    RIP. Gaynor. People don’t always talk about how menopause is affecting them. I can say, that without a doubt, I have had the most horrendous 2 years of it. I have been on the brink often. It’s torture. You do think you’re going crazy, the anxiety can be off the charts. HRT made me feel much worse.

    I did want to say how good and refreshing it is to see someone championing mental health and the scourge, because thats what it is, of people taken too soon as a result of their suffering and the terrible impact on the poor families left behind. It's the worthiest cause to get behind.

    There is an interesting distinction between Nicola's inquest finding (accidental death) and this one (death by misadventure) - which basically reflects there being evidence of intent to enter the river in this case, that was not there in Nicolas. But the Coroner felt there was not sufficient evidence of intent to die. Don't under-estimate how important family testimony is in Coroners Court,- it probably stopped Nicola's being at least an open verdict. If we are really interested in making a difference we should get angry about lack of Mental health provision, restricted access to health provision, and lack of education and poor public perceptions around mental health.

    • @Fortean-1423
      @Fortean-1423 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      In Nicolas case, the families legal representative requested the accidental verdict - this was coordinated & pre-emptive imho. Because based on what the family themselves said at the Inquest (I was there listening to their testimony) I don’t believe that’s what they genuinely believed. None of them. IMHO, my hypothesis you could say, I believe they may have been led to believe the Coroner was thinking down the self deletion route (which he never was) which left them open to accepting (or preferring) an accidental verdict as a better outcome - though NOT what they really wanted? Like any family, they wanted answers to what happened to Nicola. They wanted the truth. But because the Inquest outcome was determined long before it began - the Authorities wanted an end to the case there & then. They could not give an open verdict (which would have been appropriate given the facts as presented) as an open verdict left the loose ends dangling forever & inevitably FOI Requests may have uncovered the truth. So an accidental verdict it was. Case closed, signed sealed, buried in concrete. Never to be reopened.
      Louise says in a clip from the documentary tonight ‘sometimes bad things just happen, it doesn’t always have to be something sinister…’ and I agree, it doesn’t always.
      But it was in Nicolas case. There’s no doubt about it in my eyes, or mind.
      Knowing that, it leaves the door open to the same perpetrator being responsible for many many more river deaths in the UK. IMHO

    She couldn't stop for the crossing lights at the Cathedral, stepping out in front of cars and dodging the, as though she couldn't pause and was driven by thoughts. Her coat was off and she was seen going down to the river there by the Cathedral to Pulls Ferry. When she is seen on camera leaving the Cathedral grounds she is pulling on her coat, maybe more for comfort than warmth. She was still walking fast and probably not cold at all. Just wonder if she had thought about the river there, but couldn't do it, and then remembered the park she knew well. Her walking then was slower on camera, as if she was steadying herself and thoughts more focused on what she might do. Poor lady, I didn't know the problems she had. Some meds and alcohol don't go together, don't know if that affected both Nicola and Gaynors minds.

    The external and internal pressure on women to be perfect is at an all time high. This is not 'mental health challenges' in the usual sense. Instead of anxiety and self-doubt being something to 'snap out' of, you're not supposed to ever go there. I knew this as a very young adult when people would correct me when i showed any stress expressions in my face. Stop, that will make wrinkles or an ex-boyfriend urging me to unscrunch stress lines in my brow. Take care of 90% of things but don't boss, control, or show any signs of distress.

      Good point. There is pressure on women to be genial, people pleasing and not to express anger or dissatisfaction. And there is pressure on men to be strong and stoic. Neither are healthy. And there is the society we create around us, the values, the sharing of resources. We are all only here for a short time, and every time we impact negatively on another's brief sojourn here, it makes a difference. Or indeed when we impact positively.

    I think one of the main reasons why it is such a taboo is that it somehow can feel like foul play to others.doesn’t fit into the idea of men and women being heroic, also very much in religious contexts where to this day it’s regarded as a sin sometimes. makes many people feel more than uncomfortable.

      Isn't it also because of technology we can also actually see those on their way to die, either deliberately themselves, accidentally maybe from drinking, or murdered by another. We try and make sense, searching for any slight clue the camera may have caught, but all the while we are sort of trying to save them even though we know its too late.

  • @MrsGypsumFantastic
    @MrsGypsumFantastic 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

    I believe the coroners court need very explicit evidence before they rule a death is a result of self harm. Personally I think Nicola’s death was an accident, but I suspect her mind was busy, maybe anxious, perhaps some brain fog and that may have played a significant part in her accident. Gaynor’s death I think is more complex, it almost sounds like a manic episode. In both cases, the women were affected by health problems, which shouldn’t be swept under the carpet.

    • @TCRS
      @TCRS  วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Personally I think Nicola’s death was an accident,>>>How do you drown by accident? Drowning takes several minutes. Nicola wasn't a child, she could swim and the water wasn't deep or particularly fast moving. Also, most people in an accident situation would cry for help. If it was an accident you would expect to see skid or slip marks in the mud near the edge. That wasn't there either. The proper way to think about this is to list the evidence of an accident versus the evidence of something else. This is where the true hypocrisy lies. This is where all the psychological evidence is just dismissed and a subjective view [absent of any evidence] is suddenly elevated to evidence, when it simply isn't.

