The soup looks absolutely delicious particularly with the extra cold temperatures we’ve been having on the East Coast this week. You’re one of the few channels that consistently shares creating meals with either all freeze dried ingredients or a mix of freeze dried and fresh, which is great. It’s made me be more creative about what I’m freeze-drying and cooking and since I’ve been watching your channel, my freeze dried “stash” has doubled in a matter of weeks 😍
@@KimMac17 thank you, Kim! This meal was SO good. Having freeze dried ingredients on hand offers many convenient options! What is something new to you that you’ve recently FD?
@@abcHomestead After watching your freeze-dried soup lunch video, I decided to freeze-dry a variety of ingredients, including bean sprouts, bok choy, onions, ginger, celery, green onions, chicken bits, and broth, in addition to zucchini, carrots, mushrooms, and broccoli I had already done earlier in the year. Now I can quickly make that soup on a regular basis! I also now have freeze-dried pickled beets as a regular snack-they’re delicious! Inspired by your freeze-dried pumpkin pie video, I freeze-dried all of the leftover desserts I had from the holidays, including pumpkin pie, apple pie, rhubarb cream cheese bars, etc. I lighlyly blended each them up and scooped into balls before freeze-drying and now I crumble them into my oatmeal or yogurt instead of buying granola. It tastes absolutely incredible, and it feels great not wasting those homemade desserts. And it's actually not that many calories since I only need to use a small amount to a impart a very great flavor. that got me started on freeze-drying leftovers in general, which I never considered before-things like leftover meatballs, which i chop up small and eat as a snack or leftover stuffing on top of casseroles. I use lots of FD leftover veggie side dishes, almost as croutons, adds a nice crunch on top of my salads. I have decent freezer space so anytime I have leftovers that I know I'm not going to eat soon enough. I just add them to my "leftover" freeze dryer tray that I keep in the freezer and I just run it when it's full with whatever else I happen to be running. Thank you for the inspiration!
@KimMac17 that all sounds wonderful! I was actually brainstorming tonight on a freeze dried treat using my cherries. I think im going to try tart cherries rolled in cocoa powder and then dipped in a simple syrup. I know freeze dried yogurt is just too fragile as a coating, and chocolate won’t freeze dry, but perhaps a lite simple syrup would harden enough to hold the cocoa powder on. How did the stuffing turn out after freeze drying?
@ the cherries definitely sound worth trying just do a couple and see how they turn out. i’d be very interested to know the results. The stuffing was OK. out of everything I did It was my least favorite, but I still liked it. by the way, I forgot to mention one of my favorite things that I snack on now and it’s the leftover falafel‘s from the recipe I got from one of your videos. I cut them into small pieces before I put them in the freeze dryer and that is a very yummy snack and you get all the nutritional benefits of the falafel. sometimes I add it almost like croutons to a salad and sometimes I just eat them for a small high protein snack.
This is THE best soup I have made in a long time. It was a BIG hit and hearty enough to stand on its own as a meal!
