I'm 57 and have spent 50 years loving ABBA and their music.
The BEST group of pop of the century
Of history
I was feeling down so the doctor told me to take two ABBA songs every day 🐈⬛🐈🫂♥️
I am 56. I liked ABBA as a kid and I like ABBA as an adult.
Same here james but I’m 70 and I still like ABBA’s music…a lot! It just never gets old.
Same age but was no fan of them at the time. But, thanks to youtube mostly, I adore these guys!
56 year old guy here ❤ amen to that !!
When ABBA won Eurovision in 1974 I was working in Germany as a volunteer in Bremer Landesbank. The year before I came from my homeland Denmark and always been a great ESC fan as long as I remember..
I did not earn much, had no TV…. What to do ? Luckily some of my colleagues invited me to watch the Eurovision at their home. There we were perhaps 8 or 10 people staring at a very small black and white TV.
Best memories of an Eurovision ever ❤
Nice story
Frida has one of the most soothing, relaxing voices I've ever heard, it's like an angel pouring honey into your ear.
So hard to believe it's been 50 years. Whenever ABBA pops up in the news, I keep thinking of the verse in Super Trooper where Frida sings "Part of a success that never ends" Bjorn couldn't have come up with a more prophetic line.
Учите , Русский язык ! И все в жизни будет хорошо!😁🥳✌👋
never ends and never will end
Do you mean Super Trouper?
@@Rezaal Yes, but my spell checker meant Trooper.
@@user-hy8wo2xu5c Pravda.
I'm 63 yo, love Led Zeppelin, the Eagles, Lynyrd skynyrd etc, from the golden era of rock music, but my god, the stuff that abba churned out over 8 /9 years was only equaled by the beatles.
I seem to always get a tear in the corner of my eye when I think how empty "today's" music is compared to ABBA's artistry.
🙈🙉🙊 😎 🇺🇸
Yes, me too, and the downhill slide continues.
What, new music is actually being made these days?? 😂
Still waiting for the ultimate ABBA documentary. And this one isn't it.
To do the band justice, you'd need to make it 10 parts (similar to the Beatles' Anthology) where each episode focuses on
a different year in the band's career. And the sooner we get to see this, the better, because ABBA won't be around forever...
Yes, love this idea.
The doc slips here and there for accuracy, repeated images, uneven sound editing - and the needless Nazi footage, come ON -, but in all gives a sense of what this group has managed to do in 50 years, while being there making us drool for the next single and when not, during the decades of nostalgy prior to the Voyage unbelievable comeback. They've never left us, and here are some reasons why. Basically, it's good music for the good timed from nice people.
I almost cried watching this video. I am 33 years old, I live in Bogotá and I an authentic ABBA fan.
I went to see the copycat band called Bjorn Again and I almost believed it was the original musical quartet from Sweden 🇸🇪 ABBA!! Sincerely yours, DJP Boston Massachusetts Amerikkka quite literally ❤
John Tobler, is incorrect saying that Frida's father was a Nazi, he was enlisted in the German Army, like many other German citizens in WW2
right, and probably he had no choice
This assertation that Frida's father was a nazi seems to be one of the favourite hoaxes of some people. It's a lie but they continue to spread it in every ABBA documentation.
Right??? He wasn't!
Right on! terrible jarring clip. "Poor girl impregnated" what is that shorthand for? Yes, a tragic romance but noting like portrayed by him.
In WW2 in Germany > Every Young Male German ( Not of Jewish Blood.) was made to enlist in Military & in schools they trained then at very young ages to be ready for this military service. They encouraged & rather forced them tk get married & rewarded them for it & having more kids gave them more 💰 & privileges.
Anyone talking bad about this process or not liking being forced to do it was imprisoned or punished badly, some way.
The average German citizen was afraid all the time. Therefore, A NAZI was not every German citizen or soldier.
As a nurse I cared for a A old former German Soldier & he told me his personal story in tears. He had it typed up to become a book & asked me to read it to him. He would stop me throughout reading it & explain things not in the story. ❤❤❤
Bjorn did not leave the hootenanny singers in 1969 as this documentary suggests. He was still recording material with them as late as 1972 after ABBA was being formed.
ABBA is a part of my life, born 1965
Today I found ABBA 🎉
I was one of the lucky people who got to see them live live in Australia around 1976, I had a crush on Agnetha and so I badgered my parents to see the concert, 3rd row seats, I was 10 years old and can't remember a thing about it.
They were in touch and collabing more than people think after the split, theres videos on yt, its really nice they all remained friends forever
In 1974, when I was eight years old, I pressed the REC button in front of my parents' TV.
I've told everyone to be quiet during Waterloo, but in the middle of the song, my little brother shouted "Hon trampa på sladden" (in english "She stept on the microphone cable"). It's kind of funny that I still remembers this event and the cassette tape is now lost.
This doco rehashes a story that has itself been run into the ground, along with often-repeated inaccuracies. It's ok for people who don't know the ABBA "story", but really, the most fascinating thing about ABBA is that they're an anomaly - they stand alone.
Yes it’s just a rehash of The story of ABBA from 1982
?
Yes, although some new footage and interviews? At least some i haven't seen. Tobler was bad.
Frida never participated in the Eurovision Song Contest as a solo artist. In 1969 she was 4th in Melodifestivalen 1969, the contest for the selection of the Swedish entry at Eurovision
I don’t even see that she came 4th in Melodifestivalen… poor research for this video.
@@Colin-Fenix Perhaps you should try to check it up yourself?

