    Beautiful little fish - the do look like they are Peruvians - if/when you get true altums they take a lot longer to mature - up to three years. Looking forward to following your progress.

    Aw man, living the dream! I’ve really thought about renting a space and getting a ton of tanks and nice fish to breed but there just isn’t really a market in my area and I’m hesitant about selling online

    • @KeepingFishSimple
      @KeepingFishSimple  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you should give it a try! Instead of sending around to individual customers, try and sell to some wholesalers. That way you can pay for the best shipping because you’ll be sending lots more fish in one go. And instead of sending tons of packages a week, you’ll send maybe one or two.

      Those are Scalares, as easy to breed as typical domestic Angels. Very few people in the US have ever unlocked the key to breeding Altums. I made a nice living at one time raising hundreds of thousands of Angels, and to a lesser degree Discus. Never had them spawn despite trying everything I knew or hoped would inspire them to spawn.

    I want to add some angels with my cardinal and Rummynose tetra’s. Now i have a question. How do i avoid that they eat them? (I have a tank of 125 gallon) and how many should i add?

    • @savannahroberts426
      @savannahroberts426 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If a fish will fit in another fishes mouth the fish will eat it.

    • @savannahroberts426
      @savannahroberts426 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could keep young angels in and hopefully when they grow to their full size they will be "friendly" together. If your cardinals and rummy nose are full size there isn't alot of danger to your tetras.

    • @SP-qs4yh
      @SP-qs4yh 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Runny nose tetras and cardinals are pretty dumb they don’t avoid the predator when it comes to putting them with angels.

    No Altums, they are scalare. I kept and still keep natural forms of scalare. I breed rio nanay (peru altums) myself right now. I'm pretty sure this is not an Altum. I think he has got to change the title of the upload... It's sold as a Peruvian Altum because the higher body shape, mouth shape ("saddle mouth"), just like Altums have, but less pronounced. So in fact this is a Peruvian Scalare and not a (venezuelean or brasilian) Altum. The difference is that altums still have a higher body, thin bright (almost white) lines near both sides of the black lines. Even when they are young you see the difference or potential... So there are still enough charasteristics indicating this is a scalare in my eyes (though never sure !!) I guess on scalare rio nanay, manacapuru, or maybe even santa isabel. But still a beautiful natural form and easier to breed specie then Altum . 1:50 : the angel (top middle) has a little kink (i don't know the exact english word) on top of his/her head. It's a typical thing in afterbreed pterophillum. I see it in a few % of my rio nanay young as well. i cull them. The rounded dorsal fin is typical for scalare rio nanay, but as well for Altum Rio Atapabo, so that does not determine anything. Check beautiful video's of Simon Forkel on youtube, when you wanne see interesting uploads about natural scalare and altums. He's a master breeder of bought of them in germany. he wants to change his scalare tanks into all altums breeders and growup tanks. He knows his stuff.

    You can get Altum's in Australia, but they fetch over $500 each for them. The ones you have are not Altums, but they are a perfect breeding project, Trust me, if you do have the cash to get real Altums and manage to breed them, your customers wouldn't want to be paying the high price tag anyway, Altums in Australia are for Angel enthusiast's due to their price and difficulty to breed

    Yes these as the so called Peruvian Altums which are, as previously mentioned, P scalare from the Rio Nanay. The problem is many LFS think they are just common silver Angels as they don’t develop their distinctive body spots until they are nearing maturity…

    I have a question does any one know anything about breeding white cloud minnows.
    And my baby guppies are like 7 week old and they all look like females do you know why
    Edit: love the videos new fish room vids coming soon?

    • @ohrats731
      @ohrats731 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bred white clouds. What’s your question? As for the guppies, sometimes the male traits don’t show for a while. Or if you had a small spawn it is possible to get a disproportionate male/female ration

    • @braydenstrock951
      @braydenstrock951 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lily A. My question is what it a good set up for them to breed and how do I know the difference between male and female because no video helps at all. I have them in 10 gallon tank with java moss but the 10 I have don’t seem to breed. Do I have to feed them something? Set the mood? I’m confused. Thanks

    • @ohrats731
      @ohrats731 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brayden Strock Java moss is good! They might like some floating plants too. Hornwort, guppy grass, frogbit, stuff like that. If they’re still young they might not be breeding yet and it might be hard to tell, but the females will have a rounder shape around the stomach. Males will be more streamlined. I breed mine in a tub pond so they get their own live food. You could try frozen baby brine shrimp or Repashy spawn and grow. The fry are incredibly small. Think eyelash with two little sparkles. If you want the best yield in a tank, I suggest moving the adults when you see eggs. They prefer cooler water and a strong flow if you can provide it

    • @braydenstrock951
      @braydenstrock951 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! One more thing is the males have been trying to get the females to go in the moss and flaring there fins. The problem is there is one female they can breed with the rest of the females I can see are to young. Is that a problem

    They are unlikely to be altums, Chris Englezhou is the person to ask on altum angels though, he has caught them in the wild and recorded a lot about them. I would doubt they are, I have frequently seen angels coming from Czech listed as altums and they certainly aren't. Altums sell a lot better it seems. Their likely Peruvian Pterophyllum sclare or from memory the angelfish of the Rio Negro are also similar. Their high deep bodied fish that can look similar to P. altum. I have a few P. sclare at work directly imported the Rio Nannay in Peru and often those less versed in wild Pterophyllum say their P. altum when their very clearly not.

    I guess by now you have figured that they aren't Altums, they are indeed Peruvian Scalares. They are often referred to as False Altums, do a Google search. I raised and sold probably 100 thousand or more of these to a wholesaler in the early eighties. I hate to sound like a jerk, keep an eye on them, your particular fish have horrible dorsal fins for a Peruvian Scalare. They may have just been reared in a tank too small as fry without enough water changes and the fins are burnt. But, the fins should be much longer and pointed. Not at all blunt like yours. You would be doing a disservice to the Angelfish community if their fry have bad fins and you don't cull every last one of them. The last thing the hobby needs is more crappy angelfish out there.
