A lot of threat meters are still being made and don't work correctly on all flights. Even in this recording, the threat meter never displays the threat being dropped by the MT in phase 1, whereas in reality he isn't that far ahead of threat even though it shows it.
Unfortunately I don't get it. Let's imagine you have 10 range DDs doing Dmg on Onyxia in Phase 2, unless everyone of them will get hit by a fireball in phase 2, all of them should have a higher threat than the second tank. Or is nobody getting threat by DPSing in Phase 2? And if you are on position 4/5 on threat meter as second tank in Phase 1, then the 4th/5th fireball should hit you and you will lose the threat. So you have to bring her to phase 3 before she casts 4/5 fireballs? That seems pretty difficult.
You could solo tank her in vanilla (done it myself), so the fireballs resetting threat is definitely a bug. This is a nice workaround till they bother fixing it though, so thanks!
I agree that something is not working as it should (vanilla) as my guild killed her on reset every week back in vanilla and we never had any problems AT ALL, she was always: free loot, 0 wipes. And we also didn't bother holding back dps in p1 as a lot of guild do now, just waited a few seconds for tank to grab threat and watch our threat so we wouldn't overaggro the tank as he gets wing buffeted.
Hi Yaman, thanks for posting this video. I have some conflicting evidence from my most recent Ony kill, our tank eats her only 2 fireballs before we transition to P3 and he still holds threat. I'm not sure what is happening or how he held aggro. Can't really give a definite reasoning behind it. She may not reduce the threat until she's done launching fireballs at the target and starting on the next. He may of been able to be fireballed another couple times, but because your DPS was so fast she just transitioned to p3 very fast before threat could be dropped. This is another way to avoid having 2 tanks if you can just push her so fast that she can't even fireball, though this obviously isn't something newer guilds can rely on.
The answer is it's not a 100% threat wipe, just a reduction that happens to lower MOST people's threat down lower than others. We just finished a raid where we had a Mage with such high DPS/threat going into P2 that he got targeted by 3 fireballs *in a row* which should be impossible if it was a complete wipe.

He uses standard UI from what i can tell. The damage and threat meter are Details.
It's default. Addon which makes things look darkened is Lorti-UI

Onyxia started to fire at people who weren't top on threat meter. Any explanations ? We all have details so threat addon shouldn't be messed up.
Yes. Details is wrong and doesn't calculate/track threat correctly when she's in the air.

@@RoninATX Done today this raid. Our off tank got 4 fireballs in a row. Ofc he didnt dps her on P2.

No she targets the highest threat players. By avoiding it I mean being hit by the splash effect on whoever it hits
