I don't think sub is necessarily evil in this timeline. He's just extremely ambitious. He may not be a lost cause yet but that kinda depends on who Noob Saibot is gonna be
I'm betting Frost if she ever comes back, she did get a call out in these interactions. She also has alot if the same personality and character traits of Bi Han
Sub Zero in this timeline for now is just a side character sp we have yet to see his complete motives for turning on both his brother and Liu Kang, He is less sypathetic this time than his Original counterpart who was morally dubious but wouldn't betray his own family or be dishonarable and kill someone else's family as the deaths of Scorpion's family was done by Quan Chi, This Bi Han is more villanous as he killed his Father and betrayed his brother, and its not because he was turned into a Corrupted version of his old self. P.S MK1 Sub Zero has a lot more in common with Sektor than his OG Self as he was the one that started the Cyber Intiative this time and is currently hunting his Brother and Smoke, the same way Sektor hunted Sub Zero and Smoke in the OG timeline, Sektor also killed his own father to become Grandmaster similar to MK1 Sub Zero
The old Bi-Han had nothing to prove, he didn't have a chip on his shoulder. He was cold strong, his actions spoke for him, while he was kind of an asshole he was the epitome of a great assassin and thief. While I can appreciate the pursuit of ambition, he seeks the aid of anyone who is quick to offer it. A man that wants power is one that forges it himself. He could have turned the Lin Kuei to be more independent without gaining so many enemies. This man really is a shadow of his former self, what happened to the man the beat the elemental gods, turned a demon from evil and truly the best of his clan. They made him to much like Sektor.
That’s also because before Bi Han wasnt to be the successor for the Lin Kuei it was Sektor, if old Bi Han was the actual successor and grandmaster do you really believe he wouldn’t just sell out to whoever offered a better deal? Sub Zeros ending in mk11 proves there’s always a darkness to Bi Hans soul
To be honest, I was expecting Bi-Han to get his redemption in this game (something that I really wanted since he needs one), but maybe the creators showing Bi-Han's flaws and cold side is a way to properly build up his redemption and flesh out his character more, showing us his original personality before doing his redemption. Maybe in the next game, we'll see Bi-Han get it.
Tbh I do somewhat agree with Bi-Han’s point of view, if your entire clan is only dedicated to hiding in the shadows and coming out to defend against threats and then going back into the shadows for a long time, what’s the point of waiting? Why not instead of waiting for a threat, they could help lead the very nation they defend? Sure, the methods and what he did was very wrong, but Bi-Han, like Havik, genuinely thinks that changing is the only way the Lin Kuei can move forward, though it was how he did it was how he betrayed everyone’s trust.
He wasn't interested until Shang Tsung tempted him. Also, he had everything to lose and anything to gain after he was captured. Sure, he could have double-crossed Shang Tsung. shrugs*
I feel like they're setting up Bi-Han's redemption arc with Sareena being the reason for him being redeemed, since she was saved by Ashra in her ending.
That would be great since the last time Thanks to Bi Han Sareena could redeem herself back in MK Mythologies. Now it can be the other way around in the next game.
That would be a nice call back to Mythologies, and i think it is deserved if i remember correctly she wanted to free him from Quan Chi when he was Noob Saibot so maybe finally she has the chance.
It has never been confirmed by NetherRealm Studios (NRS) that Sareena and Bi-Han were in a romantic relationship in Mythologies. The assumption that he was romantically involved with Sareena is made by some fans.
I freaking love Bi-Han Sub-Zero because he reminds me so much of Vegeta. Plus I’ve always considered Bi-Han as an anti-hero or someone who takes no sides and wants to rule in his own way while defeating his enemies. Also, he reminds of MCU Loki before he turned into a good guy
5:35 Funny that they reference Frost when Bi Han's extremely blind ambition and need to overthrow people that he feels have power over him basically makes him identical to MK11 Frost. I wouldn't be surprised if instead of becoming Noob Saibot that he, Sektor and Cyrax instead augment themselves with cybernetic implants, becoming a Cyber Sub-Zero and turning the Lin Kuei into the Tekunin.
Bi-Han was not evil but he was callous and ruthless and dedicated to the Lin Kuei. In the original midway timeline, he had experienced the mythologies story line that's why if he had won the mk1 tournament he would have left the Lin Kuei if the ending was to be proved true. In the NetherRealm Studios timeline for some reason he was in the tournament just to assassinate the earthrealm fighters. He either lost to Sonya on purpose, or that was bad writing that he lost cause that Bi-Han also experienced mythologies. This Bi-Han is like the original Bi-Han callous and ruthless and this Bi-Han did not experience mythologies to have a change of heart, he is the cold hearted bastard that he was in the original timeline dedicated to the Lin Kuei before the mythologies storyline
bi han is the sektor of this bew timeline: -only cares about his ambitions. -couldn't care less about earthrealm or its people -killed his father to become the grandmaster -supports the cyber initiative in order to have more power
@@assassin8636 some people take the smalls things too seriously and don’t sit back and enjoy the show. I enjoyed every moment of Cringe Zero fall into being a villain. Even more so Liu Kang being Naive on how Bi-Han was taking shots at every corner. Lol
I love how half of Bi-Han and Rain's interactions is with Rain saying there are limits to amibiton and Bi-Han is pretty much saying "No there is not!" and the other half is both of them being interested in how long they had their powers lol
i do love that rain appears to have regret of his action, his ending also points that way. maybe the next mk game we will finally get a rain chapter like how they did with our boys baraka and reptile
Oddly I like how similar Rain and Bi-Han are in this game, the main difference being Rain is actually quite remorseful (see his ending). Bi-Han is just persistent and his drive for power paints him in the wrong. Honestly, I don't blame him for wanting more power, they've served Earthrealm but never got to relish in it as he wished. Frost foreshadowing? 5:35
What's most pathetic about Bi Han is that his goal is ultimately superficial. He wanted to give his clan independence from Lui Kang. Which is understandable, but he does so by working under Shang Tsung. This doesn't even have to do with the matters of good and evil. He was too much of a coward to just try and break free without having to be under someone. To solidify this is that even after Shang Tsung's defeat he goes running to work under Shao. And he even offers to work under Milleena. He clearly doesn't have enough faith in himself or his clan enough to just break free and fend for himself and lead his clan alone.
And considering Liu Kang isn't a tyrannical god who abuses his power, he may have simply let the Lin Kuei make their own decisions if Sub Zero demanded it. Liu Kang doesn't even want worship or anything like that, he just wanted fighters to protect the realm, so Bi-Han's obsession with breaking free from him make no sense.
