I have been a farmer's supporter. But for the last 2 years, my thoughts have changed. They create ruckus. Mohali could have been a huge industry magnet. State and religion should have separation. In a secular democracy, State should take effective measures to curtail overbearing by a particular religious group. What is a “natural industry”? Agrarian economy depends on pesticide produced by industry and subsidies from industries through Centre and State Govts. If you drive away all the industry, who will subsidise your agri produce? If subsidies stop, agrarian economy in Punjab would crumble the next day.

The title is misleading. From this conversation what I understood is that the farmers agitation has a minor role as the hindrance to the industrial growth of Punjab. Government policies, Centre -State govt relationships, lack of central governments support, subsidies., political will power, closure of the Pakistan border, the GST regime are the major factors.
Fundamentally, in institutional school of economics pov, there needs to be change in norms or cultural attitudes (informal institutions) for economic change.

If you want all Punjabis to support your cause then please bring in rationalisation of land holdings in Punjab by giving some land to all the households who have no agricultural land to make the end meet. Farming is important, and so is the industry. Example - Infosys has a huge office in Mohali. My friends, all Punjabis, work there. Now, if agitations happen every day, Infosys will shift its office. So, will the Punjabis to NCR, South. Who will contribute to the economy in such a case.

This BS about industry is laughable. First of all it does is only create cheap labour jobs, how does that help. Anyways what is stopping them? Punjab needs natural industries especially agrarian industries and moreover open borders and rights to trade openly what it produces naturally. It is purposefully being suffocated by central policies and being drained of its natural resources.
What is a “natural industry”? Agrarian economy depends on pesticide produced by industry and subsidies from industries through Centre and State Govts. If you drive away all the industry, who will subsidise your agri produce? If subsidies stop, agrarian economy in Punjab would crumble the next day.
