      You do know this fight they modeled from is not what happened. when he fell in the ground I dropped in and fought with my lightsaber with rocks stabbing him from the back. the other iteration is I have him climb out after falling and ragdoll him against the canyon whilst dueling making him sleep close to death. I only allowed this iteration for the show.

    I commend the acting of Ewan and Hayden. I thought some of Hayden's acting was awkward in the prequels, especially in scenes with Padme. He is Vader though and he owned it in this series. He did not have very many scenes, but this final one was a masterpiece.

    • @davepresley4689
      @davepresley4689 2 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      But there's one thing I always notice about Hayden in the prequels and hear me out, whenever he isn't talking he's perfect, it's just when he has to say those terribly written and awkward lines that he struggled, and true maybe a better actor could have made it work but if you give him a good script he's the perfect choice in my opinion

      It's amazing to see so many emotions he conveys from his eye only, under the crack of his mask. Either he's secretly a very briliant actor or he's indeed love his role as Vader/Anakin so much.

      @@davepresley4689 I completely agree. The prequel cast was full of talented actors who have been great in other movies. It came down to Lucas, a terrific ideas man and universe builder, writing and directing with much less collaboration than the OT. The least criticized SW movie, Empire Strikes Back, wasn’t directed by him.
      I think it takes talented and collaborative writers and actor-focused directors to take these stories and allow the characters to really shine. Clearly Hayden and Ewan are great actors, and Reva’s actor is too but her character wasn’t written as well as the others. I’m excited to see that actor in other roles.

    Okay second time’s the charm. Obi-wan and Ahsoka taking the left and right of Vader’s helmet violently.
    Which contrast Luke taking the entire helmet off peacefully. I like these small details. Which to me shows Luke truly redeemed Vader and was the only being(aside from maybe Leia) that could do so. They represented the past which he heavily resents while Luke is the future. Reva would normally wipe the floor with Owen and Beru. But she just had a lightsaber plunged through her body and she is lucky it did not strike a vital organ and that lightsabers cauterize the wounds. She barely uses the force and when she did it was barely a swipe to knock the water out of the man's hand. She is likely using all her force power to just remain standing after the wound she suffered. The wound would also mean she is not as physically able to fight as she normally would. Thus Owen and Beru are able to mount some sort of defense. As for Owen missing the first shot, it looks like he hit her shoulder pauldron. It almost seemed like Reva sensed it and moved so it hit her shoulder pauldron instead of her head.

    • @Lakrimoz
      @Lakrimoz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lightsabers melt through reinforced blaster proof doors - so if by cauterize the wound you mean instantly boil her internal organs then yes, her survival and subsequent ability to travel, fight and carry a young boy for a few km's is very "lucky" indeed.

    • @s.anthonyulibarri2488
      @s.anthonyulibarri2488 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Lakrimoz Light sabers heat is concentrated in the blade. Otherwise the lightsabers would have lit Qui-gons hair on fire when he assumes the lightsaber form Ataru. Not to mention the amount of times they would have their flesh burnt to a crisp in some of the scenes where they lock sabers.
      -
      As far as I know, there has never been any indication that a lightsaber would do as you say.
      -
      This reply is not to mock you, as what you commented makes sense in reality. But this is a fictional story and we honestly do not know how the lightsabers work exactly, but lightsabers never seem to radiate heat and it all seems to be contained within the narrow beam of the blade. Qui-gon even has to work the blade while melting the blaster doors and it took some time for the metal to heat up and spread beyond the point of the lightsaber blade.
      -
      This is not the first time we have seen people survive being stabbed by a lightsaber.

    • @Lakrimoz
      @Lakrimoz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@s.anthonyulibarri2488 No - It usually only takes one stab to kill with lightsabers to the mid-section, this is well noted. Not sure who we've seen survive that, happy for a reference if you have one. Look at Sidious when the Jedi arrive to arrest him - he stabs and strike them down with single blows. Maul maybe - but he gets sliced quickly, and he isn't human.
      Go watch that Qui-gon door scene again - he works it a bit by twisting, but ultimately it shows that if you hold a blade in place that heat exponentially increases. There is literally glowing molten metal around the blase from the second its inserted, now imagine that was liquid and flesh with a much lower flash point. Her insides would be a BBQ. Darth holds the blade inside Reeva for quite a while too, he skewers her entirely and holds it there for a good 5 seconds.
      And even if it didn't radiate heat, even if it "cauterized" the wound (reality is cauterization isn't a pressure seal, moving around would be agonizing and tear the scar tissue), you'd have a literal hole through your body - you aint walking around after that.
      Sure its all fiction, and i'm willing to suspend my disbelief to a degree - but there's a limit.

