What a special gift your friend gave you! I’m a Janome girl but I’ve heard Vikings are very nice as well! 🩷 Pretty quilt! I do a lot of machine quilting too. Sheets make awesome backings!🎉
I have a Husqvarna Viking machine that I use for retreats and love it. Hope you get many years of enjoyment with yours. I always admire your straight forward approach to sewing and quilting. Your quilts are always beautiful and inspire me to start a new project. I want to try and do my own quilting. I typically send mine out to be quilted, but watching you makes me think I could be successful. Of course, you make everything look easy!!😁
Hello Beth, I think this quilt came out so cute. Thank You for the teaching tutorial on quilting. And how to apply binding. Also for mentioning that you have other videos, on quilting in the listings below. I like to go back and see each one. It's like re watching you Make the quilt again. Besides learning the technique. Looking forward to your next video as always. ❤
When I am "frankenbatting" in order to get straight edges, I lay them on top of each other and make a cut to have the same edges to butt together with a multi stitch zig zag. This eliminated the ripply seam. Thanks for your clever videos.
I also noticed that with poly batting, it is helpful to add pins even if using spray as it is slippery. Cotton or 80/20 batting is much less slippery. Glad to see people quilting their own quilts on their machine. I also do my binding as you showed with sewing to the back and top stitching on the front. It is strong, fast, and looks good.
Beth, what a nice gift, that is a very nice machine. I recently bought a new one to me, Pfaff. I haven't had the time to play with it. So I understand having a bit of trouble at first. I can't wait to get into my new one. The quilt is darling. ❤
Just the video I needed to watch today. Thank you Beth. I’ve just finished a quilt as you go for young granddaughter and now I need to finish with the binding all the way round. 🙏🏻
I had a Viking D-1 years ago that I traded for a Viking SELE again more years ago! Still have this machine and it’s a beauty. The D-1 is really a great machine, too - I just wanted a larger hoop at that time.
Before zigzagging the batting, line up the batting pieces and with a pencil make a horizontal mark every six inches across the pieces. When sewing, match up the marks. This will help eliminate the gaps or stretching or bunching of the batting.
Great video. I have used my domestic sewing machine for quilting all of my baby and throw size quilts. I found it interesting that you did not use any pinning of the body before quilting. I have used spray adhesive and have found it not to hold well enough to keep the movement of fabric from puckering so I have always pinned. What brand is your adhesive? I also use bed sheets for backings. It is a very economical option. I will go to resale stores and look for high-end flat sheets in colors and or patterns that will be good for background or backing.
I always pinned my quilt sandwich but it’s getting harder on my hands. The spray looks intriguing, I’m gonna give it a try on my next quilt. Any advice?
I like to use the three-step zigzag if I can, for butted seams. Regular zigzag can sometimes bunch up a bit of material inside the stitch, but 3-step always lies flat. It's also good for plain overlapped seams, or any seam finish that you need to flatten and disperse the pull on that fabric. (Like maybe when working with a fraying fabric edge.)
Such a lovely quilt Beth. Love the idea of using sheets for backing and background. I have not used sheets befor but will in the future. Was just wondering what size is your baby quilt. Desley🇦🇺
Thank you for sewing along with me today! The baby shower is in TWO weeks and I am READY! 😊
Such a charming little quilt!! Thank you for sharing the process!
Love watching you quilt on you standard machine. Like many quilters, this is the only method i can use.
It amazes me how well your quilt sandwiches stay together with so little adhesive spray. Thanks for showing us this❤️

💙🪡🧵 Love this! I've watched you sew this quilt from beginning to end and enjoyed it so much. I'm always learning from you! Thank you!🎉
I use Pellon to stick my batting pieces together. 1/2” x72” just iron the pieces together.
Adorable shower gift! What a treasure! ❤❤❤ Many thanks for sharing this project.
You make this look so easy attaching front to back. You just made my work so much easier. I’m not as hesitant in doing that. Thanks.

Beautiful as always! I also love that you said most of your machines don't have zigzag, showing it can be done simply.

beautiful quilt Beth, thank you for sharing the quilting tips with us x
I'm just starting, though I've made small things. Thank you for showing how to put it all together. I'm also making a gift of a baby quilt.
You can also use a piece of interfacing to attach the pieces together
Nicely done ❤
Such a cuuutttteeee quilt!!!!!🥰👍👍👍🫶🫶🫶🫶
I’m going to to try your way of finishing up attaching the binding. I normally use the “tuck” method. This will be interesting
Very nice quilt pattern!
Beautiful guilt ❤
Very pretty
Looks like a sturdy machine. Love your choice of a denim look background. It isnt a color i would chose, but it really works for a little boys quilt.

I use the 505 spray.
I always pinned my quilt sandwich but it’s getting harder on my hands. The spray looks intriguing, I’m gonna give it a try on my next quilt.
Any advice?
Go easy on the spray. It doesn’t take much.👍

40”x46”
Hi Beth. Cute quilt. What are the measurement of this quilt?
40”x46”
Thank you. 😂❤
Spray your 505, 2-3 inches from your surface. Totally eliminates over Spray and fumes!
😀
Hope you received two boxes of sewing items last week
I did!🙂 thank you so much