@AmericaChavez710But remember, in the original timeline, Bi-Han as Sub-Zero wasn’t really a bad person. I’d say he’s very much deserving of a chance considering how poorly written he is here.
@AmericaChavez710 In Mythologies he saved Earthrealm after being asked by Raiden and forgave the life of Sareena (a demon) also distrusted Quan Chi a lot and fought him and Shinnok. Was apprehensive to learn that he had Evil in his heart and that he was condemned to go to the NetherRealm when he died. Then he was framed for the Shiray Ryu massacre and was unjustly killed by Hanzo How is he a villain? Yes, he killed Hanzo but that hardly counts given the history of everyone else
@AmericaChavez710Why is it Hanzo can get redemption despite being a worse person than Bi-Han? Why is it everyone is adamant Bi-Han doesn’t deserve redemption when at the end of Mythologies he wanted to change?
@AmericaChavez710 Hanzo, the man who has helped Shinnok invade Earth 3 times in both timelines, is not worse than Bi-Han? Hanzo, the man who tortured Kuai Liang when Kuai didn’t want to fight. Hanzo, the man who doomed all the revenants & made the SF weaker whilst doing so. That Hanzo is not worse? They assassinated Bi-Han’s character in this game & people like you who don’t know the lore just go along with it.
I really hate his characterization here. He's already like Noob in this game when there is supposed to be a contrast between the two. If he's already evil than the Noob transformation means nothing. I was hoping they would actually develop his brotherly relationship with Kuai Liang on screen for once.
honestly, its not that bad if u think about it, this has ALOT of potential, Bi-Han is a mirror to Scorpion here, full of rage but in different circumstances Bi-Han's is ambition while Hanzo's was revenge, id actually be a cool plot twist if Kuai Liang becomes Noob Saibot instead of Bi-Han, even better if he dies and turns into him because of his actions related to bi-han whether its saving him or being bestrayed ect. then Hanzo Hasashi will become the new Scorpion (just like how Bi-Han dies to become noob and Kuai Liang becomes the new Sub Zero)
bro is literally sektor... this isnt bi-han. that man was never ambitious for power. he was a morally grey anti-hero who killed only when he was ordered to/when necessary. he never took pleasure in his life as a lin kuei. above all bi-han was loyal to his family, clan, and earthrealm. yes, he was an angry and impatient guy but he was much more nuanced than people gave him credit for.
The fact they had scorpion beat subzero and then just leave was so lame, it would of been more compelling if he lost, subzero couldnt bring himslef to kill him and then he escaped to form his new clan. Shao not winning any fights was also lame. NetherRealm really didnt learn the right lessons from aftermath, if they are going to stick with this chapter system the villians also need chapters and not just ones where they are temporarily teamed up with the heros. You cant take the villians seriously if they never manage to get any wins.
Interesting that in the previous game Noob Saibot claimed that he would not have allowed women into the Lin Kuei. Evidently that was due entirely to adherence to tradition rather than any kind of prejudice. Since that tradition does not exist in this timeline (Madame Bo is a retired Lin Kuei), Bi-Han has no problem with women being in their ranks.
I love how everyone learned that Bi-han ruined the Lin Kuei and almost everyone is PISSED at him for it, the only downside to this is you cant really listen to these intros if you havent finish the story mode yet.
I think ultimately Bi-Han does regret his betrayal and not just because it failed, he genuinely didnt know the depths of their depravity and was blinding by anger towards Liu Kang and Greed Hopefully he gets some redemption
@@majorfanboy2005probably because he is portrayed as mostly a straight-up villain and evil. Bi-Han when not Noob was a very neutral character, not truly good or evil.
@@majorfanboy2005 so? He’s literally just a cartoon villain in this. They did justice by Kuai liangs scorpion, but that’s not surprising since NRS favorites him over sub zero.
@@majorfanboy2005 The main issue is we aren't really given a good reason why Bi-Han is like this besides vague daddy issues and the desire for power born out of an unspecified reason. Sure it is a different timeline but the other versions of Bi-Han should be respected and serve as a basis for the new one. He has some potential left and a hope of redemption, however small it may be.
Well if you look at it from bi-hans perspective he did make the better choice for his clan. His encounter with ermac and the dragon army showed him that even if they somehow managed to win the Lin kuei would take heavy loss if they fought. If he didn’t fight and joined shao and Shang, he would gain more power, respect and freedom for the Lin kuei. Yes he made the wrong choice for the realms but had the best intentions for his clan.
The Lin Kuei are to serve Earthrealm from the beginning of this new timeline, now they are no better than mercenaries and assassins they were in the previous. Imagine if Sonya Blade or Jax decided that the special forces should be fit to govern instead of serving the greater good or the people.
So, they made Sub-Zero an a-hole again. Like, Bi Han was a-hole in previous two timelines and now he is an a-hole in square. And I hoped to see him as a good guy. Well, at least we have Baraka and Reptile as good guys. Especially Reptile, because he is amazing!
Thank you, Ed Boon, for handing us the single most nigh-irredeemable character in this game that almost no one wants to see redeemed in future titles-makes it perfectly justified to have him killed off in the next game, doesn't it? Such a perfect revenge against Bi-Han and the Sub-Zero mantle, to forever spit on the characterization he had in all forms of media which placed him a cut above your dearly beloved Scorpion and made him look weak before John Tobias left you, isn't it? How does it feel to have so thoroughly destroyed a character and have that character be such a nearly one-dimensional villain in a game full of characters taken in novel directions which includes formerly one-dimensional villains? I always knew that your frustrations with Bi-Han, Sub-Zero, and John Tobias ran deep, but I never imagined that it could inspire such overt and sustained character assassination. You would not be enjoying the fame and money Mortal Kombat brought you had it not been for John Tobias pitching the idea to you all those years ago. You may steer the helm of the Mortal Kombat franchise, but you have lost any trust that you will be a respectable creative writer or director ever again.
Listen here, Sub-Zero fanboy. Ed Boon, as the creator, is not obligated to make Bi-Han a good or anti-hero character. He has the freedom to do whatever he wants with his creations. He doesn't owe you anything, so there's no need to be upset.
@AmericaChavez710You ever seen Bi-Han in the OG timeline? He was definitely not this goofy ahhh exaggerated villain. He was done dirty here and you know it.
@AmericaChavez710 Bi-Han as Sub-Zero was never portrayed as anything less than an anti-hero at his worst in either Mythologies or the various comic adaptations that spanned John Tobias's tenure at Midway. He only became a straight-up villainous when he was revealed to have become the villainous Noob Saibot who was never confirmed to be Bi-Han until after John Tobias had left, and he had almost all of his redeeming qualities glossed over or removed entirely following Netherrealm Studios being founded whether it is him as the original Sub-Zero or as Noob Saibot.

