      @@oscaralvarado2947 This mod does not at all make it full auto. Just allows the bolt to be released by pulling it back rather than unlocking it from underneath the rifle.

    Yes. I wish I had known before I bought one!
    There are other videos out there showing this being done but I wanted to try out my camera and show some light machining being done. I only just got the Dremel. It's great. Highly recommended.

      I've done it with a small flat file in a pinch but the Dremel makes it a simple job. Thanks for posting.

    The whole purpose is to allow the bolt to move forward without touching the bolt release. It does not make it full auto. Also this must be something that was implemented after 1990 because I don't even have a bolt release on my 10/22. I'm not sure why they started producing the rifle with it, as it doesn't seem like much of a safety benefit but only something to get in the way.

    • @RobWhittlestone
      @RobWhittlestone  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes! Your phrase "get in the way" is very apt! It's hard to use when it has not been modified - you have to know EXACTLY how to move it, to release the bolt. It's a pain in the @$$, hahaha! That's why I converted to auto-release. Pull the bolt back, release it! Done! No more fiddling under the rifle forward of the trigger guard.
      All the best, Rob

    How do you make fully auto

    • @RobWhittlestone
      @RobWhittlestone  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@brettgofgosky1911 Hi Brett - it's just the bolt release that is automatic - the rifle does not become fully auto or "select fire" at all, it stays semi-automatic. That means you can lock the bolt back, then pull it back to release it and it will slam forward. I hope this helps! Thank you for watching and commenting! All the best, Rob in Switzerland. PS. Any fully auto firearm ("select fire") needs a special permit in most countries I know. It's important to stay within the law of your state and country and get the required permit before if possible.

    I did this mod my 10/22 works great if you could come up with one that holds the bolt open on last shot it would be great

    • @RobWhittlestone
      @RobWhittlestone  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great! I'm glad it worked for you! I think holding the bolt open when magazine empty usually relies on bolt interaction with the magazine. The regular Ruger one, being a rotary magazine, won't ever be able to do this and I suspect that the BX-25 probably isn't designed to do this as it is designed to behave like the rotary mag. I agree it would be a great addition though! Many thanks for viewing and commenting! All the best, Rob

    Is this a dangerous operation? Can something go wrong or is it "high tolerance/forgiving" when going on with the Dremel, taking away material?
    When opening the bolt after such modification, how does that work? Will it just stay open after pulled back, or do you use the lever as before to have it stay in open position?

    • @RobWhittlestone
      @RobWhittlestone  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      This is very easy and low risk. The shape you make is very forgiving, as you can see from the various commercial versions available. You have to press the lever up to hold the bolt back, but then pulling the bolt back is enough to make the lever fall and the bolt will fly foward. This is perhaps the most popular modification to a 10/22 and it is very easy! I hope this was helpful! All the best, Rob

    What does this do?

    • @RobWhittlestone
      @RobWhittlestone  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It allows you to just pull back on the charging handle and let it fly forward to release the bolt. As standard, you have to fiddle around under the rifle between the trigger group and magazine (if my memory serves me correctly) to push in a little tab that is difficult to find and works unreliably in order to release the bolt. This saves all that fiddling. Pull back on charging handle, release, bolt flies forward. Done. It's a perfectly legal modification that most rifles already have.
      It has NOTHING to do with "full auto" and can't make that work.
      Thank you for asking. There is often confusion about what this does. I hope I was able to explain it clearly for you. Many thanks for viewing and commenting! All the best, Rob

      It doesn't have to be round, VQ probably just designed their's that way, there are several others I've seen in the aftermarket that are flat just like he did his. So long as it doesn't have any functional difference (which I doubt it does seeing as people have been doing this forever now) then it shouldn't really matter.
