    You could say you’re the caretaker of this record. You’ve always been the caretaker.

      That gives off 2 meanings now (The Shining, and The Caretakers use of this in A Stairway To The Stars - It's All Forgotten Now - The Caretaker)

    I am writing this on July 11th, 2024, as today is the 90th anniversary of this song's recording date (July 11th, 1934). Cheers to 90 years of this masterpiece!

    i have a couple of copies of this record 1 in unplayed condition found in a box (record store box) with original paper sleeve !! the guy i bought all his 78s from told me his grandfather used to run a record store from 1928 to 1955 and he collected (or should i say TOOK HOME) records unsold in store (left overs) for all that time !! eventually i bought his entire collection in 2017 and this is by far my fave record in the collection of round about 12,000 discs !!

    Stanley was lucky to have a crew member who knew of Al Bowly. The scenes that feature this and Midnight Stars and You were recorded without the music. It was edited in later. That’s what I read anyway.

    I think this is the 1935 repress, the original has "VE" at the top and bottom and "Orthophonic Recording" at the top, but either way, both pressings are rare and wonderful!

      Oh, interesting. I never saw that! I didn't know that they made a re-issue of this past 1934. It's great to have indeed, now I know though :) thank you!

      @@Oldtimemusiclover Yeah, thankfully it's still an original 30's Victor Scroll, and most likely repressed in the summer of 1935. (June or July). Either way, great record, you are a very skilled collector!

    Great find! I sometimes get rare blues 78s for a decent price. Not too cheap of course but not too expensive. I try to negotiate a lot. I found a papa Charlie Jackson and Leroy Carr 78 for decent prices. Thanks for sharing this!

    Is it okay to play the old shellac victrola records on a modern turntable, but with a 78 RPM stylus ??
    Or better to play them on my Victrola and change the needle after each song ??

    • @78s_TheArtists_AndTheHistory
      @78s_TheArtists_AndTheHistory 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      playing shellac records on a gramophone, even if you change the needle every time will wear them down eventually. it's best to play them on a modern turntable with a 78rpm 3mil stylus, the occasional spin on a phonograph won't hurt though.

    • @anthonyhfe6450
      @anthonyhfe6450 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@78s_TheArtists_AndTheHistory Thank you for responding. Okay so it's better to play them on a turntable with a 78 stylus. Thnx. I just didn't know they had a similar groove to a vinyl record.
      Since I have a lot of turntables, I'll just set one up for 78 rpm records, shellac or vinyl.