And my theory IS that the Darkness and evil from noob saibot carried over from the previous timeline to Bi-han since in the previous timeline, Bi-han was turned into noob saibot.
The Tengu? The small clan you come across with Taven before you actually confront the Lin Kuei? Completely forgot about them. Hopefully we can see relevant characters from them soon.
To learn from one's errors, one must first acknowledge them, like Rain did in his arcade ending. Bi-Han insists he did nothing wrong, so he learns nothing.
Crazy because Rain was always depicted as the irredeemable one with his actions, it’s cool to see a more empathetic Rain that isn’t stroking his ego and claiming his godhood every 5 minutes, meanwhile Bi Han seems to be going down that route

@firekitten6213 It has never been confirmed by NetherRealm Studios (NRS) that Sareena and Bi-Han were in a romantic relationship in Mythologies. The assumption that he was romantically involved with Sareena is made by some fans.
The amount of times sub zero talks abouts going into the shadows or the shadows aiding him brings me to believe that he will eventually become noob saibot in either a future dlc or MK2.
I believe that he will end up getting betrayed in the future and finally learn some humility. Also, I believe that Kuai Liang will get turned into Noob Saibot instead of him, which will end up making Hanzo, who is a recruit in this timeline take the mantle of Scorpion
You know what's the sad part? I don't think he and Sareena will be a thing since they don't have the same plot and connections from the 2 previous timelines...
it would be nice to see positive influence from a new love interest for him in the next game -- I think Bi-han just needs a little bit of more empathy, understanding and redirection in his values, they really did him dirty in this game.
They probably needed to defend it while Liu Kang and Other Fighters go to the other realm for Mortal Kombat, just in case for any surprise attack from other realms
Of course he would if it's Bi-Han for kicking his baby's ass twice in Mythologies of which Bi-Han was the star back when John Tobias was still on the team. This is Boon's eternal vengeance against Bi-Han, truly embodying Scorpion.
only because scorp is ed shit's favorite. even today in mk1 during the sub vs scorp fight scorp hits sub 10 times but sub 0. and sub turns out to be asshole and vanishes. also look at how many cool fight scenes scorp gets and what subzero get. if we talk since very beginning subzero came out in og storyline before scorp and was pretty popular since then shit boon stomping subzero in every chapter released till toda by displaying scorp as badass and subz as loser in every possible way

