Boy, the nights were so bright back then, you had to wear sunglasses! Thanks Fred, I loved The Outer Limits. It really brings back great childhood memories of sleep overs, watching The Outer Limits with friends and loving to be scared to death. What a wonderful carefree time of life! I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

The episode that scared the life out of me as a kid was. "It crawled out of the woodwork"
With that Stop motion Animated Cloud of energy. Ed Asner was in it. My older sisters would scare me with balls of steel wool under my bed after we had watched the episode..

    • @ClayLoomis1958
      @ClayLoomis1958 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Scared me too. I'd say It Crawled Out of the Woodwork was one of the most scary episodes for me. But The Zanti Misfits was the one that shattered this little 5 year old boy. I had to sleep with the covers over my head for weeks after that one.

    • @5argetech56

    • @ClayLoomis1958

That was a show that would come with a warning today. For many of those episodes, they wouldn't get a G rating at a theater, and little kids really shouldn't watch them. And right before bed time was a VERY bad time to be watching them. But, like lawn darts, no helmets for bikes, and monkey bars built over asphalt, kids were not so worried about in the 60's. It was "Here you go, young man. A chemistry set with volatile compounds that you can use to blow yourself up."

Well done! This certainly would have made a passable episode of Outer Limits, though it wouldn't have made my personal top 10. I was waiting throughout to see how you were going to handle the ending Control Voice moral-of-the-story, Fred, and you really knocked it out of the ballpark by finding one that was just generic enough to fit. I remember as a kid I liked watching Outer Limits and all my friends at school said why do you watch that junk when there are such good shows as Name oh The Game with Gene Berry and Mission Impossible. I was the only kid who liked those "weird" sci fi shows. Teachers said I had low intelligence because I liked junk science fiction writers like Robert Heinlein. I wanted to do a book report on Stranger in a Strange Land and the teacher said not that trash in my classroom. I asked the teacher how she knew it was trash if she never even read it and she said Heinlein was one of those nutty science fiction writers. It was tough to like writers like Ray Bradbury in the 60's because you got the worst kind of prejudice.

I think there were worse kinds of prejudice in the 60s 😅 but i feel you. I didnt know it was so looked down upon. I was born in the 90s. The most related thing i can imagine is my teachers said reading books about alien abductions and ghost stories doesnt count as "reading". And that i need to write my paper about a "real book". Their problem wasnt that it was fiction, fiction is fine. I guess they just thought the subject matter was trashy.

I was 10 years old in 1960. After watching that Salem commercial it's no wonder that I started smoking cigarettes when I was 11. It was presented as the thing to do to me as I was growing up and it was over and over on television. I've fought against that addiction my whole life and have had limited success. But I will add that the Hideous Sun Demon was a great addition as an Outer Limits episode. Very cleverly done with the music and intro especially. Bravo.

As a kid I remember Patricia Manning as Lady Beatrice Mervyn in the Boris Karloff TV series "Thriller." The episode was The Closed Cabinet. She was a cursed ghost, having killed her abusive husband in the 1600s in the same English castle where the story takes place. It was the mother in law that put the curse on her-----those dang mothers in law! All the descendants of Lady Beatrice were to die at a young adult age unless the curse was broken (within the cabinet). A young Jerry Goldsmith wrote the score.

The Hideous Sun Demon was a b-movie but to this day I always thought star, writer and director Robert Clarke did an admirable job. The end is somewhat intense and sad. It may have been based on a reversal of the Wolf Man (who was affected by the full moon) but this 1958 film fits beautifully in the FredFlix adaptation to The Outer Limits. Good job. This was done fairly well. The narration at the end from the original series fit the Sun Demon too.
Oh yeah, I was 7 when I first saw this film at a Saturday afternoon double-feature matinee with The Blob, or Caltiki the Immortal Monster -- I don't remember. I had to go home and look the word "hideous" up. That was the first time I learned a word that I had no idea about. When Kramer in Seinfeld said the word in one episode I laughed for ten minutes. B-movies tried so hard to stay within the bounds of reality in their fiction.
One of the spookiest strangest Outer Limits episodes was with George MacReady -- "Production and Decay of Strange Particles".

I am a Ph.D. scientist-engineer today because of The Outer Limits. I was 10 years old when I began watching it. I wanted to be that scientist in The Outer Limits that did frontier pioneering work. And so I did! It was Karma for me, and I consider myself an expert in the episodes of The Outer Limits. After all, it is the major guiding dogma that I have for my life as a scientist!
This episode was never broadcast because it lacks a certain dramatic suspense, humanistic anthology, and acting that other episodes have with more emphasis. It was essentially a 'Frankenstein' remake. At least the control voice ended the episode with "courage, Inspiration, and Integrity".....I add compassion to that mix, with a lot of other aspects of human attributes, virtues or not.
I am betting, given the limited budget that they had, and the producers of creative genius, they decided to scrap this episode and considered it a last resort. Just a guess, but thanks for your very good detective work and contribution!
Thank you to the producers of The Outer Limits for making what I am today!

You are thinking of "The Guests."
The scariest one for me was "A Feasibility Study." I had night terrors after the episode. The rules of the show were that the "monster" had to be neutralized by show's end to dispel the fear. However, in that episode, the aliens only lost their motivation to kidnap people in their beds. But they still retained the power to do it. The subconscious mind didn't overlook that.

An invisible power trying to learn how to contact beings unlike itself, using familiar objects and lower life forms. A bit like that terrible old film THE BEAST WITH A MILLION EYES, but done with real atmosphere by the OL crew. The walking dead scene with Arthur Hunnicutt was very well done (in me 'umble opinion)/quite creepy.
