High quality content here. Such a good teacher. And very well filmed, too. A printing class right wherever I get time to take it as many times I want. WONDERFUL
a wonderful, inspiring demonstration and explanation of how to print an intaglio plate properly! and loads of extra interesting comments on printing. You are a top teacher, I think! (let alone an artist).
Sir, you are long time working for the Buffalo image etching, I am watching this video, sir you are intelligent and talented man, so I learned new tricks, thank you so much, good night,
Dear Gary. Excellent video. Can you please make a video of soft ground etching, hard ground etching, deep bite and false bite please? A prequel of this video would really benefit us all.
As an experienced etcher, and having also done plates this large, in the end I believe that a smaller format is conducive to producing a higher quality result, as a general rule of thumb.
Nunca vi a nadie maltratar tanto una placa, incluso pone tinta directo con la espátula sobre la imagen !! Seguro agrega rayas al trabajo del autor, su ,manejo de la placa!! Un terror !
Well let's see you draw an etching sir. I couldn't care less for those who etch from photo. A six year old can do that. Unless you are actually drawing your own work you are not an artist. You are a Craftsman.. I find all kinds of videos where people trace photo copied images into lino or etch a photo copy with ground, but how do I draw an image onto metal? Soapstone maybe? Btw, nice to see a man with real muscles. Not those fake gymrat muscles on guys who can't open a jar. Good looking man's man lady's man body you've got there sir.
That is exactly how the plate is inked in on an Intaglio 2 or 4 plate press. On the 2 plate press the plate then is introduced to a scraper blade, then a wiper roller and then a polisher roller, then to the sheet of paper,,, former Intaglio Printer with ABN and BEP

1This was an outstanding video Gary, thank you for sharing the process with us!
Thank you so much for that Gary, it was so informative and educational. I look forward to seeing more of your youtube videos.
I would like to see the etching process too. What kind of spray paint was used for the aquatint areas?
Would a blow dryer work to help remove the paper easier?
I wish I could see the etching process of this Buffalo.
Thank you very much for this video!
Holy moly-he uses ALOT of ink!
Well done!
EXCELLENT.
.WITH GREAT LOVE.
What is the purpose or benefit of inking areas of the plate where there is clearly no pattern?
Typically to add some tone to the paper which frames the image and is distinguishable from the border.
They have to spread the ink,
Hi, Gary Olson what type of printing press is that and who is the manufacturer ?

The back feet look...awkward.
inking is not a religious experience
Every thoughtful craft is a religious experience...
OMG! This guy does not know how to ink and wipe a plate!
hhh I think so ~~
...said the litho guy. Hey, shouldn't you be lavigating your stones?
Why not explain what you mean rather than state simply someone is incorrect, and if you know better we can then all learn?
