    Great lesson! Loving these videos, they are extremely helpful😁🙏🏼🐴 to me the best is how things get broken down into bite sized chunks, and the WHY behind it. I am applying these lessons to my riding and definitely seeing a difference! Thank you for making this content available for free on TH-cam, you are changing so many horse and rider’s lives!! 😍

    Love this. One suggestion would be maybe a go pro view that is looking down at her seat and hands or a picture of it. Some kind of close up. Just my opinion. Thank you!

    Thankyou for showing this on Gee! Bring able to see the improvement really helps. A little diagram that flashes up showing the bend, tracks and flexion of each lateral movement could be really helpful. Absolutely love the breakdown of rider weight and position 🙏

      On Tuesday Alicia is going to answer many of the comments and questions live!
      But to help for now..
      Shoulder fore, is simply that the shoulder is not inline with the hind leg. That there is SOME movement. BUT it is not a measured one. So even 1cm in is shoulder fore. Shoulder in in 30% in. So it is a quantifiable movement of the shoulder.
      Renvers is the inverse movement in relation to travers. The hindquarters remain on the track while the forehand is moved inward. To finish the renvers the forehand is aligned with the quarters on the track. Otherwise, the same principles and conditions that apply to the travers are applicable to the renvers. The horse is slightly bent around the inside leg of the athlete. The horse’s outside legs pass and cross in front of the inside legs. The horse is bent in the direction in which it is moving.
      Hope this helps! xxx

      Hand position is such a hot topic! In the Dressage Institute program, we actually have a whole collection of videos which are purely based around your hand position, relationship between the hands and arms and reins :) We would love to gift you access to the Dressage Institute for 14 days (Alicia loves being philanthropic) - check your email as the team has sent you an email. What we would like to do is set up a zoom meeting with you to show you exactly where those videos are - how exciting! Alicia loves an action taker :)

    I have to tell you about my breakthrough today with shoulder in! My horse is more stiff to the right(less muscling on right shoulder blade too), so it's very hard for me to get much bend to the right, he'd rather go left. It's also hard to sit in the banana of a right bend without folding in the hip too since I need so much leg on that side. BUT on my super rainy trial ride today (because I have no ring to work in), I was working on shoulder in and bending/softening when I remembered to move both hands together over to the right (grand prix hands¬ grand prix hands LOL)- OMG both his shoulders moved upward and over that very second, he stayed in a soft frame, i was able to stay straight yet in the banana and use minimal leg, he was forward and not at all against me! it felt amazing, and i only had to keep them there a few seconds. Only did it a couple of times for a very short time, but that was the easiest and most harmonic transformation we've had in a long time! Thank you Alicia!

    Love this! My mare is struggling and am not sure if it's me or her. We are western dressage and we just moved up to second level. Going to try an English saddle and see if it helps me with this maybe the western saddle itnt giving me the feel. We are getting to much bend in her neck, though it is straight.

    AMAZING, now everyone could think of the movement not just do it like it's a trick. You rose a good question - what's wrong in a training scale when there are difficulties in the movement. Please explain the half pass the same way) because I have difficulties with the bend only in half pass (no in circles, shoulder-ins, pirouettes etc) and I'm puzzled with where I missed something that led to the issue.
    And yes, everybody could google how to DO the movement but nobody tells you how to "think" in it and make it better, 100 agree

    When you say sit to the small part of the banana do you mean actual move your seat in the saddle so you slide to that side of the saddle, or stay sitting centrally but somehow weight that seat bone more/put more weight in the stirrup on that side? So often in dressage you get told to do something but not how exactly to do it!

  • @lindawalker3373

    When/why would you choose to use a shoulder in versus a leg yield to improve suppleness?

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Linda! Leg yield will always be the best movement for suppleness, think of how much you can vary the movement ie steepness, doing it on a circle line etc. Shoulder in is also good for suppleness and greatly improves the horses balance but overall leg yield should be your go to for suppleness x

    This is SO helpful! My horse always tilts the neck in- will give these exercises a try ! What level is this horse training at currently as a point of reference ? His canter is fantastic!

      Glad it was helpful! Thank you! Yes his canter is amazing!
      He is training most of the inter 1 movements. But he has a fundamental suppleness issues. Day one and two he rides like a novice horse! It is a constant battle to ensure he says good in his basics

    Hi loved the video! What needs to be worked on when the horse loses his forward when in shoulder in?

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! Try to ask yourself why the horse is losing his forward, it could be due to the angle of the shoulder in being too difficult for the horse in that moment, or you might need to remind the horse to always stay in front of your leg, or the horse could be drifting in the movement making it too hard for the horse. Let me know if this helps!

    great and perfect explanation for the shoulder in,please keep going.|||
    I have a big question:my boss insist about inside leg inside hand after the fence just for to be able to approch to next fence...what do you think about this?Miliard thanks

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is always had to comment without understanding what the coach is seeing etc. But if you do that aid you would be asking for a leg yield of sorts. So if that is the outcome he/she is looking for then that would be appropriate. It would increase suppleness and potentially get them off the forehand

  • @victoriagibson4299
    @victoriagibson4299 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great explanation! Is the difference between the shoulder fore and in, the degree of bend and angle ?

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Victoria, yes that is right! So Shoulder In is 30% angle (or 3 tracks when you look from the front) and a Shoulder fore is just a smaller angle but not measured, so anything from slightly off wall up up to the angle of Shoulder In. Hope this helps x

    Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us all. Question. I am an older rider in my 60's. When it comes to shifting your weight to one side of the banana, is it a pushing down in the stirrup, a tilt of the hip to the outside? I think I try too hard and overdo it as my boy either blocks against me or veers off too much? Help?

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your question, when thinking of sitting in the banana remember you need to remain upright in your upper body so it is not tipping or leaning. If you look closely at the footage of Alicia riding the shoulder in you will see her align her shoulders and hips with where she wants the horses spine to be. Hope this helps 💕

    Could you tell me your leg position is while you are doing the shoulder in. I understand about body position, just not sure on my legs. Great information though. Thanks so much. X

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jane. The leg position is all passive. The leg only keeps the forward, the shoulder moving is all that needed.

    I have a horse that rushes a lot in the trot. I’ve had coaches tell me to slow my rise and he will match me but either I’m not doing it correctly or he’s not listening. Do I need to use my hands/reins to bring him back too? Or only my rise? I don’t get it

    Thank you! Really lovely explanation. So I know a horse that is tilting it's head when asking for inside/outside bend. Would you say this is because of falling of the shoulders? Or how can we improve that?
    Thanks

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is all due to suppleness. It means he has a block in the suppling and connection over the back. So the answer is basic suppeling work.
      Also check his teeth! xx

    What do you mean ‘go up the levels’ and what is Ronver 😅

    • @YourRidingSuccess
      @YourRidingSuccess  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hello! So go up the levels means, from the beginning all the way to Grand prix.
      Let us know if there are any more questions! x
