    Steve is the best of the best on country rock//Americana....lucky to have been alive during this tenure and seen him in the early days... Unfortunately (or not) most "country fans" don't even know who he is!

    Just recently looked beyond Guitar Town and Copperhead Road and recently bought two cd's. Gems on both. Will be buying more. His honestly in interviews is unheard of in the entertainment world. An American treasure for sure.

    No doubt this was magic. I actually have "the other kind" tatooed on the back of my arm. He definitely pulled from a darker place back then, but it was in a word...magic. I do miss that sound, but his new art is just as magical, not quite as dark, but neither is he. I love him and he will always be the best writer ever in my books. May the shadow of Peace and Love follow Steve and his family wherever they trod! Peace from West Texas!

    Remember as a boy my dad would have these cassettes in his pick up truck , we would wear them out on road trips and camping trips. I could damn near cry looking back at the good times and these good songs , I'm 35 now with two kids of my own and though it won't be cassette tapes we wear out it'll surely be an iPod. God bless you all from Canada!

    Steve Earle has got to be one of my all-time favorites. I remember two distinct Steve Earle epiphanies that forever changed my musical world. The first one was in Kenny's Arcade in the fall of 1986 and "Guitar Town" came on the jukebox. I knew right then and there that I needed to learn to play guitar and so I did. Haven't quit.
    The second epiphany was on November 17, 1987, when I snuck into 86 St. Music Hall in Vancouver to see Steve Earle & The Dukes. I forever and ever became a fan!

    This song spoke volumes to me as a 12 year old kid. I have The Other Kind tattooed on my right arm with the skull and crossbones from the Copperhead Road album cover except I replaced the shield with Harley Davidson wings!

    Huge fan from Guitar Town on. However, I saw him during the Copperhead Road tour, and he showed up very late, while we were left standing outside in the cold. When they finally let us in two hours later, he took almost an hour to tune his guitars. I was pretty pissed after that show. But I still do respect him greatly for his songwriting abilities. That was a long time ago, and I wish him nothing but the best now.

  • @princessofhesse
    @princessofhesse 11 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    well, you are wrong about that, sorry about the off night, maybe he wanted to sing and not sing over you. i've seen him many, many times, never once did he give anything less than 100% and $5000 worth of music for a $25.00 ticket. would walk across glass to see him. i'd give him another chance and listen for a change. just saying.

  • @darlincommitme
    @darlincommitme 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Agreed - not sure it was Earle who was being a jerk. Though I think part of the problem is that Steve's work varies so much, that he has folks who love the more subdued folk leaning music and those who want to rock. Unfortunately acceptable audience behavior for a rock concert is different from a folk concert. But I say if it is a seated venue, calm down a bit and don't come in sloppy drunk.

    Whose the person that didn't like this? Why?

    • @fancifulfilly
      @fancifulfilly 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never even pay attention to how many likes and dislikes a TH-cam gets, and I don't need to tell you it's a waste of time. You don't even know if the person who put a thumbs down did so because they dislike the song per se, (unimaginable!) or because they found the acoustics on this live version disappointing. I liked it anyway, but maybe that person was so used to the studio version they were disappointed in the sound quality on Letterman's show. Best to just shine it on.

    I had a best friend that separated from his wife while we were in the military. After she picked up and left him he took his Honda V45 Magna on a road-trip for a month across the American Southwest sans hotels. He slept when he wanted, ate when he wanted, and made friends wherever he found them.
    He got back with his Wife, and slept with mine a year after that. I beat him so badly it took me 3hrs with a steam-cleaner to remove all the blood.
    But I envy him that road-trip to this very day.

Then you went on to call (whoever) a dumbass and stated that you couldn't resist. So, I said I guess you were feeling pretty small bla bla bla...but I meant I guess you do need to make yourself feel big by trying to make others feel small after all.
