My teacher explained flats and sharps to me and the various keys (key of G, D, etc.) before I had to go on my summer break in a matter of a few minutes and it left me incredibly confused and a bit upset but in such a short film you explained this with ease and incredible clarity! I'm excited to start practicing some pieces I would have been unable to before!
Treble lines: Every Good Boy Does Fine, Treble spaces: FACE, Bass lines: Great Big Dogs Fight Animals, Bass spaces: All Cows Eat Grass This is how I was taught.
I am a beginner and I have been watching videos and reading on how to read music and your video by far was easiest for me to follow, so thank you so very much! I appreciate you taking the time to make this and upload it for people like me!
Hey guys! Thank you all so much for all the positive feedback and comments on this video! I greatly appreciate all your kind words. Seeing as how this video was so well received, I will continue to make more music lesson and educational videos in the future! :) For now, please check out my new channel (JJBartleyScience) for educational lessons on various topics in science and medicine. th-cam.com/channels/FPvnkCZbHfBvV8ApBBE0vA.html Happy new year everyone! :) JJ
It was pretty helpful. You seemed a bit nervous at the beginning, but then seemed to get a little more comfortable near the end. This is a good refresher course for former musicians coming back, or for new students. Well played sir. Well played.
I am 19 and haven't played since that time in elementary. Thank you for showing such nice video! I plan to prove that you don't need 30 years to be good-just heart and love for music!
My little sister recently asked me to teach her to read music. I'm a bad teacher so I was looking at this lesson to find a simple way to explain it. As soon as I saw you draw such an ADORABLE, perfect treble clef I CRIED and couldn't focus on the video. It was so perfect. I had to watch again. Thanks for the help! : )
In the beginning, one slight correction/possible addition if you like. The Trebble Cleff is actually a G cleff. The circle inside the body is supposed to engulf the G String. Acltually, this cleff is movable, but you never see it in a different position these days. The Bass Cleff is actually the F Cleff. It moves also, and you have that correctly positioned with the line between the two dots, but it should be more in the center of the two. I hope this helps... AJM
this is very helpful! I really appreciate it coming from someone who loves music and playing instruments and has no clue how to read note at all. I literally own a piano and a guitar and have no clue how to play them properly
I suggest you keep it up. You will only get better with time. This video was helpful to me as a refresher. I have been away from reading any sort of sheet music for approx. 25 years, so having previous experience, I found it very effective. Other than the small technical issues you warned about, the video is good. For those who didn't understand any of it, I would have to say that they still have a long way to go in their music education.
treble lines= Every Good Boy Does Fine (EGBDF) treble spaces=FACE bass lines=Good Boys Do Fine Always bass spaces= All Clowns Enjoy Giggles (ACEG) this is the way I learned it. hope it helps!
We obviously had a fifth grade teacher who didn't understand it all! I was taught Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge, & FACE, (I remember it to this day), but was NEVER taught the REST! OR WHY we needed to remember EGBDF & FACE! I'm 70, with no piano, but I'm learning things that will SURELY help me should I sit down to one! Years ago, (1993) I heard a melody in my heart. I took music lessons to learn where the notes were found! I bought a keyboard, played the song with background, taped it and mailed it to loved ones! It was to Celebrate 21 years loving JESUS..."Love You Lord!" But I don't have the keyboard anymore, & I STILL don't know piano! Never too late to keep learning! 💞 Thanks for your suggestion!
Should draw the Treble Clef with the center loop intersection on the G, or second line up... he drew it intersecting the B. He made a mistake as to the placement of the Bass Clef as well. Two dots should be centered in the first and second spaces down G & E respectively above and below F...line, Dot on the giant apostrophe part of the Base Clef should be on the first line down F. Not hard to draw correctly...! Daah..! Sorry if I'm too picky...
khyla cadorna hey there! If you want some extra practice, I have a video with flashcards to get you reading notes faster. The video is called “How to Read Sheet Music Faster” Best of luck in your piano learning! :)
You are a good teacher. I had started to take piano lessons several times but had to drop for some reason. Listening to you, now I am ready to study again. Thank you! Really appreciate your teaching us!
If you're serious regarding learning to play the piano, the primary belongings you can ought to do is place those negative thoughts behind and begin with associate degree open mind.
Thank you this has been really helpful. I took piano lessons from the time I was 6 till I was 12 but I always dismissed reading music by just playing by ear. I regret that and now I'm 15 trying to re teach myself and this was very helpful.
you have no idea how much this video is useful I have my Christmas exams coming up and when the teacher teaches me I really do not understand what ever he says he's always saying #flats and flats and I don't understand. and when he's explain the basics it's confusing at this video is so easy to understand thank you for it
I also learned the "traditional" way. With Do; Re; Mi; Fa; So; La; Ti; Do. And each one has its own letter. So...let's start: DO is C; RE is D; MI is E; FA is F; SO is G; LA is A; TI is B; DO is C. This is the octave. C D E F G A B C, in this order. Think about the alphabet: ABCDEFG - where C is DO. Hope I could help.
Yo soy Hueyapan ion get this cuz basically I'm a total novice at this and when others do it in class I feel totally left out.....i know all these letters are basically DO,'RE MI,FA,SO LA,TI,DO....right
We were given a daily recreation; Treble clef, lines: Every good boy does fine Treble clef, spaces: F-A-C-E Bass clef, lines: Good boys do fine always Bass clef, spaces: All cows eat grass.
hey guy, you are going some where with this lesson. you helped me a lot already. I will keep on watching your music lesson. This is a promise to you!!!!
Thank-you for the refresh, in band class i just pretended to read music and played it all by ear; i was always 1st chair😄 The only thing that's different in my thinking is the 'notes' i see as sounds and just never thought of them anyother way.
Bored while waiting in the barbershop for a chair to open up. I can't hear what you're saying, so I'll watch this again when I get home, and I'm sitting behind my Casio. Saving this.
The Treble Clef sign is too high by one line. It is commonly called the "G Clef", because the inner curl wraps around the "G" line. Likewise, the Bass Clef is often called the "F Clef", because the two dots are in the spaces above and below the F line. Study the Grand Staff on a piece of printed music and you'll see how these are drawn.
There is one thing I think is worth mentioning though. Sharps and Flats in a key signature always follow the same pattern. If you have one sharp in the key signature It will always be F#. If you have two, it will always be F# and C#. Three is F#, C# and G#. Four is F#, C#, G# and D#. Five is F#, C#, G#, D# and A#. Six is F#, C#, G#, D#, A# and E#. and Seven is F#, C#, G#, D#, A#, E# and B#. Same thing with flats too. If you have one flat it will always be Bb. If, you have two it will always be Bb and Eb. Three is Bb, Eb and Ab. Four is Bb, Eb, Ab and Db. Five is Bb, Eb, Ab, Db and Gb. Six is Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, Gb and Cb. and Seven is Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, Gb, Cb and Fb.
After hours of searching finally someone who actually taught me something
For me it only took one search few seconds

