- In one of the most anticipated events of Munich 2022, the women's pole vault final delivered drama and action.
There was an unexpected but well-deserving winner from the 12 finalists and a new Championship record set up the process.

After failing first attempt at 4.70 Murto made the tactical decision of leaving two attempts for 4.75, clearing that on first. That was a bold decision as the national record of Finland was 4.72. It was clear from that point on that she was determined to win a bright medal and was confident she could do it. To win gold she had to break the national record a second time at 4.80, and as the going was good she completed with a third national record (4.85 ) in a single competition. Speaking about overachieving in a tough situation.
Bonnin of France looked promising with a good technique. Not quite ready for medals yet, but personal best at 4.55 and good attempts at 4.65.
The fact that Murto takes note of her progress is brilliant. She deserved the victory and the record.
Murto had a rugged start but was superb at the end, what an incredible Finish 👍😎

The girl at 18:41 is probably my favorite, she has a lot of talent and a steady hand. Even though she didn't win, she's clearly a foot or should I say a toe ahead of the competition. Cheeky performance indeed, she could snatch a first place anytime soon.
In contrast what my father used to say "everything before the 'but' is of lesser importance", I think it's important to really look inside the but here but also realize that what's before the but is also very prominent. Of course, there are different types of buts, and can a big but become more distinct than what comes before and behind it? I'm believe the but firmly can be as exciting when you strip down the whole situation. 🧐

My primary complaint in pole vault is that the bar should always be "yellow" for day events and "white" for night events. In this video, the bar is "orange." I believe that the changes in color confuse the athletes and is the cause of so many failed attempts. Look at 1:48:34... you can barely see the bar.
very nice observation my well cultured friend. my only valid complaint is i need the behind the bar replay after each go , where the athlete is running straight at the camera .

Winner is most accumulated points - most accumulated weight successfully over the bar. Athletes would be encouraged to go into competition heavier.
Weight over the bar has nothing to do with this sport. Slim and trim and go as high as you can go!!!!!
