces having a simple rules mode etc.
I mean, it's not like you have to use them. If you don't like them then just make it a rule for yourself and the people you play with that character rolls are off limits. Only real issue would be playing against AI in that case.

Since Boo is playable in this game, Lakitu is kind of the boards thief for hire for anyone who reaches his space.
Also, the Lucky Spaces are no longer blue with a yellow exclamation point, instead they are green and have a 4 leaf clover on them. And as you know, in Scotland, a four-leaf clover symbolizes good luck.