Lasse Hallström made all their videos in the 70 and 80 except the two last
I still remember watching ABBA winning the Eurovision in 1974, lived outside Stockholm back then, 5 year old terror....Glasgow these days! 🇸🇪❤️🏴
Great move my man !!!
Always have loved ABBA music!!! Best group of all times. I'm 69 now and can listen to ABBA all day long!!!!!
… and know the lyrics to every song I bet ! 😊
That was both wonderful and so heartwarming.
❤🎉 interesting interviews & insightful commentary by Paul Gambaccini. Their timeless music has over 50 yrs transcended several generations. And they still sound great together on the latest album.
Thank you for making this video. I saw Voyage with my wife last year. Worth every dime and a flight all the way from Denver.
67 years old now 🥰
OH how I love this group ❤❤❤❤
Their success on the charts lasted a lot longer than five years. Even in the United States Waterloo was a hit and ABBA’s Greatest Hits was huge seller in the states, especially in the state of Alaska where I lived at the time.
In 1974 Not too many people were attracted much by music from 1924 so times have changed big time and the sixties to maybe 80‘s will be seen as the peak time of modern music in the upcoming decades maybe even centuries. Todays music unfortunately will not have this long lasting effect.. it already stopped in the nineties. Here and there are exceptions but overall it’s going strongly downhill in the sense of originality and impact. It’s all a bit instant.. today great forgotten tomorrow…
I think your last statement is right on.
👍
What an astonishing, breathtaking, talented, unique group they are.....unbelievable. 🤩 And what a lovely report this is, that portraits the story of that fantastic group. 😁
Thank you for the music

What a lovely program! Thank you!
We want ABBA, we want ABBA. Very proud to be a Swede.
It's incredible that almost 50 years after Waterloo they have a tremendous success with ABBA Voyage. They had immense vision and were pioneers in believing in what technology could do. They never could expect that
Eh bien moi je n'hésite pas à parler de génie au sujet d'ABBA ! ❤❤❤❤
"At least sufficient talent"? Is Paul Gambaccini serious?! B&B are two of the all-time songwriting greats.
Memories or watching Molly Meldrum and "Countdown" on ABC Australia TV, and how he broke ABBA in Australia and around the world....
The Winner takes It All is a really great song; my favourite.

Oh my goodness this was truly FANTASTIC thankyou so very much ❤

Loved their music
❤Danke! Thank you for the Story of ABBAs 50 th birthday😊🎉
Anni-Frid and Agnetha were the original pop divas. Think about it, before ABBA, there were no divas.
Great down to earth people with a wonderful gift ❤🎶❤🎵❤🎶❤

21:00 these Is cleaver
how biggest aré ABBA in world pop music
This is a nice refreshing video, with some new or not so seen video clips and pictures, and different interviews from some different people from the ones we are used to hearing from. Like John Tobler. Interesting. However I think there are some inaccuracies at some moment. I assume the angle that everything is seen from is the British charts, when they speak about hits, and Money Money Money was not a number one, contrary to what is said here. Not in the UK, where it reached number 3. And Agnetha and Bjorn did not get divorced at the end of 1978, as far as has always been said so far. It was in 1980. But still a very nice documentary which is still interesting for die-hard fans who thought they had seen all there is to see of ABBA. And lovely high-resolution pictures included too. Very appreciated. Thanks!!🎉😊
Yes It wasn't MMM in UK that was no1 (though it was no1 in other markets and huge in Germany) but it was its follower 'Knowing me.." the big no1 hit in UK after DQ there.
Also A+B got officially divorced in mid '80 but They had stopped living togetger since Dec.'78
I liked it,it was heartwarming wasn't it?

Watching the last "stars" on Eurovision today and the absence of music compared to what it was is depressing.
❤❤❤❤

