    I wonder if they thought the magnetism would interfere with your pickups??

    The screws from the Fender kit and the Squier kit are not interchangeable, they are different thread patterns. The Squier screws are good for Squier necks (mine are Classic Vibe 50 and Classic Vibe 60). However the CV screws did not work on my original Fender 1965 Strat neck, I had to use the Fender kit that you show in the video.

      Yes, the classic vibe screws are much thicker. Most replace a classic vibe neck plate with other plates. Simply put a wooden match stick with some wood glue in the hole and put in the standard Fender screws to fix this issue.

      @@customshopdesigned4468 I'm swapping a Squier plate with an "F" plate, on a Squier body, albeit with a Fender Japan neck, if the screws are glued in like you suggest, does that make it impossible to screw them in and out for truss rod adjustment?

      @@customshopdesigned4468 steel recycling and aluminum go right to China and the US tax payer pays freight. Yep they get free metal, we pay to get it there and pay to buy it back. The US doesn't have metals recycling plants because the EPA wont allow them. Our county got rid of recycling for that reason. Our recycling program almost bankrupted our county.

    What about plain neck plates?

    • @customshopdesigned4468
      @customshopdesigned4468  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Blank Fender plates, made in the USA are magnetic, as are three bolt70s F style plates. The Fender plates measure about 1.8 or 1.75MM thick. Custom shop plates are thicker at 2mm

  • @Serenityindailylife

    • @ryanstark2350

      That's a good point that many people forget. Non magnetic doesn't mean pot metal. That includes various other parts. Normal steel is fine though. It's very strong and hard.

    What i'll need extra for put to Squier Classic Vibe the neck plate with the old Fender "f"?

    • @customshopdesigned4468
      @customshopdesigned4468  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The screws on the classic vibes are very thick. You want to put wooden match sticks (break them off) and wood glue in the holes before you place these standard USA spec screws in for a perfect fit.

  • @Patbwoy

    Are these all the same size? The Squier kinda look a little larger, so might not fit standard holes. But it might just be an optical illusion...

    • @customshopdesigned4468
      @customshopdesigned4468  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The hole spacing is the same for every plate; however, the squire plates come with very large Chinese screws. Standard Fender screws are #8 Phillips oval head at 1 3/4" long. Most people plug the screw holes on the Squiers with wooden match sticks/ or dowel and wood glue to ensure a very snug fit.

    If you want to place the plate with the old "f" to a Squier Classic Vibe, would it work?

    • @customshopdesigned4468
      @customshopdesigned4468  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the hole spacing will line up. Please note that the USA Fender screws are a bit thinner than the Chinese screws. This goes for most Chinese made guitar neck plates - they have huge screws with a large diameter head. The USA specs are Phillips oval head #8 at 1 3/4" in length. Simply place a wooden match stick with some wood glue into the holes to ensure a tight fight when you swap it out. Also note the Fender F plate is thinner (about 1.75mm) vs the 2mm thick Classic vibe plate. The ones I sell are 2mm think. Thanks!

    What are the noticable benefits of it (on a CS strat)? do you make also contour heel version? Thanks

    • @customshopdesigned4468
      @customshopdesigned4468  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately I don't do the contour heel version. As far as benefits I think the aesthetics are what people are after. I was surprised the Fender Custom Shop neck plate was a pot metal. Zinc is often alloyed with other metals including lead, tin, aluminium, and copper to keep costs down with a pot metal.

  • @cincinattiblues
    @cincinattiblues 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Reason no magnatism, is more likely to bethey are a type of stainless steel, not all stainless steels are magnetic. its not some cheap alloy pot metal.

    • @customshopdesigned4468
      @customshopdesigned4468  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Austenitic stainless steels usually are not magnetic. The metallic atoms in an austenitic stainless steel are arranged on a face-centered cubic (fcc) lattice. Alloying the stainless steel with elements such as nickel, manganese, carbon and nitrogen increases the likelihood that the alloy will possess the fcc crystal structure at room temperature and not be magnetic. Interesting stuff!

    33.3% of your fundamental tone comes directly from your neck plate. Choose wisely or else your tone will be muddy and thin, the worst of both worlds.

    Does a higher density neck plate improve the guitar tone? If yes, in what way?

    • @customshopdesigned4468
      @customshopdesigned4468  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well density does impact tone. Think of all the different tone woods out there; however, I don't think a neck plate would impact tone at any noticeable level to the human ear. Just a thicker stronger plate, but mostly people buy for the look - that's all -thanks!

    • @clintongallagher
      @clintongallagher 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The neck plate has LITTLE TO NOTHING to do with tone. Its purely aesthetic and has some structural properties to resist pull-out structureal shear forces.
      Some plates are thicker (denser) than others only because the manufacturers want extra pull-through shear force resistance at the head of the screws.
