Lyrics
I was born my papa's son
A wanderin' eye and a smokin' gun
Now some of you would live through me
Lock me up and throw away the key
Or just find a place to hide away
Hope that I'll just go away
I feel alright - I feel alright tonight
I'll bring you precious contraband
And ancient tales from distant lands
Of conquerors and concubines and
Conjurers from darker times
Betrayal and conspiracy
Sacrilege and heresy
I got every thing you wont or need
Your darkest fear, your fondest dream
I ask you questions, tell you lies
Criticize and sympathize
Be careful what you wish for friend
Because I've been to hell and now I'm back again
The best living songwriter in America. And I'll say that standing on Bob Dylan's coffee table with my boots on!
Amen Brother!
First time I heard him I knew he was something special. Guitar Town.
FUCKIN A !!!!
I hear you. But don’t get lost in jingoistic approach. Both are unreal. I get sick of people proclaiming “top 5” or whatever. Ranking talent like this is pointless. I always think “well that one got them the keys to heaven”. Steve and Bob will both be there.
Josh homme and jack white are probably better in terms of song construction and overall creativity but this guys very good.
Man, loved this as the closing song in season 2 of "The Wire"
Its been in soo many American shows and movies... its pure Americana baby :)
@@doubleugly1594 Yeah, but Steve was actually IN The Wire. So there's that.
Got to see this legend last night for the first time and he's still bringing down the house!
Me too!!!!!
Hands down, my favorite Steve Earle song.
Loving him for 36 years ! The Best!
Hi
How's life at your end?
Your comments bring so much joy,
I'm really glad our paths have crossed here
Steve is the greatest songwriter to ever live, fight me!
LOVE YOUR STUFF STEVE! -CANADIAN TRUCKER OUT.
If this was your first time to look at him, you wouldn't exactly think he's one of the best lyricists in rock history. But he is.
Idk man the best lyricists have always looked half stoned 99% of the time take Jack Kerouac for example
the drummer in this performance is seriously talented, he is a demon on the high hats
CLASS!! Quality!! Genius bloke and a friggin great live band too. :)
This is how legends are marketed
The drums sound great on this track
The spirit of " the man in Black" but he walks around in jeans and a t-shirt. Good stuff!
Massive artist and a massive song! Wow!! 🔥💯🤠
Steve Earle is awesome ❤❤❤
The Wire brought me here.
Just wow!
Prison is good, it saved my life. This song by Mr Steve Earle and band top drawer.
Love this tune
MY MAN!!
yeah they are....great show!
Worthy of note Johnny Cash never did any prison time, but Steve Earle did. I heard that part of his sentence was to do a prison concert series. Perhaps this video is one of those given. Steve's community service fulfillment
Yes it is.
@@garyjthorn I absolutely love Mr Earle. What an amazing talent
amazing. my life.
Righteous
That is one tight f***ing band.
🙏

☮️
AMEN
Nuff said
Hey,
How's your day treating you?
Your comments are like a ray of sunshine
I'm genuinely happy to be connecting with you here

Looks like Kurt Custer on drums, Kevin Looney on bass, and Bucky Baxter on guitar
Baxter was out of the band several years before this (never returned after Steve got clean) and he mostly played pedal steel. Lead guitar is Eric Ambel (aka Roscoe) (dark hair) and rhythm guitar (long hair) is Steve's brother in law Mark Stuart (Stacey's husband.) EDIT - In case folks don't keep reading - David Steele, not Ambel on guitar. Ambel joined a couple years later.
Guy on drums looks NOTHING like Kurt Cobain.
And the name CUSTER does not look anything like the name COBAIN. There is more than one Kurt in the word, and no one said anything about Cobain. (Kurt Custer was Earle's drummer at this point.)
That's David Steele on lead guitar. Roscoe joined the band when David left.
Shit. You are right. Sorry to be spreading misinformation.
😀👍🤘😉🎶☺️🙋
Hey there
How's everything in your world?
Your words are truly appreciated
I'm grateful for the chance to connect with you here
just rolling down on Shazam, and said I why not today
The wire
Damn I shoulda gone to prison!!
Steve hadn’t long served a couple of months in this facility himself (cocaine and firearm charges) and I believe this concert was mandatory under the conditions of his parole.
Sembra la scena finale dei Blues Brothers 😆👍
Why do shitty directors over rely on the moving camera shot when filming concerts?
When I seen Steve his backing band was a DJ.
Supernatural ❤🇧🇷
I came by this song watching the movie Switchback
Jailhouse Rock
J.T.E.
It's a correctional facility....not like they bought a ticket!
daniel mendenhall, LOL.
They still seem to be into it!
And?? We didn't buy a ticket to read your limp wiener comment either, did we now.
Steve Earle ... Johnny Cash ... what other edgy singer / songwriters played inside?
A lot of black people in the audience? What was up with that
Cold Creek Correctional Facility... Just the way a correctional facility population stacks up...
News flash: Black People Like Music
True, but I have seen Steve many times, and the audience is very white, as much as I am sure he would love it to be more mixed.
All The Wire fans
Prison!!