It was pretty helpful. You seemed a bit nervous at the beginning, but then seemed to get a little more comfortable near the end. This is a good refresher course for former musicians coming back, or for new students. Well played sir. Well played.
Who gets nervous from watching a video on how to read music? You have to just try and make yourself nervous at this point.
I am 19 and haven't played since that time in elementary. Thank you for showing such nice video! I plan to prove that you don't need 30 years to be good-just heart and love for music!
Did you do the video.its been 6 years
I've learnt quite a lot after this and started to apply it when I sing In my choir.
This video has changed my life.
I've watched so many videos explaining this and finally I get it! Thank you i like you style of teaching you are very thorough.
Very good lesson!! Thou art a very good teacher!! Following from Kampala.
Treble clef is also called G clef because the clef sign wraps around the G line, not the B line.
+Danae Marinelli Thanks I was confused on that.
... and the dot of the bass clef lies on the F line, not on the G !!
@@ulrichriediger4316 the two dots sit above and below F
What is the transcribe staff notation to solfa notations
You are stupid

The 1ST video that makes it seem easy. Not everyone can teach but you definitely can... Thanks SOOOO much for this

Good Boys Do Fine Always
What's so tough about GABCDEFGA for Bass Clef and EFGABCDEF for Treble Clef? ._. They are all alphabetical, y'know.
It can also be represented as Every Good Boy Deserves Favor / All cows Eat Grass
Annabelle Reyna yesss
Annabelle Reyna I love it! The food rhymes are easiest for me. Thank you!
I think it finally hit me with this video. Thnx

The only lecture I found on TH-cam that was worth the time as it actually taught something
bass clef: Good Boys Deserve Fudge Always

Changed my life I owe you one ☝️beer on me! 😂😂🍺
Beautiful, definitely saving this video for later, thank you!!!
The curl in the treble clef should circle the "G" line, or the second line of the staff (counting from bottom to top).
Agree, The Clef is a G Clef
you have no idea how much this video is useful I have my Christmas exams coming up and when the teacher teaches me I really do not understand what ever he says he's always saying #flats and flats and I don't understand. and when he's explain the basics it's confusing at this video is so easy to understand thank you for it
The gaps I call "all cows eat grass"
Thank you for sharing
I'm a total novice here, so please forgive my naivete. Am I understanding this correctly, that DO RE MI FA SO LA TI DO is basically, E F G A B C D E?
You're on the right track but in that scale there are sharp notes. It's E F# G# A B C# D# E. (# is the symbol meaning sharp if you didn't know)
Scales can be tricky. Some have sharp notes and some have flat notes.
DO RE MI FA SOL LA TI DO can be on any 8 adjacent letters, provided that you know all of your scales. The easiest one to use is C D E F G A B C.
Yo soy Hueyapan ion get this cuz basically I'm a total novice at this and when others do it in class I feel totally left out.....i know all these letters are basically DO,'RE MI,FA,SO LA,TI,DO....right
Very helpful lesson for people (like me) with no basic knowledge about reading music notes
Mine was every good burger deserves fries
I'll drink to that
I love Green Birds Don’t Fly Away as opposed to the saying I was always taught. This I will remember easily forever. Thank you.

Sir you are a good teacher, your teaching is very simple and understandable
We were given a daily recreation;

hey guy, you are going some where with this lesson. you helped me a lot already. I will keep on watching your music lesson. This is a promise to you!!!!
instead of Green Birds Don't Fly Away I immediately thought "Good Boys Don't Fuck Around" XD I think I'll remember it forever.
Thank-you for the refresh, in band class i just pretended to read music and played it all by ear; i was always 1st chair😄
The only thing that's different in my thinking is the 'notes' i see as sounds and just never thought of them anyother way.

very helpful! thanks
Wow this is so much more easier to understand than what my old piano teacher has thought me. thank you so much!
STAFF: singular; STAVES: plural :/
Oh , did you stuck up there ? You can't be srious :/
This not theory, this is the basic fundamentals of music.
the auto focus adjusting drove me NUTS but thanks a lot for the tutorial
