I know it's not a popular opinion but I think the idea of Medusa being a mortal daughter of two gods, without a real place among mortals or immortals, has much more interesting potential for stories than making her the 85th victim of an Olympian's libido.
I'd love to see some videos on the Etruscan deities, alongside the Carthaginians, as they're highly underrated imo. It should also be noted that the Roman deities were not just carbon copies of the Ancient Greeks but also may have taken inspiration from the Latin's northern neighbours in Etruria!
Can you show the Roman forms of your gods because you made Neptune and Minerva unique form their Greek forms like the heroes of Olympus? That would be cool. Maybe discuss the differences between Greek and Roman gods
This honestly helps me a lot on some things as I’m trying to write a fictional book about monsters throughout mythology and legends and Typhon is a center focus for my main character to release. Now I have some more beings I can use as I wanted to try to be as accurate as possible, but also have the idea of showing that they evolved throughout the years in their own way instead of what we know of them back then
Hey jake! maybe you should do a video on Artemis and Apollo telling their tales or some lesser known gods or on Poseidon son Polyphemus and how Odysseus stabbed out his eye.
Yeah, in ancient Greece, homossexuality was pretty common, so they envisioned the gods doing it as it was normal. Moral of the story cake is cake and pleasure is pleasure.
I love the history of Aeneas. Especially the part where Virgil on his death bed begged his apprentice to burn his weird Homeric Aeneas Fan-Fiction. He did not. FYI, that's where the Byzantium Empire comes from, and why Rome actually moved the capitol.
You have a few mentions of dragons in this video. I thought that the word and beast dragon was a medieval invention, and the word dragon originally meant snake. (The greeks not knowing the beast dragon)
that is actually quite a complicated question, dragons (whilst not always referred to that) were kinda a historical constant, there were of course the european dragons which you mentioned and the chinese dragons there are also figures such as quetzlocoatl (not sure I spelt that right but have mercy) and of course the greek hydra and the other multiheaded serpent dragon creature heracles got atlas to defeat, and romans (whilst not a valid form of greek myth) also had the cockatrice, the chicken basilisk thing. so whilst they likely werent outright called dragons they were what atleast the modern era considers dragons. though it is an interesting topic (especially for fantasy nerds like me) I would like to hear a counter arguement
dragons are a staple of fantasy, a genre almost always set in the medieval era but i'm not sure of any direct dragon references in christianity, the prevading religion of the medieval era. as for the mentions in this video, dragons in some form or another have appeared in so many cultures, so far across the world, across so many eras that some scientist wonder if they may once fhave been real thousands of years ago. TLDR; not a medieval invention but you maybe hear dragon and think of the "traditional" european interpretation despite their prevolence in dozens of cultures ancient and modern.
Drakos are giant Snakes in greek mythology, they usually dont have wings or are related to fire. Typhon however is called a Drako but he is a giant with wings and serpent legs and heads and also heads of lions, bulls, eagles and bears scattered across his body, but his main head looks human. So he is definitily not a traditional medieval dragon.
Favorite example of syncretism when it comes to mythology will always be the Chaoskampf which pops up all across the globe. A deady battle between a god representing wind/lightning against a fearsome primordial serpent : Thor and Jörmungandr, Zeus and Typhon, Indra and Vritra, Susanoo and Yamata no Orochi.

Hey, Jake? Could you do the story of how Loki killed Baldur in Norse mythology? (And also Ragnarok?) I love your videos, and how you portray the gods (in all cultures)
Good choice snitching on hermes. The god in front of you is always the most dangerous. I love tour detail and fun presentation. A terrific teacher! Subbed.
the gorgon looking straight at onlookers reminds me of the egyptian god of fertility (I believe) also the only character to be depicted from the front and put in a lot of different places. Are there any indications they share some history or something?
I personally find it hilarious that Dionysus, god of parties and wine, has a lot of disconnected, sometimes conflicting, myths. You know, like trying to figure out what the f*ck happened last night.
I laughed so hard when the giant ran away from the presence of Athena wearing someone else as Armor and throw Islands at him, that's some messed up looney tunes shit right there

There being no art of the lead tipped spear gives me the same energy as disney movies and cw shows being like "im the son of jack the ripper" when there is no part of history claiming he sired children, its like the ancient greeks heard the story and then said "um no it was a lead tipped spear and he melted it over the monsters mouth while it just sat still and let it kill him" just feels like the same terrible "heavy fanfiction" writing that we get of our childhood stories nowadays.

Athena is called Pallas-Athena because she skinned somebody? My local paper is called the Palladium Item after her and I have never been able to find the reason she is called Pallas-Athena. Kinda grim!
Palas means War, so Palas Athena means Athena of War. There is two origin versions of that name: in one, she had a nymph friend called Palas that was a daughter of the god Triton. When they were fighting in a friendly match, Zeus set up for Athena to win and she k1lled Palas acidentaly. She cried very much and made the Paladium (a wooden image that was later put in Troy and them Rome), and them decided to take her friend name to herself in honor of her. In another version she destroyed the giant Palas and take out his skin to make a armor for herself, thus she also take his name. Ll
Hi jake! Love your content, im also a Percy Jackson fan and i was wondering if you do a part three if you could explain "The Mark of Athena" and demigods (thats if they are both mentioned in the mythology) and maybe the Titan War if its also in the mythology, you don't need to add all of it as i know it takes a long time to animation all of this: take your time! The true story of the Medusa is so much more interesting. There’s a reason her hair was made from snakes and could petrify people .