    The first serious seizure in some time is interesting. Anyone who liked the band Joy Division back in the day (love will Tear Us Apart band) will remember the sad death of the lead singer Ian Curtis. A big factor was thought to be - not the epilepsy itself - but the trials of living with an intrusive illness and the horrible side affects of medications that didn't have enough good affects, but plenty of side affects. And it tormented him. I would hope that treatments have improved since then, but I don't know. He wrote a song called 'She's Lost Control Again' about when he worked in a job centre before getting famous, and a client of his there who had a seizure, which tells you how he felt the illness affected his own life.

I don't know if she thought about going in there, its a lovely quiet spot but on the other side of the river is a fairly busy road. Always thought there was something more going on, she was involved in something or had discovered something. Couldn't ever understand about the supposed yoga pose in the park. But now, Nick talking about her phone and her photos in her final moments and recent epilepsy episode, it looks as if she was maybe in some kind of psychosis. Stuff I have been keeping in check is now square in my face screaming at me. I want it to stop. I want to sleep and not wake up. The most powerful thing one can do is accept what is. The truth hurts-- it may seem unbearable-- but that pain is temporary and it can usher in deep, profound understanding and healing. And with that comes transformative compassion for yourself-- compassion that takes the place of what was once fear/terror. Resisting what needs to be acknowledged and is desperately trying to be heard doesn't make it go away-- it only ensures the pain becomes victimizing suffering. But when we stop running and turn to face what already IS, we find ourselves-- and what we find is so much more beautiful than we can imagine when we're stuck in our broken down narratives.
      Take care of yourself. Listen for that soft, gentle inner wisdom. The road is there. You might as well walk it. My heart is with you.

    The coroner got it right under UK law. There has to be clear evidence of intent on that day at that moment. Recognising behaviours that may indicate it (wanting to be like Nicola, etc - itself a contentious case to draw assumption from!) is not the same as proof , it is subjective opinion in coroner court. Because it is balanced with other things - a history of erratic behaviours and a couple of incidences of mental disorder like having to be taken to hospital from a pub thinking aliens were after her. Plus, evidence from her husband who on being asked why he thought she was in that park said she'd watched a programme on cold water swimming and may, in a disordered state, have intended to do that. Relatives views on state of mind and intent are evidence in coroner's courts. We might have our own views (& I do, about this and Nicola) but I respect the Coroners Court need for actual proof and they were legally correct in calling it as death by misadventure. Coroner's aren't there to find on their gut feelings or opinions. Death by misadventure reflects the involvement of reckless, even life threatening behaviour being a factor.

    • @TCRS
      @TCRS  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Coroner's aren't there to find on their gut feelings or opinions.>>>I guess evidence to one person is "subjective opinion" to another.
      legally correct>>>>
      If someone says they want a similar result to Nicola Bulley, and we know what the end result was, and then, that's precisely what ends up happening, that's proof that she entered the water because she wanted to live? How is that logical or correct in any universe?

    • @Flowersofromance6-fs4pb
      @Flowersofromance6-fs4pb 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      On the night she had to be taken to hospital from a pub thinking aliens were after her - what if in her disordered mental state she'd jumped into a river, ran in front of traffic - would that have been S? The evidence is an accumulation of circumstances that certainly point to mental disintegration rather than what counts as evidence of intent to die under UK colonial law - I didn't write the legislation, it just is. As I say I have my own opinion based on probability, and it's similar to yours as it happens although I think chaotic thinking may have played a part also, but I recognise that it's not the coroner's role to apportion intent where it can't be demonstrated. They have to have an unambiguous COD and positive proof of hard intent.

      I don’t agree. Menopause can be and is tortuous for some women, including myself. We’re not fools. This is why women aren’t opening up about it because they can’t be seen as crazy.

      @@Cosmic-lover293 You make it seem like you are the only one that goes through it.Get a Grip! Millions of woman have been living with Menapause since the beginning of time. Myself included!

      @@cu4achat123 get a grip? What an awful thing to say. You have absolutely NO IDEA what I’ve been going through, and no I’m certainly not alone, and you shouldn’t assume I think so. I know a lot of women who are struggling with it. A lot of women are ignored. For you to say that is unhelpful and quite frankly disgusting!!!

      If you directly write the word (S… or unliving yourself) utube automatically deletes at times.
      Depending on the words used in our comments, the algorithm has trigger words that delete the comment. I hope this helps. It’s called sensorship.

      I have been trying to thank the two folks above for their words of support, and to say I'm okay now, and I keep getting deleted. Nick is right: certain subjects are taboo and we aren't supposed to talk about them. It seems ol' TH-cam is in agreement with that, and so part of the problem.
