Whenever I see someone dissing old ROMplers as being dated and practically unusable, I point them to LFOstore and tell them to go listen. They're like any other synthesizer. What it sounds like is mostly in the hands of the sound designer, and this and your M1 presets are some of the best proof of that out there.

korg 01w still an amazing sounding instrument...it is an m1 on steroids and with waveshaper, filter enphasis and advanced digital multi fx same as wavestation it can do a large spectra of sounds. It would be great the possibility to expand its internal sample content with 2 megs of pcm card, synth design card is a good option but best would be a custom cross with some X5 waves and wavestation/m1 selection, internal waveforms are good but there are some missing.
It's possible to write your own custom 2MB PCM expansion card with some old software and the correct blank card (very particular type), research forums online for info.
@@ShallRemainUnknown oh yes I know it's possible, I read in past also tutorials about but....too much complicated and maybe not so paramount for my needs, I like to mantain a certain degree of personality in every synth with its waveform content so I am not very interested in loading custom samples onto 01. ...It would be usefull instead to have a card able to switch to all Korg PCM cards, allowing to keep all patches from korg soundsets inside a single card set (something like M1 legacy).
@@kyma1999x Well, there's certainly something to be said about limiting yourself to factory internal PCM and using your time to sybthesize sounds with it, or rather just make music with presets. However, you seem to be talking out of two sides of your mouth if you're after Korg's PCM expansions! How exactly are Korg's "official" expansions any different than creating and burning your own custom PCM ROM? Even the preset patches that accompany those official PCM expansions are mostly or entirely created by contracted programmers for hire - the same ones that independently sell their own patches commercially - and not Korg's in-house employees. And if it's a matter of too much complexity in using an obscure homebrew solution to create and burn your own PCM, as you mention, then all you have to do is get a sampler, or even a hybrid synth/sampler, of the same or similar vintage as 01W (e.g. Kurzweil K2000 - most would say a superior synth to 01W, even sampling aside), to be able to natively and easily load your own samples.
@@ShallRemainUnknown yes I own three kurzweil k2000 and a pc3k, I own it since 1993 and had various of them in the past, also K2500 and 2600, I'm quite sure it would be my desert island synth. Having all korg pcm waves and relative programs inside a single card for me would be something more about collecting and historical perspective rather than a useful thing for making music, however when I record for other artists sometimes I use custom programmed patches or factory/cards material, if I find a good sound which is right for the track I use it without problem
@@kyma1999x Ha, kudos for admitting you're collecting! It seems that people are either collecting , or else making music , not both. Better to learn well and combine a small number of good synths than build unweildy assortments of patches you're detached from. If you can really learn the PC3 (the most complex hardware synth around), you'll have it made (mine are stored away now, along with K2/2500, to ease distractions - and 01W probably on chopping block after it's fixed).
