I saw the Kodo drummers last night, in Liverpool. It was a fantastic show; energetic, colourful, spectacular and deafening (in places). If you get the chance to see them, do it. You won't regret it.
Saw this crowd in Leith Town Hall as part of The Edinburgh Festival in the '80s. My then girlfriend (now wife) got the tickets. I remember thinking "what on earth is she taking me to see?". It was mind blowing, thank the gods for TH-cam and all the other fans
No way can you "get it" just watching it on TH-cam - the quality just isn't there. Having seen Kodo live several times, the power that these guys are able to generate is phenomenal - enough to make your ears hurt.
The first part is from a song called "Chonlima", that it means "One Thousand League Horse". I'm sure that if I ever seen that piece complete, I will die of extreme love.
kodo es una sensacional banda el japon definitivamente cuenta con un grupo espectacular aca desde colombia en un curso de musica hemos parendido mucho de ellos y de la cult japonesa
And the physicality of it all and the stamina is also incredible - for example, starting at 2:06 in this video - you might not be able to tell but the guy playing the drum on the left of the screen is holding his torso about 30 degrees up off the ground using nothing but his abdominal muscles for several minutes as he's striking that drum with huge amounts of power.
don't know if they still have their annual summer festival in japan (island of sado, niigata prefecture) but if so, it is absolutely AWESOME! not to be missed!
dude, you gotta be so friggin athletic to do that. especially the one where they're laying down in a half sit-up position halfway through the video. I saw these guys in concert a couple years ago and it was ridiculous, they're so talented.
When I lived in Japan, my buddy and I took my van on the ferry over to Sado Island to do some camping and whatnot once. We ended up taking a wrong turn at one point and wandering into the compound where these guys live and train. There were dudes all around the yard meditating and doing push ups and shit... one guy was doing pull-ups from a tree limb by his finger tips. Those guys don't fuck around. Never seen 'em perform, though...
you do reallise that i was just kidding for what i sayd erlyer i just laughed so much of that commment i had to steal it but i aggree with this one even more " Now that's the true power spirit given to drumming... -_- "
These guys came to my High School. Of course my narrow-minded classmates couldn't appreciate them like I did as they snickered amongst themselves because they thought it was "wierd" and "lame." Unable to understand anything outside of their School, let alone their culture and country.
Must see them live, the videos just don't give you the full feeling... If you have the opportunity to see any Japanese drumming, do so. It's overwhelming.

These folks have a very serious training regimen. The festival they have on Sado Island (Niigata prefecture) has put the island on the map. Superb!
I love this! I t reminds me of really intense moments in movies. You know something badass is about to happen.

@FruitLoopFan technically 12pm is noon, if you meant midnight then it's 12am. so saying 12pm at night makes no sense.

I think bucket drummers on the streets of DC are more entertaining than this. I'm sure it's much better live though.
That was boring