    • @s.anthonyulibarri2488
      @s.anthonyulibarri2488 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Lakrimoz Key word, usually. You do realize that lightsabers have a function to raise and lower the intensity of its beams. They can lower the intensity so it only leaves a slight sting and small burn. This is done to set lightsabers to a training mode that the younglings use. They wanted to leave Reva alive to suffer her defeat. To Vader and the Grand Inquisitor that is a greater humiliation and suffrage than killing her would be. If you want to force yourself to dislike this series, that is up to you. There are reasonable explanations, especially given that you do not know every detail about a lightsaber. It is a fictional weapon and they do not have to work to the specifications you imagine. Accept it.
      -
      Oh and before you use our current knowledge of the physics of plasma and say, but that is not how plasma works. Artificial gravity in their ships and repulsor lifts that allow enormous ships to float in atmospheres is not how gravity works! But you are okay suspending your disbelief for that right?

    • @Lakrimoz
      @Lakrimoz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@s.anthonyulibarri2488 Well since you were unable to give me an example outside of this show where someone is stabbed in the midsection and survived a lightsaber strike, I guess we can go ahead and change "usually" to "always".
      Your mental gymnastics to explain why she survived is humorous, I supposed Reva also had the safety on when she stuck the Grand Inquistor? But lets say you're correct and that was the writer's intention, its terrible writing to just leave that to the audience to guess - especially since your theorey of "safety" blades is never mentioned in the films and certainly out of character for Sith OR Jedi - why would Jedi use full settings at all when they could "stun" their opponents in a less horrific way?
      Just because something is "fictional" doesn't mean you can just do anything, it undermines the lore and audience investment in the universe - again, very poor writing. Maybe a giant spaghetti monster used the force to heal Reva - its all just fiction so who cares right?
      As for the physics of how things work - this is a work of scifi, so its "believable" that they have power sources or technology that allows massive objects to ignore gravity and travel through hyperspace - so I agree its believable for a lightsaber strength to be tuned... but again this is never explained or demonstrated to the audience nor have I encountered any situation in film or games where the strength was adjusted for a fight. So while you can make up believable fantasy in your head-cannon to explain things, its doesn't gel with the existing universe and audience understanding of how lightsabers work. Now if you're going to quote some novel or comic as reference - its an asinine point as most film or tv viewers aren't going to have that background knowledge.

    I want to mention something here. What I think is just absolutely awesomely metaphored is the mask of Vader. In Rebels there is Ahsoka who damages his right side of the mask where a little of his true self comes out for a brief moment. The same happens in Obi-Wan-Kenobi series but with the left side of his mask. Both of them are the only people that are still alive who were able to touch him and make him step into the light briefly. But only his son Luke will eventually be the one who is able to fully turn him back to the light side and will be the only one to take of his full mask. Just thought about this and my mind was blown as I think this was done deliberately and is absolutely incredible.

    Idk if Obi could have ended it tho. At that point he was extra emotional hearing Anakin's voice and the conflict in Vader during the battle with his inner Anakin was gone. He probably could have but Vader, based on Disney's cannon is extra dangerous when his mask is damaged.

    I met Bonnie Piesse (Aunt Beru) and Ian McDiarmid (Palpatine) at Washington State Summercon this last weekend. I respect them both so much for keeping the final episode a total secret. There were so many fans badgering them that I couldn't stand it.
    But they and the staff kept gently reminding us not to spoil or pester them. Im glad they allowed us to enjoy the finale.
    13:30 Lots of people at con were dying to know if he cameos in Kenobi. He respectfully told us to just wait and see. I imagine if this episode had premiered when he said these words, we would have gone nuts.

