WAR IN UKRAINE: "Local superiority of forces!" Retired general on the situation in Kharkiv!
Ukraine has reinforced its troops in the region of the strategically important city of Chassiv Yar in the eastern region of Donetsk. Units of the 24th Mechanized Brigade have been deployed "to strengthen the defence of the Chasiv Yar region", the brigade explained on Thursday evening. The situation in and around the city is "extremely difficult". Meanwhile, Moscow reported numerous Ukrainian drone attacks on Friday night.
"The enemy is constantly organizing massive frontal attacks," the Ukrainian army brigade continued. The Russian forces were also trying to "bypass the city from the north and south". The brigade now relocated to Chasiv Yar had previously been stationed near the city of Torezk, another frontline region in which the Russian armed forces have recently gained ground, according to army bloggers.
The capture of the frontline town of Chassiv Yar, which has been fiercely contested for weeks, would be a significant breakthrough for Moscow in the Donetsk region on its way towards the city of Kramatorsk. Donetsk has been the region with the most fighting for two years since the start of the war - but in May Russia launched a ground offensive in the neighboring region of Kharkiv to the northwest. The Ukrainian army is struggling to hold its own against the better-equipped Russian forces there.
