  • Few bands have been able to dominate the industry in the same way as ABBA. Bursting onto the scene at the 1974 Eurovision song contest, ABBA took the world by storm, going on to sell over 300 million albums and singles and gave birth to the billion-dollar franchise, Mamma Mia.
    But their fame didn’t come without pain.
    Behind their lyrics were honest signs of true heartbreak.
    Since announcing their break in 1982, ABBA have continued to welcome new fans, generation after generation.
    Follow their journey to celebrity stardom, through archival interviews and performances from ABBA, with added inside knowledge from leading industry professionals.

    Just four people but they left a mark on at least 5 generations. From boomers to millennials and more youngsters coming along. Their music is timeless.

      Gen X here and I got into them at age 7 when Waterloo came on the radio. Seeing them on American bandstand in 1975, made me obsessed with them.

    Talking about the two divorces, even the cover of The Visitors album pictured them as detached or disconnected. Separating themselves from each other. They were no longer lovers, maybe not even close friends anymore, which was unbearably sad.
    I grew up on ABBA and was so torn up when they stopped making music together in 1982. Thus 2021’s Voyage, recorded after 40 years apart and when the world really needed something positive, or “happyfying” as I call it, ABBA’s Voyage did just that. They saved us.

      Absolutely❣
      ABBA fan right from the start - I was 5. Then, in my late teens I sang in a church choir. Our role model was a Swedish choir that had taken the classic gospel into the "white" world, even travelled to Gothenburg for their 20th anniversary. Later I managed to order one of their records from the UK to Germany. It had safely arrived - until I almost dropped it, reading the sound mixer's name: Mikael Tretov 😲😇 May he be granted many many years, he is a blessing to humankind, as sound heals.

    I'm sorry to say it's not a very good documentary. It's full of factual errors and the sound quality of the old interview clips is horrific. These days it's quite easy to enhance the sound of old film clips, which would have made the watching experience much better.

      Even the title is wrong. Super trouper. Not Super Troupe. So it is no surprise if the facts are not checked properly.

      The guys got a little more for lyric rights but all did well. Frida sold her rights to polar music very early on before they lost lots of money through bad investments by Stig so her shares were almost double what the others got when they sold later on and polar was down and out.she also had the best solo career with her great Frida ensam album and her somethings going on album which sold 2 million copies. She is a super savvy business woman and the richest of them all with 350 million. Agnetha has about 200 million. Benny and Bjorn both around 250 million. All did well

    THEY ACTUALLY HAVE SOLD CLOSE TO 600 MILLION ALBUMS AND SINGLES, PLEASE CORRECT THIS HUGE MISTAKE

    • @MarioDruet
      @MarioDruet 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Untrue. There is a difference between "album sales" and "record sales". It is in record sales that we calculate and Abba arrives at 400 million units (including albums, singles, CDs, DVDs, etc.). Universal announced in 2004 that the group had sold 365 million records and since then, Abba has sold (again according to Universal) approximately 2,500,000 records per year, plus 2,500,000 copies of Voyage. I've been a fan since the beginning of the group, there are no 600 million albums sold.
