    Nice review I know it's 8 months old now but just have to confirm what other comments below are saying, the Alucab tents are second to none in my opinion. I have the 3.1 for a year now with zero issues in high wind, rain and snow. The Gen 3R looks really cool also with new features like a backrest and table inside. Love Alucab for their continued innovations!

      I just finished up Expo West, I’ll have a video up from the Alucab booth in a few days. Some exciting updates on their products!

    I got the same 3.0 tent, love mine as well. I bought the new AluCab collapsible ladder, it’s worth buying for the angled steps alone. No more hurt feet when wearing socks going up and down.

      @IndependenceOverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah Andre I just saw them in person and those ladders do look really nice compared to what I have. I wish it was out before I bought the one I have now.

    Amazing review man. The 3R is in my future

      @IndependenceOverland  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks man! Yeah I’ve considered upgrading to it, but I just resealed the top of mine (not that it was leaking, just doing maintenance) but after talking with OK4WD I can order the 3R fabric for like and upgrade it to having the new window style. So I think I’ll just do that.
      I am an Alucab fanboi through and through 😂

      @@IndependenceOverland Heck yeah! Another + for Alucab. Very cool you can upgrade like that.
      Side note, love your stuff man. Been really taking a deep dive into your content lately. I don't really watch many other influencers in the space. You're quickly becoming one of my favorites out there. You're super genuine and have great content and just seem like a good dude. I think we see eye to eye on a lot of things. Holler next time you're in the Ozarks! Would love to link up.

      P.S. I just installed those D-Line brakes after linking up with Delon at the MOORE expo. World of difference. Your video sold me on those too!

      @@ArkansasOffroad Me and Matt from TAV were talking about you quite a bit this weekend and your whole Dirtbox setup! I appreciate your support man! You know better than I do that its quite a grind with a full time gig. I am going to shoot you a message on IG in regards to an Ozark visit. And on the Powerbrakes, Delon is the man! Such a good guy! And the product truly is top notch stuff! Again, thank you for the support man, especially from other creators it means a lot! 🙏

    Honest review I have had my 3.1 for two years now and love it. I would buy it again in a heartbeat as well. There is no substitute for quality, I looked at tons of them and this was and still is the best quality I could find.

      I’m glad you found it! Mine has been an awesome tent! Watch my Hest mattress video. I’m telling you, it takes this tent up to another level. It’s an expensive mattress, but the insulation the tent gains and the comfort is absolutely incredible.

    Most of the South Africa and Australia products for Overland are the best. These 2 countries have a lot of expertise . I just bought Rtt and Awning from South Africa cie ... Quick Picth.... this cie look like Alu-Cab, and I know Alu-Cab are great cie. My Tacoma has an Alu-Cab Explorer canopy on the bed, with 3 cupboards, and there are great.

    When I found your channel I was surprised to find that my set-up is almost identical. Love the tent. I have the Freedom Cycle (?) propane tank holder but, haven't installed. What do you think of yours? Love your content.

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Jim I appreciate it man! The Fj has been a solid truck! Refined Cycle is the company, and the propane bracket is awesome! I did drill the hole in the door for the install. It’s been very solid. Using it in combination with the Expedition One rear bumper required a wheel spacer, because the tire actually moves a bit with their “smooth motion” system. Not sure I could make a 35” tire work correctly, something to consider. But having the bottle mounted and ready to use instantly is more of a convenience that I realized it would be. I think it’s perfect for the Fj rear door.

    I was wondering how the front holds up with chips from rocks, grit, gravel etc that’s in the air as we drive. Thanks 😊

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s why I opted for aluminum over fiberglass, though It’s high enough that it doesn’t really get rock chips. Other than being a bug collection device it’s had really no wear up there.

  • @christurner68

    How did you go with over loading the loads capacity of the FJ roof? Or that doesn’t matter in the US?

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Fj is rated for 150lbs but that’s with the OEM roof rack. It’s like payload, the published numbers are set in stone but a good suspension will technically allow it to handle more.

  • @MountainOffroad4x4
    @MountainOffroad4x4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hey T, do you usually leave the windows/doors open in the tent when opening and closing it to alleviate suction whilst allowing the struts to remain strong and open it more easily?

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes sir, rear window stays open, side windows are closed.having the side windows closed seems to help everything collapse easier

  • @clintbiesinger1243
    @clintbiesinger1243 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Specifically with wind, how high of wind speed have you stayed in your tent? Also, rain, how does it do? And, what are your thoughts, if any about this versus James Baroud and Camp King? Thanks.

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As far as rain, it’s never leaked a drop. It’s quite nice having the hard shell top because it’s not super noisy with every drop like a traditional tent fabric. You can still heat it, but it’s muffled enough that it helps you sleep rather than keeping you up (flip style tents are really noisy). It’s like having a real roof vs a tarp.
      I can’t compare to the other tents, since I haven’t used them. I believe JB has options for both pop up and wedge style, as the wedge style will always win in a wind test. On the way to Expo west a few nights ago, we had some really nasty winds in Utah. Not sure on how fast they were, but by far the worst gusts I’ve tried to sleep through. The tent was facing in the complete wrong direction for the wind and while we could tell it was shaking the entire truck, it was fine. I got down and move the truck to point the nose into the wind, and the wind blasts were almost unnoticeable after that. It does incredibly well.

    Got to ask you about your FJ. I believe its a 2007 or 2008 model? If so, have you had any issues with the rear differential that the 2007-2009s are noted for? Thoughts?

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ll link my walk around video. I never had an issue with the diff, but I follow the “slow as possible fast as necessary” rule. Being so heavy I was concerned with it breaking in the middle of nowhere, so I upgraded it to a Diamond axle which utilizes the 80 series differential which is a 9.5”. So if I break something now, I’m doing something really stupid (factory Fj diff in the 07-09is an 8”).

    Hello thank you for your great video. That’s a quiet heavy tent, I would like to ask you if you feel a deference in off road capabilities of your truck driving with or without this tent?
    Thanks in advance

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes absolutely, it does make the vehicle top heavy. With such a short wheel base climbing extreme vertical obstacles is challenging as the vehicle wans to roll backwards, and it is not as good at off camber trails with the weight. Good examples can be found in this video: th-cam.com/video/suiT3j5Ic8U/w-d-xo.html

      @@IndependenceOverland ohh yeah that’s really super modification but it’s really expensive and I have the landmark, the last one is produced the 2016, which is limited, maybe is better to keep this iconic car original and look this masterpiece as it came from the old Solihull factory. 🔨
      Nice to know your channel, really good job. Thanks a lot

  • @isma-eelariefdien3261

    you need to zip open at least one door so that it does not create an air pocket. It will close easier that way.

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always leave a window open, but it still doesn’t fold up quite right. It seems to hang up a little more when it’s hot out and the fabric is more pliable.

  • @leonihobin
    @leonihobin ปีที่แล้ว

    Would leaving a window open help close it so the air can escape?

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s what I do actually. The newer models have vents. The back window can let water in if it’s been raining from the awning part, and the side ones help the tent close up easier if they are zipped up.

    • @leonihobin
