More examples of bad language: "ahead of its time. More relevant now than ever" You people keep repeating this dumb shit on Carlin videos and its just wrong. He was just as relevant then as he is now. it was as true then as it is now. And he was just on time. So stop it with the dumb, useless, wrong language. Try to be a little more creative than that.

    • @Farinhir
      @Farinhir 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@ASelfishIgnorantCitizen I disagree. In his book, "When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops," Carlin writes the following excerpt.
"Political correctness is America’s newest form of intolerance, and it is especially pernicious because it comes disguised as tolerance. It presents itself as fairness, yet attempts to restrict and control people’s language with strict codes and rigid rules. I’m not sure that’s the way to fight discrimination. I’m not sure silencing people or forcing them to alter their speech is the best method for solving problems that go much deeper than speech."
Carlin also had a pretty fun bit on C-Span back in 1999. I will look it up for you if I can find it.
      Here ya go.
      th-cam.com/video/OFn13J-btCI/w-d-xo.html

All I have to say about political correctness is “I will accept any rules that feel necessary to my freedom. I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.”- Robert a. Heinlein

      @rustattack1312 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Muck006 you know nothing about communism, I recommend getting the pdf why socailism by Albert einstein its a short read but touches on alot, for now here's the definition of communism "a stateless classless moneyless society past the predatory phase of human development" fascism isn't a phase of human development its an ideology that uses scapegoats by blaming women, immigrants, black people, gay people, the jews etc. While the elite run away with all the wealth and power we the people have worked for. Political correctness is 100% a facist point. but anyway all beings are created equal through the eyes of the earth, "The first man who, having enclosed a piece of ground, bethought himself of saying This is mine, and found people simple enough to believe him, was the real founder of civil society. From how many crimes, wars and murders, from how many horrors and misfortunes might not any one have saved mankind, by pulling up the stakes, or filling up the ditch, and crying to his fellows, "Beware of listening to this impostor; you are undone if you once forget that the fruits of the earth belong to us all, and the earth itself to nobody." - Jean-Jacques Rousseau “When the People
      Have the conscience
      That they are stronger
      Than their rulers,
There will no longer be tyrants.” -Ricardo Flores Magón
Now to address what you were referring to when you said "communism is authoritarian" I would say communism is inherently anti authoritarian, however individual communists, or even groups of self identified communists are far from uncorruptable. As albert einstein said "The achievement of
socialism requires the solution of some extremely
difficult socio-political problems: how is it possible, in
view of the far-reaching centralization of political and
economic power, to prevent bureaucracy from
becoming all-powerful and overweening? How can the
rights of the individual be protected and therewith a
democratic counterweight to the power of bureaucracy
      be assured?
Clarity about the aims and problems of socialism is of
greatest significance in our age of transition. Since,
under present circumstances, free and unhindered
discussion of these problems has come under a
      powerful taboo"

As for expressions that tick me off… most notably with violent or extortive cops, you hear them described as “a few bad apples” that aren’t representative of the whole department. It ticks me off because the full expression is “a few bad apples spoil the barrel”, which essentially means that they _are._
Also the use of “literally” followed by a clear exaggeration.

Carlin was the goat. I grew up with him since the 90s and was fortunate enough to catch some of his later tours. Although not everything he said is perfectly aged, most is timeless. Areas I diverge from Carlin's opinions are, for example, areas in psychology people traditionally thought things were either one thing or another, and we now understand many things are on a range. Some terms are more appropriate to that understanding. Carlin's overall premises are quite based, especially when it comes to never believing the gov. on face value - only believe things that are also confirmed by outside sources because everyone phrases things or distorts things to their favor and the gov's not some magical exception.

He started in the 50s. Mid 60s he tired of the old catskills pocano schicted. He went on the road for 4 yrs or so doing standup to crowds of younger people. His hippie dippie weatherman and sport reporter let him use his new found slant. He took his 7 dirty words skit to the supreme court in early 70s. He was never attacking the norm until he got the HBO chance in 78. That is when he was able to use his talent without the man supressing him. He crafted skits to match how we were progressing. Never used same old skits over and over.

I honestly just stumbled onto your channel while I was searching for scary sounds of WWII. You’re very brilliant and well spoken. Definitely a joy listening to you.
As to what you said about people getting soft over time; I think it has to do with how we live. It’s bad enough that we no longer have to do anything to survive. If we sit on the couch and drink some bottled water and eat some pre packaged food we will be fine. That wasn’t the case 100 years ago or even further back in time. You had to work for every little thing you did. You had to haul water from the creek and purify or boil it, you had to grow and hunt your own food and maintain the fire in the house. You had to watch over livestock and gather firewood. So many things people had to do to survive. On top of seriously grueling miserable jobs that paid hardly anything.
Mix that with culture and social norms today. People are afraid to be offended and they’re plainly afraid of the truth. Media and tik tok completely drives what they say and do. They have no care or knowledge of the past or even remotely how to survive if the power just didn’t come back on. Which is a very real possibility. Grid failures, natural disasters and war knock on our door daily. Just a matter of time before the door is kicked down by something.

