  • Summer is starting to kick in and the water temperature is up. That brings the filter bacteria back to life and pond keepers can start to take better care of the ponds water quality. With that in mind, I take a look at how the Mountain Tree Lotus Root Bacteria House Media is coping, bearing in mind the controversy that surrounds it. On top of that the large air stone is blocked and the bottom of the pond needs a good sweep.

Really nice pond. Absolutely love it. As you know, I am a big fan of mountain tree products. You are using the mountain tree as it's most efficient way. It won't crumble. People have had problem in showers but most likely because they have removed the cages around and not put the 3D spiral mat on the top.
Keep the video coming. Stay safe.

Thanks. I get the impression you use mountain tree lotus root submerged. If so how long have you used it and have you witnessed any sign of deterioration? 👍👍

@@Veterankoi hi, I have been using the large ones only for two months. But I had the smaller ones in a river bed for almost two years, so submerged, and no problems at all. They never deteriorated. I have never used them in a shower.

Hi alex as im sure you are aware some people have said that lotus root media has crumbled over time but these people have been using it inside bakki showers whereas you effectively have an upflow filter so i wouldn't think that it wouldn't degrade as quickly.
I'm team BHM but that is because it's proven to stand the test of time, so spending more initially is better than potentially gambling on something else and possibly having to replace it.
    Take care matey 👍🏼

I am hoping that the mountain tree lotus root lasts longer than those who have used it in a Bakki shower. I don’t know of anyone who has used it submerged over a prolonged period, so I suppose I will just have to trial it. Having said that, I know James (the koi whisperer) and Lau Magro ( French Koinection) use it submerged but As far as I an aware they have not used it over an extended period. The stuff does the job regarding water parameters, of that I am convinced. It’s the issue of how long it’s going to last. It was not particularly cheap, so I will be more than disappointed if does not last at least 4 or 5 years. Stay safe. 🤞

I will video him close as possible on the next video. It’s not without flaws, but it’s head is
Deep , deep red ( Maruten I think you call it) there is Slight sumi on the edge of Scales where the Beni is pronounced.👍
