I would have measured down from the top of the T-Post 5' and then paint where the post needs to be buried. When the paint disappears only 5 feet should be sticking above ground.
@@CountryViewAcres Or you can just put tape at the 5' level and pound it down to the tape. Probably easier and faster than using paint. The tape could be removed after it is set correctly.
You should run out two wires on top and bottom to give you your fenceline and then you only need to worry about one axis to work with and use a height gauge. If you are on flat ground and don't have to hold your position with your brakes, leave the tractor in neutral, and as you drive the posts and the tractor arms lower the post should remain vertical and the tractor will move rather than push the post over. You get better the more you do and don't always strive for perfection, as long as it's fit for purpose and doesn't look like a dogs dinner, that's all that is required.
I bet Rebekah is a great nurse. You can see it by the way she cares for the ducks and how she likes to pet the animals. She is a great help around the farm. She is a very caring person. Great video.
I hear ya Matt , We have the same problem here in Northern NM . Side by sides have created such a mess in our beautiful mountains , pristine meadows and hidden elk wallows have been decimated by these machines and these owners are mostly from out of town with total disregard for mother nature.
You might be able to measure from the top 6" (if that's how tall you want them out of the ground) and then mark them with something. Then, when you are driving it into the ground, you know when you are getting close and you can let up a little.
I'm sure you are glad about the post driver. Saved hours from using the auger, placing the pipe, putting concrete in!!!! Probably saved days of work. The carry - all forks have come in handy a lot. I'm glad the process is speeding up for you guys. Need an update on the garden and pasture seeding. Love that you take the time to share your journey with us.
@@CountryViewAcres I figured the garden was a little delayed. Not enough hours in a day after working full time and weekends are not long enough. Just think next year you won't have the fence project but another one will take its place. Thanks for the videos!!!
Those turkey eggs came from my husband. He also enjoys watching you. We have a small farm and he loves to work on things. Not to your extent, but some. I also teach with Nikki, where you got the turkeys. Both of you keep doing what you are doing and showing those mistakes! We all learn from them!
You mentioned in your post that you were in Mattoon, Il yesterday. Thanks for handing me my latest order for a new T shirt. I invite you in my house every time you post. It was so nice to meet you and talk while you were visiting Rebekah's family. Love our post and wish I could be there to help you with your work. Many Thanks, John B
This post driver also post hole digger and i sure other products ,this company has been in business since i was a small boy. They are made in fulton,mo 25 miles from mexico,mo .I sure do enjoy your videos .It is great to see u two work together
Finally you’ve got a post driver, that will save you a fortune in concrete, I’ve been trying to tell you you don’t need to concrete intermediate posts in, you don’t even need the. For your stay assemblies
The chain idea is great! How about hanging a "donut" of a steel plate with about a 4 or 5 inch ID from 3 chains. Hang the donut at the center of the driver. Place the donut over the pipe as you start to drive the pipe. The donut will tell you if the pipe is straight (within an inch or so) and the length of the chains will tell you when your at the right depth.
Evan, you do the nicest work I’ve seen, your attention to detail is incredible. Great work. You guys are building a Beautiful farm. Don’t do it all before you retire you’re going to need some of those projects. Rebecca is the Care Giver. She loves the littles. She has such a caring personality. Well done to you both.
@@CountryViewAcres You could take an old 2x4 and make a story board with a stop at one end and a paint shield at 5 feet. Then you wouldn't' have to measure just a quick spray with the rattle can.
Pretty creative with the chain to measure post depth. You could also measure five feet down from the top of your post while they’re laying on the rack and spray paint a white line. When the line touches the ground you’re in.
For the height you could for example on a 10ft post tie a bit of string or draw a white line at the 5ft mark and when that mark hits the ground you know your post is 5ft in height. Great post driver to speed up the process. 👍
Consider putting a paint mark on the post that lets you stop driving as soon as that mark gets to the ground. It should help keep you from overdriving.
We use a 5' piece of schedule 80 pipe that fits over the T post. It has a cap welded on it. We slide the pipe over the post then we can push the T post in the ground with the tractor or skid steer bucket and stop when the post hits the ground. It keeps the post the same height and also keeps the T posts from bending in hard ground.
Cut a 60" story pole, or one minus the distance of the collar your pipe fits inside. We used to do miles on custom fencing every summer between crops. Used to notch the barbed wire spacing on each pole. The only place we ever used a tape measure was on the stretchers between corner or brace posts, saves time. 30+ years I still have some galvanized barbed wire scars on my biceps from being fence high and literally building miles of fences. There's still a few fences standing that we built from tamarack that we logged in the winter.
2 weeks ago my neighbor was rounding up his cattle that got out and my wife was helping him. At that time I wasn't allowed to walk because of my leg injury. But as I sat in the car out of another part of his pasture came a brand new black and white baby. He was so cute running along his mama. I had just watched a video this morning where a guy was using a hand held post driver. More tools now because I can tell you when you get to my age of 71 you can't quite do the things you're brain says.
Rebecca have the biggest best Smile on her face went she has new babies to tend too ! Don't get me wrong both of you together Smiling is always a great addition to your videos !
Enjoyed your video. I once raised ducks and chickens together. When i let ouside to wander around the ducks went in the pond the chickens followed and drowned. Yes i agree work smarter not harder as you had a video before that you made. Nice machine great work have a great day.
I just had an idea watching this for the second time, you could always try a plumb bob for the length of pipe or post you are driving to get your height right for doing it solo. It would allow you to get the driver at the right height to slide it into the driver, getting it level would probably be the trick. Just a thought. I'm looking into this driver for sure in the future. I've got a lot of fencing to do myself.
This driver works good on my tractor for a few reasons. Self leveling loader helps a lot. The Third Function valve is large and has full hydraulic flow, and the loader max height is 10 feet.
I have a tennis ball on a length of baling twine, once I get my first post driven to the right height I tie that baler twine onto my loader to where the ball just touches the ground. For the rest of my posts I know when the ball touches the ground I have it at the right depth and don’t have to stop and measure.
Get a larger diameter pipe or coupling so it goes over the top of the razed top you may have to use a lathe for that part weld a top on then you can use an larger [5lb.] hammer or a dead blow. But by the time you get this all caps will be on for the next time
Your best friend is an abrasive disc chop saw with the pipe/ Way cleaner cuts and as fast as plasma cutting but way cleaner. Next I often cut a chisel point on my pipe before driving it, using a chop saw. Then paint the 5' mark as a 2" white band, drive until the white is gone, so mark it so 5' is above the white stripe. You can do this on pipe, t-posts and any solid item you are driving, makes life way easier.
good purchase on the driver . anything that saves your body is a winner . so it takes two to drive them , no big deal . those post will last a long time
Just a suggestion Evan; Replace the plumb bob with the five foot chain and fasten a round spacer plate to the bottom to guide the forward reverse position.
That only gives the right heights if the tractor is level . If its possible have your depth chain as close to the driver . If possible hang two height chains one on each side of the driver head , they can ack some what like plumb Bob's

Mount another yellow chain on the side of the post driver like the first one is on the back of the drive and as long as the length of chain stays centered along the center of the pipe it should be straight up and down. How about just marking the post at the height you want first? when the mark reaches the ground you know its the perfect height every single time.....
This is the smartest thing that I have ever seen, The free post, and the welding then the painting but the post drive it works it works well.