Thanks for your thoughtful review. As for 1984, I tried. I know it is an important book, and still relevant all these years later. It’s a classic novel that I missed when I was young; that’s when you want to read it. I tried reading it a couple years ago (I’m 50 now) and it just depressed me to the point that I became unmotivated to continue. I think this is a symptom of age. With each passing year, I find that my tolerance for psychological discomfort gets weaker and weaker. I resist less, sweat less, and try harder to arrange it so I am comfortable. When I was young, I was full of spunk and now I’m just old. I reason that 1984 has been picked clean by now, and its genius is well explained by the many who have examined it in detail. I am satisfied to glean what I can from them (and you).

Great video! The thought of euphemisms being a major reason on why learning English is so difficult for non-native speakers is really interesting. I started learning English at a relatively young age, so I always took all the different euphemisms are inconsistent speaking patterns as just something natural, and never thought much about it.
It was only when I started teaching English to high-school and college students in my country did I start to realize how difficult learning it was for people who already have a good understanding of their mother language to learn a second one that's so much different grammar and vocab wise. Once they were already used to constructing sentences and using terms in a certain way, it's no easy task helping them turn that way of thinking around, especially going from the rigid and conformed structuring of Chinese to the more free-style-ish ways of modern American English.

More Carlin for sure. I love your reaction and your intelligent discourse of his style of comedy. He truly was a philosopher-poet (and genius in my mind). Case in point was his poem 'The Hair Piece' ("I'm aware some stare at my hair, in fact some really despair of my hair! They see hair down to there and go off in a tear. I say, 'No fair'..."). His book 'Brain Droppings' was genius! And others here in the comments have mention the depth and breadth of his work, but I must also recommend 'Religion is Bullshit', 'Welcome to My Job' and 'Shoot' which are all must hear bits as well any of his comedy albums of the 70's and 80's. Enjoy this deep rabbit hole! 🤔😏😁😆

  • @dmwalker24
    @dmwalker24 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Yes, I think your analysis is spot on. I've watched the erosion of meaning, particularly for American English speakers, for a couple decades now. Terms like 'liberal' have had their meaning inverted, twisted, and generalized to the point where it can hardly be said to mean anything at all. Ask for a definition of communism, and 50 people will give you 50 definitions. 48 of them will be incorrect, and about 30 of those will define the term's polar opposite. When people lack the language to speak accurately about concepts, they lose all grasp of the concepts as well. And it's only getting worse by the day.

I tell people a lot when I hear PTSD that they're wimps! Not because I'm considering them to be Less, but because I agree with Carlin, Shell Shock is a direct saying and those people have NOT gone through Shell Shock! You might have to explain it to people, and I have, and I usually get "Wow!" reactions, but that's what Shell Shock SHOULD get! I've heard lazy people talking about how they have PTSD...and I've said, "Yeah, Because You're Lazy!! Here are the origins of it.." and then explain. Some times it's just easier to say say, "NO! You don't have P.T.S.D. at all. You don't even know what it means!!!
I'm glad you got a good education from George about it.
I don't call it bathroom tissue. Any time, and I mean literally, anytime someone asks if I want some or to get some, for a cut or something...I'll say "Toilet paper!" I like original words for things. I agreed a lot with George. I also do use use "issue" when I'm talking about problems. Nor do I use issue when I'm referring to subjects.
I'm really enjoying watching you laugh at you get it and agree.
I don't like all of his profanity, that was a real turn-off after a bit (years ago). For such an intelligent guy, he was very profane.
Some years ago I was told by women I dated that I'm too much into critical thinking. I asked, "Does your brain hurt after our chats?" Several said "Yes." I said, "Well, you better match with a Christian then, or learn how to have better conversations and become more attentive to what's happening around you. Because I left Christianity a long time ago. I think intelligence + intuition aware are really sexy."
6:45 in... you laughed at his response. I always laugh at that one, too, it's so honest.
    I'd rather be ugly, too.
7:27 another great response to truth (about sperm).
Nice attempt at Zen balancing there. There isn't anything "bad" about letting out your full thoughts there.
I don't play the Age Game that so many play. I don't partake in the birthdays because they're focused on becoming old, and breaking bones. I'm focused on living and enjoying. Carlin did become bitter, and once in a while I enjoy finding these clips of people listening to him)..as I commented, I stopped listening to him later because of his grumpiness delivery. Age is a mindset. True, the body does change, people will Tattoos will look really funky later as their Tattoos sag and deform. I didn't buy into the Tribal stuff (Tattoos). I think George could have found much better ways to get his stuff across without all the profanity. I'm not without it but I rarely use it.
"What, just me?" - No! Grin.
I don't use euphemisms nor metaphors very much. In part, because of Carlin, and Church, and others, I chose to do a very deep dive into human speech patterns and because very aware of being influenced or not. Euphemisms are very common in pop culture music, which is why I don't enjoy pop music much at all. Rush is my favorite band. When you become very aware of how you speak, and how you reply to other people, you notice how Self-Aware you are. Which is really in alignment with your soul.
When people stop "thinking" for themselves, many things become ineffable; and Nothing is.
    Yeeess...it "makes sense". Wink.
So, you Shared the Book title in the Description below rather than Dropping the Book Title on someone or the ground?
    Wink!
Most nonsensical euphemisms? Waaaaay too many for me to narrow down to 5 or 1. It's really cool to listen to an intelligent black woman. A not "Woman of Color", but black woman. To me it's: "She's Black, call her black!! I'm white, c'mon, it's not a racist thing...that's what we are and it's cool!" My black friends are also not cool with "Woman of Color".. We're all "Of Color" if we think about it. Duh.
