What a great collection of memories from old Glasgow! But for this excellent channel, I doubt if many of these amazing photographs would ever be looked at again. By the way, is there any chance of unearthing vintage material of old Govanhill? It's clearly an area that has seen better days, and I think it might possibly have a distinguished photographic past.
This Govanhill boy would like that too. Ironically when I was growing up, Govanhill was considered quite a posh area. How things change. Viccy road seems to be ok and I'd probably be happy living there if I were to return.
Another great one Colin. I've got fond memories of Saturday morning matinees at the Odeon Eglinton Toll in the 1960's (Any photos of the Calder picture house in Govanhill?). Re the Apollo demolition photo, is it my imagination or is there someone sitting at a table, next to a plate glass window in the building a few feet to the right of the demolition?
the photo at 12.15 min... is not the forth and clyde canal at maryhill its the monkland canal at garngad near to castle st townhead next to the carlton cinema.. I am one of the kids in that photo.. the girl standing was one of my friends older sister and it was her boyfriend who took this photo..it would be about1960 or 1961
Fantastic old Glasgow
Wonderful, stunning photographs. Thanks Colin.
However, Neil Young’s ‘Old Man’ has been an ear worm all day ! Hadn’t heard it for many years.
Thank you Duncan.

Thank you, you're right, there is someone next door. I'll have a look for the Calder.
I used to go to the Saturday morning pictures for sixpence. We lived in Fourth Street and I was allowed to go on my own.
Magic , thanks Colin .
