- As the 55th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is ongoing, we dig into the how this prestigious festival found its home in Goa?
The International Film Festival of India, commonly known as IFFI, was first launched in 1952 in Mumbai. It was the first international film festival held in Asia and featured 40 feature films and 100 short films.
Organised by the Films Division of the Government of India, this pioneering event aimed to bring filmmakers and film lovers together to appreciate the art of cinema.
Over the years, the festival travelled to various cities, including Madras, Delhi, Calcutta and Trivandrum, before eventually finding its permanent home in Goa in 2004.
Goa, with its unique charm, rich cultural heritage, beautiful landscapes, and global appeal, proved to be the perfect destination for IFFI. It was also a dream project. Watch this video to find out more.