Нет???????? Давайте жить ближе ! Давайте жить дружно !!!@ И все мы друг друга поймем!!!! Счастья , здоровья и всех благ ! ❤
Benny and Björn made a lot of money on Hasta Manna. It was the B side of You Light Up My Life, one of the best selling singles of all time.
🤩🥰
What a strange documentary. It’s all over the place, disjointed and some dreadful audio in parts. Quite amateurish really. How disappointing!
6 April 2024: the magic date approaches. #Waterloo50
Abba are amazing, of course and I loved clips of them. Paul Gambaccini is wonderful. Tobler and his onerous nazi comments was terrible. A number of inaccuracies including mistaking Bjorn for Benny and saying Money,Money,Money was number 1 (in UK) when it wasn't - it was "Knowing Me, Knowing you". Money, Money, Money was no.3. While seeing previously unavailable footage was great for me as a fan I can see this has not been passed by Abba and Tobler's comments and the Nazi footage are unforgiveable.
❤
A fair attempt that falls short in many ways. The video and audio quality is so variable to make this seem like a very amateur effort. Information-wise, again not as well-researched as it could have been, considering how much accurate information is out there. Paul Gambaccini's enthusiasm is infectious and he at least has some interesting contributions. The jump to One of Us after Take a Chance on me can only be there to check if we're still paying attention, surely!
It's a pity this documentary is so boring to watch. I really love Abba.
Nice documentary, but I find it unforgivable not to mention Michael B. Tretow. He was the real fifth member; without him, the Abba sound would have never been the same
Спасибо , мой друг , за здерженный комментарий ! Здравствуй и всех благ ! ❤
abbadabbadoo
I appreciated the documentary but too much playing one line of a song then back to talking to the same two guys.
Dancing Queen must be a hard song to sing as it is a 3 octave song
This is just a rehash of the Story of ABBA from 1982
Apparently, Björn and Benny took their "inspiration" for Waterloo from Wizzard's "See my baby jive."
They did vacuous pop songs but the music was pretty catchy and the girls were hot. They were much better than the industrially produced pop music of today. They were much better than disco.
So-so overview of Abba's career. Some songs appear in wrong order ('One of us' & 'Under attack' before 'Winner takes it all'). Also, not mentioned is fact that the follow-up singles to 'Waterloo' failed to chart & it looked like they might be another European one-hit wonder act (like Los Bravos, Shocking Blue, etc.) before 'Mamma Mia' became their breakthrough hit. One other thing: narrator states none of their records got to no.1 in America, but 'Dancing Queen' did.
when the world was not ruled by computers fffffffffffff wish we could return and make again the juice of positive vibrations
Ven är Anna som Stickan pratar om 10:55 in i filmen??// Who is Anna that Stickan talkes about at 10:55 into the clip?
It’s Agnetha, he’s referring to how a lot of people refer to Agnetha as Anna.
Agnetha always had a back up plan if music didn't work out.
She could always go back to flying the J37 Drakken.
Isn't she afraid to fly?
@@jamesswain2465 Her fear of flying was a rouse. To make her aviation enemy's underestimate her flying capabilities.

9:36 In-stig-ation 😂
I would watch this now for Abba and Paul Gambaccini. I wish I could edit and delete all the rest.
" An intimate look into their post-ABBA era, navigating solo careers and the resurgence brought by the ABBA Gold era", well it really doesn't live up to its statement. The First 39 minutes basically tells a rough story of the groups formation and successes, rounding up the ABBA years it skips to Chess, Mamma Mia, and Voyage. Between 1982 and 2021 the ABBA members actually did a hell of a lot more in their solo careers. Disappointing.
Did Bjorn just say Fu*ck at 43:53 ??
Yes he did and the subtitles replaced it with Damm, cute
I guess no one checked things like licensing: it is POLAR MUSIC, not "POPLAR MUSIC". It is a small thing but really sloppy production.
At the end of Abba in 1982 watching the Noel Edmunds interview with Abba who I love and have always had the only 1 who I thought was I need to go away from Abba was Frida.
That's why today why I'm confused with Fridas 4th visit to Voyage today
What are you trying to say?
Funny how they jumped ahead to the "end" of ABBA with Frida looking pretty gloom there .... Knowing Me Knowing You was just a blip skipped over and totally missing was the massive hit The Name of the Game! Mmmm, gggrrr !! I LOVE When All Is Said and Done, but that "not too old for sex" has always made me cringe, okay just a bit, 😂... Damned, taking that "break" to write Chess and not to return to ABBA for sooo long! 😪😪 ...
Not a single word about Michael B Tretow???
I love Abba but I'm calling bullshit on this statement. 28:52 The Beatles were the FIRST to make promotional music videos. Paperback writer was filmed so that they didn't have to go to The Ed Sullivan Show in person. They also filmed 30 second into spot for it saying Hello to Sullivan and introducing the music video th-cam.com/video/yYvkICbTZIQ/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=TheBeatlesVEVO
wrong they did not do it to the quality of what aba music videos became also abba were the first on tv with videos before mtv also there videos were the first ones that told a story and not just like they were just performing the song
They had so much money they didn't need to tour! 😜
Horrible audio. Unclear and soft. Basically unitelligble. Too bad, I love ABBA
Easy to speak Swedish tuck tak tik tok❤❤🎉🎉😂😂😊
🇸🇪 ᗅᗺᗷᗅ 🇸🇪
ABBA were phenomenal in their time - but to argue they were "much better than the Beatles" ist kind of blasphemie
All bands can be criticised including Abba and also the most overrated band of all times; the Beatles. They are all human although John Lennon said that they were bigger than Jesus if you want to talk about blasphemy
@@michaelcrombach4062haha👍 .. so wasn't he right?? 😄
wrong opinion abba music can be played in all walks of life funerals weddings clubs etc
It's Björn, not Bjorn, ö is completely different from o, it looks different and is pronounced different, and is the last letter in the Swedish alphabet.
Saying Bjorn is like saying Lech Wałęsa like Lech Walesa.
Do some reseach, it's not that hard
I hate Paul Gambucini.
Way too much of him in this documentary.
Why?
