    When I was in the Army stationed in Hawaii, my 2 Vietnamese buddies took me to Chinatown in Wiakiki and introduced to Bahn mi sandwiches. I couldn't stop eating them. I had 4 in the restaurant and I got 4 to go... I felt like a damn Hobbit. I had breakfast and second breakfast and 11zees, and then lunch. That's how good them sammies are! This was back in 1989 too!!

      There are 2 types of pho: north pho and south pho, you should try each type when you go back to vietnam, they are different from each other, I think pho you have in america is south pho,sr for my bad english 👍

    Audrey, you are a caring person. The way you took care of your little sister was simply touching. I feel your deep love addressed to your sister. You are both so well educated! Your parents did a good job of raising you guys with manners. It was stunning to watch your sister eating Pho and Bún chả giò with chopsticks for the first time. She was pretty good! And plus, she did like nước mắm:). You guys should be born with a bit Vietnamese genes:).

    Wow.. Look at the prices on that menu.. 20 years ago a large bowl of pho in Little Saigon is $5-$6 and is now doubled. My salary hasn't gone up that much. How are we going to keep up with inflation. I don't even want to think about my college funds for my kids but you know what? Your videos make me forget all of the world problems and puts me in a more positive outlook on life.. Carry on with your great work, Audrey!

    If the broth is good, I spend a lot more time enjoying it before adding any of the herbs. My local Pho restaurant makes very good broth so I eat the broth by it's self while it's hot. I only add the herbs when I think the soup is starting to cool. Important tip: You can ask that the bean sprouts be blanched so they are slightly cooked instead of adding cold sprouts to your hot soup.

    • @AudreyNguyenVlogs
      @AudreyNguyenVlogs  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah some places I love the broth so much that I do the same thing. :)) In Vietnam usually. And I didn't know that about the sprouts. Thanks for the tip!

      John Doe you're absolutely right,most cooks frown upon adding hoisin or other ingredients to their broth,but everyone has different tastes. I only add Sriracha and herbs,you'd imagine the broth is perfectly seasoned after hours of simmering.

  • @Truongkl
    @Truongkl 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Oh wow, I recognize this place! I've been there. My grandparents, then my brother, use to live practically just around the corner.
    When you're around there again sometime, check out Veranda Market if you haven't already done so. It's also on Forest Ave. That place literally has just about everything I would buy out here in Orange County's Sài Gòn Nhỏ (Little Saigon) in California. I was impressed.

    • @AudreyNguyenVlogs
      @AudreyNguyenVlogs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    @cryptixXL 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I noticed Huy is holding a small black camera from the reflection. What model is it? And is it the one that you normally use when you film in front of the brick wall? Thank you.
    Have you visited Little Saigon in California? It's the mecca for Viet food in America. I moved back here after living in WA state just for the weather and the food!

    • @AudreyNguyenVlogs
      @AudreyNguyenVlogs  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the camera is the Sony A6000 which is what I use for all my videos. I want to get a vlogging camera since that one is kind of big and heavy to vlog but it's so expensive to buy a camera when I already have one that "works". The camera gives me really good video quality so I'm also afraid to buy something that I end up hating. lol
      I haven't been to the west coast yet but I'm dying to go and eat all the food there!!! And the weather must be incredible!

    • @cryptixXL
      @cryptixXL 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had a very nice memory with Phở. Whenever I eat phở, I usually put a lot of basils and corianders in my bowl.
    The hủ tiếu bò khò looks very tasty and personally, i always have bánh mì bò kho, not hủ tiếu or mì. And bún thịt nướng looks as if it lacked of some mỡ hành (scallion and oil garnish) , is it right?

    • @AudreyNguyenVlogs
      @AudreyNguyenVlogs  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ron! haha you're a food lover like me. :)) And yes, the scallion and oil garnish was missing, though I didn't know it goes on bun thit nuong, I thought it's for com tam. :D

    Glad she was open minded enough to try it and happy she liked the stuff she tried. I love bun thit nuong and would usually order that when everyone else orders pho. LOL. I'd dump the whole bowl of fish sauce and stir and eat away. I figure all the extra sauce just settles to the bottom anyway. LOL! Definitely get her to try banh mi and banh cuon and banh xeo at some point. I bet she'll like it all.

    Glad to see your sister enjoyed eating Viet food. I actually immigrated to the States a little bit 30 years ago. Not many Americans knew about Vietnamese food then. Surprised to see Viet food successfully have entered the American main stream. As a matter of fact, I have had Pho in all over cities in the U.S. and the world because I had spent over 25 years in the U.S. Marines and been stationed in many parts of the States and Asia and the Middle East. Since you're from Italian background, pretty sure you and your sister would like bánh mì. Have you intro Britney to bánh mì?

    As someone else mentioned below, we do not invite the older brothers and sisters to eat as we consider them on equal footing with us at the table. We just invite parents and older folks....if we're proper. Or just give a generic term like "everyone/all" instead of each individual elder if it's a large table full of people. We're probably considered rude/improper with our American ways now. LOL

    • @AudreyNguyenVlogs
      @AudreyNguyenVlogs  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      haha yeah, I guess it's just the way we do it at my husband's home. As I explained to the other person, when I'm in Vietnam I said, "chau mời bà ăn cơm, con mời bố mẹ ăn cơm, em mời anh chị ăn cơm" and then eat. It doesn't take too long and I actually like doing it because I feel closer to the family being respectful of their home culture.

    Are there any differences between the Vietnamese pho and the pho that's made in the US? What do you prefer?

    • @AudreyNguyenVlogs
      @AudreyNguyenVlogs  7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Hmmm well of course the best pho is in Vietnam. In the US sometimes the soup does not taste as flavorful and the noodles are too skinny. They don't get the correct banh pho and sometimes just use skinny noodles. But some places make it pretty good. I haven't tried any pho in California though, I heard the best Vietnamese food in the US is there in "Little Saigon".

    • @senaivimlo
      @senaivimlo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Audrey Nguyen I also heard about that😉 Because lots of Vietnamese are living there👍

    • @cathynguyen3348

      Like what Audrey has mentioned is pretty correct :)) From my experience of growing up in a Vietnamese family living outside of VN, our family has always been blessed to enjoy homemade pho made by my mum.. and often we actually prefer eating the dishes made at home than any restaurants, because of how extremely flavourful, richer quality/amounts and of course made with love haha :)) I also like most Vietnamese and asians have many relatives, that have restaurants of the cuisine itself (here in Australia) and they usually would still make it a tiny bit different from how they would make it at home for family, with a difference within the proportions and amounts of the dish (and sometimes it can be expeeeeensive). But oh the convenience! haha I have absolutely nothing against eating out, but just wanted to assure you that you can make those amazing dishes yourself as well! it just take a bit of time and effort... maybe a lot of effort. With practice and time you can surely “master” the art of making pho and the delicious flavourful broth. (wow I am so sorry for this super long “comment” but a round of applause for you, if you made it through to the end ❤️

    • @cathynguyen3348
      @cathynguyen3348 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +senaivi mlo h. yes, that’s also right. Because the parts of California like “Little Saigon” and San Fran. have a huge asian community including Vietnamese, Chinese etc. but also since back in the day when the Vietnamese migrated to the States, a large portion of ppl gathered to the state of California and forming what is now a big tight community of asian Americans. So they have some of the most authentic foods you can find in the U.S :))
