I really hope you reconsider incorporating your new country location into your video series. I just feel it's a missed opportunity to expand the channel and offer new content regarding settling into a new country & city. With your Brazilian background, I assumed that maybe you & your family moved to Portugal, which personally I would be extremely interested in finding out more info about, especially since English is more prevalent than Italy and has cheaper taxes etc. Maybe just keep your particular city vague for privacy reasons if you feel that is needed. (I guess I just find it incredibly strange and hard to comprehend that you would even have any stalking & threats due to your channel content aimed at the advice/pros/cons of living abroad.) Anyway, thank you for the immense amount of info you have given over the years about relocating to Italy. I am currently in the process of my jure sanguinis and your info has been invaluable in many ways. You have really helped open my eyes to many realities of Italian expat life.
One week on, Rafael mentions that he's exhausted, which could mean jet lag resulting from a move to another continent and this would exclude Portugal. So perhaps it's Panama or Brazil and not USA, hopefully. Just guessing, of course -- but then again, the haircut looks American.
I hope you will consider moving back to Rovigo some day. I did enjoy my visit there earlier this week and was sad that I didn't get the chance to run into you. Thank you for continuing with your informative videos, they are extremely helpful. Happy Holidays to you and your family.
Rafi!!!...So happy to see you and that you are doing well. Our hearts were breaking for you last week but we're happy to share "another beautiful Friday night" with you in your new home.
Hi Rafael i hope you are happy with your move. A really interesting video as always some good tips on moving. I love your videos on Italy. Looking forward to more. Thank you
Just catching up on this one. Between your channel and the Rovigo rugby team, the city did make my list of places to check out. Might start with a day trip next time I'm in IT to catch a rugby match. Unfortunately I've got no easy way to citizenship other than the guaranteed income of a US retiree. I don't need a place with 800K+ population like I have now but I would prefer a place where you can do without a car.
Hi Rafael!! Loving all your content!! So raw and illuminating also as Italian! ^^ as always, sometimes it hits to hear about realities that still exist. Like, as you mentioned there's some deep-seated racism and nationalism in some parts of the north (but also some less educated parts in the south..), that is also re-inforced by some local parties (in Veneto you must have heard of "Lega" LOL). Unfortunately this is still a reality, but I hope my country will move forward from this regressive mentality. Very sad how you've been mistreated.. but is very good to talk about it and show the pretty and not-so-pretty sides together!! Thanks so much for sharing your experience and good luck for the future!
@@carolmerlini9971 oh my God AHAHAHAH last thing I expected was to attract die-hard Lega fanboys.. if it were for Lega we would be in the same conditions as Bulgaria today still with thousands of deaths daily. Guess what? Our situation is way different now and yes, I do enjoy to keep the country open and the business running if it were only for that minimal setback
Also, there is a HUGE and BIG myth that Italians are super warm. No, Italians are expressive. There is a difference. Italians are wonderful and communicative and always searching ... Italy is a little uptight but always full of expressiveness.
Thanks for this thoughtful look back at Rovigo. If I pursue JS - I will come to Rovigo because I will want the assistance of Marco’s firm. I wouldn't expect to settle there permanently. This Fall I've been more ambivalent about doing this. Because I don't see any less confusion in the next year...also with COVID Staffing, some essential US Docs I've ordered may not be produced for 6 months...many Docs I have, need amended...I'm guessing at least another year to get them all in order. Everything is just too chaotic now to make long- term plans. Glad you've taken the next steps in YOUR Life!
Glad your move went well. Wherever you are is fine. Maybe hang a generic picture or graphic or "T' shirts on the wall. The rear wall is really boring now!!!
All the best … I concur..please let us know where you landed and pick up from there…I have been considering your PATREON Chanel and waiting to see where you landed. Love your channel…-Steven Garofalo
When you return to Italy, will you be doing vlogs in the municipalities or comuni that your ancestors emigrated from? I am looking forward to going to a few places in Campania and Trentino solely because they are were my family came from. I wonder if Rovigo is growing in popularity because properties near Venice are losing residential appeal, for whatever reason? Regarding being single as an immigrant in a small city, large cities come with their own set of challenges! When my grandmother was still living, she would become incredulous as to why I was still single in my city of 8 million people. Understanding that, I met my partner when I wasn't actively looking for one, in real life, and not on an app. I am surprised you are pegged as an American abroad. I find that I, personally, am often pigeonholded by archaic stereotypes regarding height. Until I speak, people in Italy assume I am Northern (because I am pretty tall for a cis-woman). When I reveal my accent, many people assume I am Canadian.
I love that part of Italy! Great video. However, Italians treat Brazilians like people from Eastern Europe. There is a little more of a feeling of superiority from Italians in regards to Brazilians. Either way, you are honest to be upfront about it.
I think this is a double-edged sword: as much as I feel warm and fuzzy when I hear positive comments about my country, I also feel like a realistic view is a more healthy approach. Also because I know the many flaws that my country still has and the not romantic or pretty aspects of it. Balance is always key ;)
Ciao Rafael! Io personalmente ti percepisco come una persona che si sentirebbe meglio a vivere in centro Italia . Per come ti conosco ( e ti conosco pochissimo ma ti seguo da tanto) Firenze sarebbe un posto giusto
I think he met a foreigner in Italy and moved to that person's country. I do not think it is the USA. Anyone who would go back there during these times is not thinking straight and I have to give Rafael more credit than that. Also he gives a clue when he says he is comparing where he lives now with where he lived in Italy. This means it's not an American culture. He is someplace else.
SO true! We listened to your same advice in the summer to test a place for a longer period before moving. Did this with my wife in Florence this summer for one month. Came back to Austria asap after that. The amore faded pretty quickly. We still love Italy and will visit and try other places like Verona - it was better for a small test and we will test that in the future for one month also to see how it goes.
Perhaps he is in the United Kingdom. He interviewed a man from the UK several weeks ago. Whatever country he is in....I wish he was still in Italy. Rome next time! Anyway....good luck!!😊
I spend a few months each year in Italy. My house is in Sicily but I prefer Rome. In my experience Italians treat Americans differently. Oh, you’re American? Is it true you make $1mill/day? That mentality allows them to also steal from you. 1000 euros to you is nothing, you won’t miss it.
So, a cuestión,he moved with his family rigth, that's what hi said in the " living Italy" video, becouse after 5 years in the country, they didn't speake Italian and they feel far remove from the comunity, also the health scare. How can you not speake a lenguaje after 5 years of living there.
It’s possible to speak enough to get by on a day to day basis, but once serious matters like healthcare arise, that really brings ‘foreigness’ home to roost.

The food in Portugal would be a huge downer after living in Italy for so long.

At 6:40 you use a term that sounds like "pokè place"; what is that?
Imagine sushi, but in a bowl rather than a roll… a little different though. Hawaiian in origin
Poke Bowl is what to look for on google

Good advice, i think a lot of people have a romantic idea of what moving to Italy will be like and often those expectations aren’t met.

You can speak a language without being fluent. Your native language will always be your most comfortable language ;)

Sells shirts that’s it im moving to Italy, leaves Italy himself 😅
Ok. So is it a secret what country you are now In? Where are you Rafael???
I think alot of us who follow him are wondering this
For some reason I thought he was moving back to the USA. Now I'm very curious.
@@yolieslife1111 I had thought so as well but now not so sure where he landed
I'm wondering as well.. 🤔
It is either northeast Italy which he said he was moving out of. Therefore I think it’s the tip of Algeria not to far from Italy
