  • On this, No AC Service Call I run into an overheated compressor and the r22 is contaminated and extreme hi pressures. It almost appears to run at 410A suction pressure yet head pressure shoots up. I have to cool off air conditioning compressor to get the windings to close. Then I remove refrigerant evacuate, and recharge the Ac system

Just a tip i carry a empty recovery (vacuum pulled)tank when I come across this problem I recover the charge. Then change the drier ,pull a vacuum and connect to vapor valve (flip the recovery drum) and put charge back in in liquid form while watching the sight glass and stop when liquid starts to disappear from the sight glass and if needed top off with virgin. The non condensables stays in the recovery drum. This is legal as you are putting it back in the system. Now I've only tried it on single component refrigerants like r22 and r134a. Haven't tried on blends.

    • @thehvachacker

The trade has become really scientific with all this superheat and subcooling. Older units that were just purged or barley evacuated would go 30-50 years. When 100 degrees are hitting it’s all about providing comfort not leaving a system down. Many when I started would pressure tested with r22.

And she will be good for a hot while . At least till winter and you can plan on coming back and pulling it down and throwing a filter on that hog . That can’t be much time . It’s the second week in January and I been working on mostly commercial fridges and freezers . Down here in Florida summer season starts a little after February . It’s how I catch up on my paper work bull crap . I find that if your following the sight glass you have to run the machine under load almost 24 hours especially on smaller machines before they settle down . If the charge is right you can watch the compressor come on , the air pushes out , then finally after everything gets running and warm the Bubbles disappear . Any ways good work . Your hired . Lol .

Everyone is entitled to charge what they want. Since I mostly work for a rather large company. They don't budge on there prices. We have lots of the hi-end homes on lockdown. Also the same with the commercial buildings. They all think my company is expensive yet word of mouth and manpower when needed keeps getting us into newer homes and commercial sites. If I was attempting to start my own company and had to compete with where I am working I understand where your question is coming from. But if you start working for cheap customers, will you ever be able to raise your rates to what you want or will they keep looking for deals? May I ask where you are from? So I can have a better understanding of the market, you are competing in. I am in the North Jersey market which is saturated for the smaller companies trying to start out. It is possible to do. Many do go with a smaller company cause they like the tech that owns the company.

Compressor overheated, electrical fine, i’d wager a stoppage on suction line before compressor was there. Not enough to cool compressor, not enough movement to lower pressure on low side, as you said pressure was suction of R-410A which is about 118psig or 68ish degrees saturation for r22. Rise in low side pressure indicates suction restriction, rather than orifice restriction. Which leads to one of two culprits: first is a misplaced king valve, but i can’t see it, or a noncondensible, like you diagnosed, caught in the suction line

    • @thehvachacker
      @thehvachacker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

The end result and the most important result is that the elderly customer has an AC unit that is now blowing 59 degree air in a hot summer night. Now it costs me about $550 for a drum and is more economical to just swap to 410 on leakers instead of prolonging those dinosaurs. I wish that they'd produce 134a systems (Carrier made 3 prototypes that are used in a couple homes). But R22 was simple and easy and delivered excellent results. Also don't get me wrong I do follow 608 and only charge once a year and on the 2nd trip I repair or replace

It's impossible to find a micro leak without using a micron gauge, and you should always take your gauges off with positive pressure. Granted, you might not notice any moisture issues immediately, I find that copper carbonate builds up on the threads of the txv needle over time from moisture and causes it to stick, and in some case's even seize.
There are legitimate reasons why 0% moisture in a system is critical, especially with poe oil.

Did you see how high the suction and head pressure were jumping to before I shut it down. I think that was an r22 compressor attempting to compress 410a. Which caused the compressor to shut down on thermal OL. I believe that her ac couldn’t keep up with nj temps over design temp for almost 2 weeks and called another company or a neighbors kid. she was under the impression if she needed r22 we weren’t recharging residential units. So whoever she called gave her some Freezon out of the pink can.

Don't worry about these opinions. Every call can be done better in one way or another. At least you are trying to do the right thing. Sorry but these techs who are working for companies that are driving them to sell replacement systems at all costs should be ignored due to the fact that "most" of them do not know shit and nor do the owners. Those companies hire young guys to run the numbers game period and quite frankly it's criminal behavior. They can talk some lingo but wouldn't know where to start beyond changing a capacitor. Example: I was training a man last week who had worked for another company for two years running maintenance and service. I let him know that we were going to work on airflow all week and we'll start with Delta T's. He asked me what a Delta T was. In his head, he knew what he was doing in the field, but found out quickly otherwise. I'm just glad he wanted to learn. He had only been trained to cycle the system, clean the condenser, check for a rusty or leaky coil and call for a TURN OVER. This is a rampid problem across the country. The people who bought the company I work for don't know shit about HVAC. They are simply trying to make their investors happy. They are implementing the " if the repair is $500, call for a salesman" program. Their capacitor price is $300. Sorry but this is bullshit and not true service. They are criminals and that's why I am leaving asap.
Yes, there are time and procedure issues on every service call. As long as you communicate and charge properly they eventually work out. The calls that I make the most on, are the ones I walk away from and don't waste any time on. Asking questions and weeding out the bullshit calls are a techs best start. Low cost service calls get a lot of home warranty calls because they are cheaper than the HW service call and the home owner usually only wants you to diagnose it and not repair. Example of a Big Waste of Time.

My company is starting the corporate route. Hopefully they don’t change and screw up what’s been working for 80+ years. they still expect quality work from techs and what’s best for customer. You always get the new guy who thinks he is the greatest tech since where he worked no 3xperienced techs worked there. We get the guys who say they are commercial service techs. Not realizing how severe the commercial work is. I screwed myself when I first started with this job I told them I am strong on the essential service side I do some commercial yet not a lot. Took many years to get a solid workload of commercial yet they know what I can do and what I will figure out yet might take me a little longer. I am @ good tech not the best nor the worst. I did tell her I was going to attempt to get to operate with no promises. Yet how do I not do what I can to get the machine to operate or find out with a fresh weighed in charge. This way I can find out what might need to be repaired. Hard to do when the pressures shot up like they did when I cooled off compressor. I'm a forklift tech (just watching out of interest 👍) but one of the common feedbacks I get from my customers is how I explain in detail but in a way they can understand. Try not to use technical terms and if you have too, explain what they mean or try and use an analogy to compare with something the average bear does understand.
It helps people feel their not getting ripped off when you explain things, knowledge empowers people - that's why I don't necessarily agree with the 'it's broke, I'll fix it' way. Using too many tech terms also makes people feel their being ripped off because it's a gut human reaction when we don't understand something to automatically go on the defensive.

I have worked very hard to mark everything I have been on is year with Freon make. I have had this happen to me with a 407c unit and R22 mix. psi was close but got low or no cooling it was just not right. Pulled charge add new R22 it’s working great Thanks you great video (it was a R22unit)

I've never had an issue when it comes to mixing 407c with R22. I've done it multiple times and I've never had a call back.

Sauce Clipz The problem with the practice of adding a different refrigerant to a system will be eventually seen if refrigerant leaks out due to zeotropic azeotropic blends...which seems to be the problem here

Nice job, getting it running for the lovely old lady and I hope the idiots the put the wrong refrigerant in get hauled up for all the possible damage they did to this system.

somewhere along the line someone must have mixed refrigerants with noncondensibles in the unit--good save
