I experienced deep emotions my whole life and it simultaneously made my experience more beautiful and heartbreaking. I could see that everyone around me did not experience the world this same way. It wasn’t until I went through a really hard depression that made me realize that this is my experience on the world and I can’t and shouldn’t numb myself to feel less. So I embraced it and didn’t feel shame for experiencing the world this way. Sometimes I think it’s the shame that we add that makes it harder.

Sounds exactly like me. At least from how I read that.
I always experienced deep emotions my whole life, and was always deeply reflective and introspective.
But in the last 4 or so years I've just become significantly more resilient and better centred.
I consider this better. At least for me. It's better to be less emotional, and I feel more of a well centred man.
But at the same time, I have lost so much of the beauty of feeling like that.
I agree. It's beautiful. But it comes with heartbreak.
If God wants to take me back to that place of softer heart, I'll go there.
But hopefully this time around simultaneously along with the more mature experienced well centeredness that I have right now.

Taken as a whole, Peterson is saying the speaker has to first open himself up to it such that he may have the opportunity to diligently work to fortify himself and develop the strength to better withstand it. Peterson talks about this idea all the time: the voluntary and gradual encountering of the source of your suffering. He doesn’t say just jump straight to the dragon. Go step by step, forward into the abyss, voluntarily but carefully so that you can use all the learning/growth along the way to build yourself up to eventually “slay the dragon.” The hidden wisdom there is the idea that *that* which seemed like a dragon at the start of your journey won’t be by the end of your journey.

Jordan is the only person I've been able to truly trust (besides christ). Long story short, rough upbringing. Because of that upbringing, I've had no real direction moving in life. I've had to rely on what I see. When I started to feel things like conditional love when teen dating, I was blind sided. I was and have been devastated on multiple accounts. When I read and adapt his work and words into my life, it's changing everything and for the better.

Negativity will always be there, but rejecting it will just make u more susceptible to it. u have to love life and yourself with all the good and bad cuz that's who u are. u cant love 50% or 70% of you. gotta embrace all 100% of it. also, my second point, so many people walk around half dead w no purpose that its a blessing to be able to feel deeply, it means u are alive. @@TPRM1I believe that we can agree that the person whom asked the question is intelligent or self-aware enough to have at least _consider_ that the answer is "both". In which I imagine Dr. Peterson also thought that. I speculate that rather than plainly giving him an answer, he gave him a solution. Maybe you and I can agree that it's safe to assume that if someone is suffering, in which a fair portion of people whom come across Dr. Peterson are, that when someone asks "Is this thing about me good or bad?" even without suffering, people are usually more concerned with "bad", considering negativity bias. If you've dealt with suffering or have dealt with people whom are suffering, we are familar that we can't save someone whom cannot save themselves. My reiteration of the quote could be, "Whether is a good or bad, it's a part of who you are. If you're not going to change it, then take responsibility for it."

Based on what I have heard JP saying when he talks, I have a fair amount of respect for JP. I don't say that I necessarily agree 100% with everything he says, but he seems like a sensible, logical and rational person, who has good intentions.
So whenever someone are being critical about him, it sadly tells me a lot about that person: Either 1. they haven't actually evaluated JP themselves, but are simply repeating what others are saying (which is sadly a common mistake among humans), or 2. They are simply unable to grasp what it is he is saying, or what he is saying proves them wrong so they "have to be against him".
P.S. I actually have a personal bias against psychologists (I think there is a lot of bulls*** in psychology), but despite my personal bias, I still "have to" acknowledge that JP actually seems like a really decent guy, who presents very sensible advice. Some of the advice might be very simple, but that doesn't mean they don't need to be said or aren't valuable.

