- The intaglio process often involves an aquatint ground to add tone. Traditionally the aquatint printmaking process involved rosin powder. this provided great results but rosin carries health risks. These days sugar-lift techniques and acrylic spray resists are providing good results, and used carefully, are less dangerous to respiratory system.
This video shares my approach to the subject. It shows me cleaning ground from the copper plate and producing a proof print to inspect the first layer of line etching. Then, after further cleaning and degreasing, my set-up for spraying an acrylic aquatint resist.

Such great detail throughout the walk-through, step by step…. So mesmerizing and… Then it ends! What a cliff hanger! Ah! Quick! ! I need to find Part II!
Pleased you enjoyed it. Video production was impacted first by covid then a major house move. I'll be returning to printmaking and videos of same this autumn.
The vacuum cleaner trick is wicked! Plus great internal setup to the box. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks very much Lena. Will check out your channel
Correction: The image shown at 10:12 is a bottle of Lascaux Stop-out resist, not the Spray resist being used. The liquid is a very similar blue and I inserted the wrong one....apologies!
This is so relaxing to watch
Thanks, that's good to know as I'm planning more of the same this spring.
Is all this hard work profitable?. Or just a exercise in therapeutic relaxation?
Yes, it is profitable and rewarding, but this channel is about creativity, not money or therapy.