    It kinda felt like the series was rushing through most of the previous episodes, and now I see why. They were probably eager to get that incredible character moment out of their system. My biggest complaint is between the shaky cam and the dark environments, I regularly got motion sickness from this series. But aside from that, the writing overall very much honored the characters. Reva's character arc was a big surprise. There were rumors her story would end stupidly, but it ended very Star Wars-like and she stole my heart without stealing the show. And the portrayal of Darth Vader here stands shoulder to shoulder with the original trilogy and even makes shifts in his character between Episode V and VI even more believable.
    The last episode closed all the continuity gaps and managed to tell a necessary story, I think. Leia is smart and Ben swore her to secrecy, so her formality in her ANH message makes sense, she was being cautious. Ben's lie to Luke about who killed Anakin was more a reflection of Vader's own views and Obi-Wan coming to accept that perspective for himself... retroactively makes Obi-Wan a better person, less of a manipulative bull spit artist and more of a complex character, who never stopped wanting to do right, resorting to fighting dirty to ease his own guilt, and more just that he had the hope that some part of his friend remained stamped out of him. I've been in arguments for years over how Ben wasn't entirely the wise mentor many fans believed him to be, and now I'm happy I don't have to argue against him being the wise mentor or even a good person anymore. I'm pretty happy to be proven wrong on that count.
    I absolutely love that Ben got to tell Leia about her parents and specifically how she reminded him of them, and her reaction was so wise and grateful. That moment got me more than anything else... Like Obi-Wan still honored who they were, and Leia gracefully accepted those qualities as something to aspire to herself. Made all the slow burn stuff with Leia worth it. They wrote and cast a perfect young Leia, Vivien did incredible.

    That scene between Vader and Obi-Wan was one of the best scenes in all of Star Wars. And the way Vader smirked as he said he was the one who killed Anakin? That was just brutal. Shows how evil Vader truly is.
    Obi-Wan in ANH: “He betrayed and murdered your father.”
    Vader in Obi-Wan finale: “I am not your failure, Obi-Wan. You didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker; I did.

It could also overlap with events to be seen in Andor maybe?

    i love the parallels between the fights of Obi wan and Vader and Ahsoka against Vader. Like Vader saying: "Then you will die!" to both of them. The best one is that in both Vader's helmet is cut into halfs and you can hear Anakins voice like in Obi wans case to apologise to anakin and in Ahsoka's that she finds out what Anakin has become.

    I will say that the fight between Obi-Wan and Vader is fast and intense. Better than the sequels. There I said it. And I get people's hate to the sequel's choreography. But I also think we've taken the Star Wars lightsaber duels (live action at least) for granted. Remember, in order to perform the choreography as seen in the prequels, it takes practice after practice after practice. On top of that, dedication and commitment. It just so happens that Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen got the "right" choreographers and that's why they're able to do what they do, especially the Mustafar duel from Episode III. While this series' fights are not exactly like the prequels, we should be grateful that Ewan and Hayden are able to retain some of their muscle memory from their trainings.
    Also, I think the reason why people criticize the sequel's choreography is because of the lack of jedi stances. The stances is what made the prequels' lightsaber fights so memorable. Here, we see Obi-Wan using his signature stance against Vader, like he did in the prequels.

    Weird that the flagship star destroyer couldn't spare a couple of shuttles and tai fighters to follow and destroy that other ship. Too many holes to mention in this new series and way to much exposition. They should be more delicate with the growth of Leia and Luke they deserved better.

    • @E-Lykos
      @E-Lykos 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, it's a Star Destroyer Vader, it can chase them if you're going to take the personal shuttle to chase him? And why couldn't they use parts from their dropship that had a working hyperdrive to fix the bigger ships hyperdrive, or get the most vulnerable out on the dropship instead? Weirdly, I felt like most of the "chase" scenes in this series felt... kind of dumb? There were a lot of them and a lot of times it never really felt the escape was earned, just the chaser basically letting the chased go pr being unable to catch up for mo real reason. I loved the cinematography, but some of the weird story beats and the chase scenes spoiled most of the other things (which I did genuinely enjoyed). It almost feels like they started their story planning with an epic battle between Vader and Obi-wan and then worked backwards.

    This episode was by far the most Star Wars thing I’ve seen since Rogue One. After getting off to a somewhat stilted beginning the director Deborah Chow redeemed herself completely with this episode. The duel between Ben and Vader was epic! Not only was it visually stunning and beautifully choreographed but it also had all the emotional tension you’d expect. And it ended the same way their first encounter did…with Vader defeated and helpless and Ben just walking away instead of killing him. Poetic.
    The few moments we saw Vader’s face were absolutely chilling. Especially when he told Ben that he’d killed Anakin. The evil on his face was heart stopping. It really gives us a glimpse into how far down the rabbit hole Anakin has fallen.
    Fun fact: the middle name of the girl that played Leia is the same as Galen Erso’s wife in “Rogue One”…Lyra.
    May the force be with you. ✌🏼

    There’s a small detail in their fight that I don’t see people mention as often. It’s like you said, usually when we see Vader fight, like in their first encounter, in Rebels, in Rogue One or nearly any other time, he looks so effortless as he holds his saber in one hand. In this fight, he holds it with two hands at one point.