@@DanildFlamme definitely. A lot of it it's also that people want hot takes, clear cuts statements about anything. So any nuanced answer they take as either he's lying or he doesn't know what he talks about.
Like for example he has said having a long term relationship and having children is what's ideal for your psyche and giving meaning to your life (based on data and many obvious rational reasons)
But then lots of people start saying they don't agree because you don't need to have children to give your life meaning or that he's bigoted to think that way...
But he didn't say there's no other meaning or way of living and everyone should be the same just that the ideal is that which is based on the studies on that respect...so there's no argument or nothing to disagree with really is just they feel personally attacked because they don't fit that mold.
This is one example of many that I see people criticising him for stuff he hasn't really said (just they make up that meaning) or acting as if he wants to force people to be that way when he's only just saying lol and no one is forced to pay to watch him on youtube

    • @DanildFlamme
      @DanildFlamme 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@sakurasfish2115Yes. His more traditional view on the core-family unit, is definately one of the things, that makes people attack him.
But sadly that is because many people can't see beyond the limits of their own emotions (which is quite normal for humans).
But I think this is somewhat symptomatic of our time... many people confusing "truth" with "what we want to be true" as being the same thing. (You can probably read between the lines, what I am referring to).
Now, I do believe people should be free to do or believe what they want... As long as I am also free to believe what I want, including not partaking in other peoples delusions. (People should be free to have those delusions if they want, just don't force them on me too).

All of these are very fair and doesn't speak bad of trans people themselves but like the example I put, people can't have nuanced opinions, If you don't promote trans love, they automatically say you hate them.

I ask chatGPT about the second part of Dr Petersons answer and this what is came back with
The second part, "you take more of the thing that poisons you until you turn it into a tonic that girdles the world around you," might metaphorically imply transforming negative experiences or challenges into something positive and empowering. It suggests the idea of using adversity as a catalyst for personal growth or positive change, turning what might initially seem harmful into a source of strength or wisdom.

The genius of Jordan doesn't necessarily lurk around the creativity of the ideas he presents to the public.
Partly because most of the general so-called "life advice" ideas have been developed, so the pool is practically full in that regard to expand it creatively even if you are really smart to do so.
I think that the real genius of Jordan is the articulation and the esthetics of what he says. He is brilliant in that regard. You can listen to him for hours without boredom.
You see a really educated and verbally competent person using his mind in real time, trying to put the pieces together to give form to those kinds of thoughts. It's just amazing. It's like an artist in some way.

And so did every other man whose faced adversity, the adversary & self-destruction and refused to despair, refused to quit (but only after taking every pathway, door, trail, shortcut, and cursed forest to realize - THERES NO GOING BACK. And the only way out is through, so inure yourself to pain, misery and malice to steel yourself for the battle.

It's a blessing, because now you feel what God feels. We have to be willing to give God our hand as many would give it to their father as he lead them across a busy street the 1st time at 3 or 4 years old because that's the time we are now ready to grow to learn Trurh to be more than what we thought we were. To do nothing with the knowledge becomes the burden of the curse

That almost brought me to tears. But yeah, seeing it through is all there is I suppose.

The magnitude and eloquence of the question was matched with an equally deep and profound answer

He’s like the father I never had and I knew I never wanted to become my father so I went through life dealing with childhood trauma still have it. It’s something that never goes away but the more you talk about it the easier it becomes, and the less feelings attached, I love Jordan Peterson when I heard his podcast I was like off my seat staring at the TV like crazy. I can’t believe this guy talking like this. This is how I’ve been living for the last 32 years. My background is I was the 70s kid first grade. Already seen a psychologist on medication. My parents were terrible parents. They both cheated on each other but somehow because I acted out I was the problem. I never believed I had ADHD. I ran my whole life. You’re not label me with that nonsense parents divorce when I was 10 violence screaming, and yelling I witnessed stuff I shouldn’t have the next day. My mom left us three kids thank God she did we be dead by now so anyhow before I was the age 15 I was in four mental institutions/rehabs a group home for a year and then my last program when I was 19 because I drove myself right into the streets sleeping in my car all the walls I built to protect myself I end up destroying myself, it was the road to death or prison so I took ownership of my life at the age of 19. Been clean for 32 years. I build a family living by truth has led me to become a complete person. That’s awesome. All I have is gratitude for being alive this long and being able to achieve everything I always wanted was a family thank God I always knew he was with me. I was too messed up to see anything 52 today. I finally accepted. I do have ADHD that they’re talking about since I’ve managed to live by truth. I’ve worked through it without drugs without ADHD medication, I struggle but my heart always in the right place that’s what my kids understood, so as a team, our family, we work through everything together and everything has to start with honesty and truth. That way we can keep growing and getting better understanding each other with compassion and love.
