Glad to see you are staying 90s ;-) and good for you to review your collection every so often and pivot. Your thoughts on 90s and vintage are many that I have and why I myself continue to pickup more 90s. Also helps this era was when I was growing up. Take care my friend!
Anyone who criticizes you is crazy - collecting what you enjoy is what it is about. Good luck with your sales. Let us know where and how you are selling. You collected vintage similar to how I do so would have interest in some. For me it is fun to expand my 50s and 60s HOF collection. A dream of someday having them all will never come true but completing single years is very satisfying for me. My collection has surpassed my wildest dream as a kid buying vintage in the 80s. However, I have drifted into food issues like Wilson Franks, Johnston cookies and Hires Root Beer. The Red Heart Musial is definitely a card I will get at some point. 8.5 is my favorite grade by far wonder which of us has more. 10 years ago bought so many in that grade. You may remember I love OPC too and am working on a ‘71 OPC HOF set.
Thanks, yeah we have similar tastes for sure. I have been getting Kahn's clementes recently. I am not getting rid of the 8.5's and my 71 Rose and Ryan OPC's will always have a place in my collection.
Honestly dude you should dive into collecting the 90's inserts NOW! They are so much more rarer than anyone realized and are drying up after 25-30 years! The Players in every set are so incredible and legendary and ones everyone knows about and has stories about! Plus the SHINE! This is the time period where the card companies competed against each other for top dog and the inserts are incredible to look at! High Quality all around! especially a Pinnacle or Ex 2001 Essential credentials chase card! In fact the essential credentials are actually not that hard to attain and they are now available from collectors who spent decades coalating them! So you can save time buying the cards and copies of the same cards that you want, without having to hunt on eBay every hour for years on end!
@@cardsandcomics I just think the '90s cards are really sharp and rare! In fact, I'm now more than willing to go $1200 for a Griffey or buy it now on every Bursting insert from an enigmatic set! I just think they are top notch and rare to the point of even any Reserve being completely hoarded now!
I went through a similar (albeit smaller scale) decision awhile back where I was gathering random runs and small collections of things I wasn't passionate about just because. I decided to whittle down my graded top tier collection for both 90s and Vintage and focus on specific 5 card runs for players and types of 90s inserts/paralles that I loved from that era (I keep a hard limit on total number of graded cards for both 90s, Vintage and Autos at 100; if i pick up something new, it must take the spot of something I have or was chasing; keeps the puzzle going as to how to rearrange and fit my collection). I also decided to liquidate a large autographed RC collection for Griffey, 90s HOFers, and other players I liked because I saw such a surge in supply from TriStar/4Sharp Corners etc that made the chase less challenging and enjoyable. I've now found my lanes and a lot of my picks ups are pre-war and 40s/50s vintage for NY Yankees and 500 HR club members but actually a lot of 90s inserts ungraded - which is far more reasonable than graded versions of same card. And they go in a growing binder sets
Good luck, that should be fun. I think top end 50's & 60's Vintage are so expensive anymore for Key players. I think when you get into the weeds of the 90's top inserts and parallels they get expensive to. I didnt really pay attention to cards from say the 1997 era to say 2001. But some of the better 90's inserts came out then like the Essential Credentials, PMG's, Star Rubies then. And that whole 93-2000 period was so volatile for cards. I bought some of those very early Skybox 3 star rookies and other rookies numbered to like 50,000, ha back in the day so I never payed attention to Skybox later on since those were such a bust. To bad because they came out with such great cards later in the 90's. Then later went bankrupt, just like Pinnacle with all the Certified stuff. & Pinnacle was hard to follow with select certified, totally certified, mirror certified, certified certified, ha. Anyway the 90's are very challenging but I am a big 90's insert & parallel fan.
I think of it as a sign of growing with age . A 1000, or 5 or 10 won't make you love them . Keep and collect only the ones you really love , (minus the grade) . My thought s at almost 60 yrs. old
I think it makes sense! Like the saying says- collect what you love! I was waiting for you to say- how you would sell the cards (eBay, auction, card shows?) and to see sone of the cards. Maybe a future video!
100%, I look at my collection and ask would I rather have 20, $200 dollar 60's HOF's or 1 90's Ken Griffey Jr refractor numbered out of 100 that is actually hard to find and replace.
I agree, most Vintage is oversupplied and oversaturated in Hobby, especially late 50s-1970s. Good luck on the rotation and aiming for the Top Shelf Griffey/90s cards - let me know what's top of the list and can keep an eye out. Are you selling any Vintage on eBay?
They call them trading cards for a reason. Get out of stuff you don't like and into what you do. I find most 60s topps boring myself, but you slap the opc logo on it or that Venezuelan back on them I'm excited. I think 90s insert are beautiful, but the one per pack insert and one per case are identical to me. Nobody likes them, but I love collecting diamond matchbooks. Just collect what you love.
I don’t think you should sell. Collecting is a lifelong journey, and I’m sure over time you’ll get all the cards that you love. It’s because of you. I am working on getting all the Hall of Famers from 1970, 72,73, 74,75. All in psa 8 and of course some 8.5 Lol
Hello just wondering where are you selling your vintage baseball card's. What year and players you selling. I would be interested do you have a email to have a talk and pricing
Enjoy what you collect but realize that 90s cards aren't any more rare than boomer cards, its just that the collectors of that era are liquidating their collection. No one lives forever and it will happen to 90s cards in 40 years. Collect 90s because they are AWESOME not because they will hold value once our generation has moved on.
I'd have to disagree. Serious collectors who chase 90s HOFers don't go after the overprinted base...they go after refractors, inserts numbered to 100 or less.

Enjoyed hearing your thoughts and I can relate very much to morphing through different phases of collecting 😆
good luck on your journey.

I agree the good and rare cards are much harder to find than most 60s and 70s hofs even in high grade

My top loader binders are now my favorite part of my collection. Looking at my growing 98 Crusade set is just fun and that's what its all about

Love that choice for you!!!! I believe 90's cards are just beginning. Would be interested in some of your basketball when your ready to sell

Private sales right now. I don't know when or if I will do something more public.
I’ve gone through this myself, so I totally get it. Good luck!
Thanks! I already stopped buying those cards now i am just selling
I can relate. I’m trying to liquidate everything from my collection that isn’t rare and turn them into bigger, scarcer cards.
100%, I look at my collection and ask would I rather have 20, $200 dollar 60's HOF's or 1 90's Ken Griffey Jr refractor numbered out of 100 that is actually hard to find and replace.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and collection strategy.

If you have any vintage football cards I’m interested

go for PSA 10s so you can put them in your registration. Kids cry when they get 8's
