I have never been a fan of the desert until this trip, it definitely changed my mind regarding desert trips and adventures!

Eastern California/Nevada really isn't the desert. So many mountain ranges. The valleys get dry and hot but 20 miles away and up in altitude the weather can be great! Maybe the high desert. Even the lower altitudes down in the valleys is around 3000 ft. Coyote Flats is up at 10,000/11,000 feet. Kirkwood ski resort has the highest altitude in California. 9800 ft at the top.

The thing about the eastern Sierras is they just are there in front of you. This huge wall. Driving up from Sacto, its so gradual. You're climbing up but it doesn't even feel like you are climbing until you get to the top.

Did you lunch in Lee Vinning? Mono Cone? Whoa Nellie Deli? Nicely's? Mono Pizza?
Did you visit the Upside Down house in Lee Vinning?
Have you been to the old resort above Lee Vinning on Log Cabin Road?
Have you been the back road to Gibbs Lake, Kidney Lake, immediately south and west of the 120/395 intersection?
Fun to watch your jeeps. I need to prepare my ZJ for similar side trips.

The White mountains east of Bishop. With some research, a lot of really cool trails to explore.

The Panum crater just on the south side of Mono Lake off of HWY 128.
A ton of OHV trails. Volcanic ash. Like fine, sifted flour. Looks like a Japanese Bonsai garden when you drive by. Bottomless. You just want to drive out and do donuts in it.. Being so stuck, solo. I learned my lesson. Made it back out to the pavement, on my own.

What’s your thoughts on the eastern side of the sierra’s vs the west?

Eastern Sierras are great mostly High mountains and Tin forests with Rocky trails everywhere, both have their natural beauty

I don’t believe you are supposed to drive on that ridge like that..like you mentioned the flowers struggle to survive..Eastern sierras are a bit more pristine than the west side.let’s keep it that way!

We we drive on trails not off trails and flowers grow where they want!
Enjoy the open trails before they are closed and you are stuck looking at AI images of outdoors from your home in a 15 minute city