I'm betting Frost if she ever comes back, she did get a call out in these interactions. She also has alot if the same personality and character traits of Bi Han
GREEDY. Not ambitious. People often mix those two together. Kuai Liang is ambitious. Bi-Han unfortunately is greedy.
Sub Zero in this timeline for now is just a side character sp we have yet to see his complete motives for turning on both his brother and Liu Kang,
He is less sypathetic this time than his Original counterpart who was morally dubious but wouldn't betray his own family or be dishonarable and kill someone else's family as the deaths of Scorpion's family was done by Quan Chi,
This Bi Han is more villanous as he killed his Father and betrayed his brother, and its not because he was turned into a Corrupted version of his old self.
Yea ever since MK MYTH Bi-Han always was a character that i had a soft spot for, im sad that they made him like this.
Ed Boon is what happened once John Tobias left Midway.
That’s also because before Bi Han wasnt to be the successor for the Lin Kuei it was Sektor, if old Bi Han was the actual successor and grandmaster do you really believe he wouldn’t just sell out to whoever offered a better deal?

If he didn't sell himself out like an idiot, if he didn't betray Earthrealm, people were gonna grow on him quick.
Wanting to be a public political figure kinda kills the purpose of being ninjas.

I really hope this is the case.
That would be awesome, gives the characters depth and humanity
That would be great since the last time Thanks to Bi Han Sareena could redeem herself back in MK Mythologies. Now it can be the other way around in the next game.

Let's hope he finds redemption like Vegeta did.
It so good to see MK and DB fan here :D

Fun fact: The VA of Sub Zero, Kaiji Tang also voiced vegeta in the, bang zoom! Dub of dragon ball super. So you're actually not far off.

Without a doubt
22:24 ain’t no way Havik has beef with a literal state of water😂
In the Midway timeline havik and his people worshiped water
I'm waiting for a bi han redemption arc
Am alliance is not working for someone and he literally says he won’t serve Mileena’s empire are you fucking daft
hopefully he gets a redemption arc in the future but knowing nrs they'll surely make him a jobber
Then he was framed for the Shiray Ryu massacre and was unjustly killed by Hanzo
How is he a villain?
Yes, he killed Hanzo but that hardly counts given the history of everyone else
@AmericaChavez710Why is it Hanzo can get redemption despite being a worse person than Bi-Han? Why is it everyone is adamant Bi-Han doesn’t deserve redemption when at the end of Mythologies he wanted to change?
@AmericaChavez710Yeah you just don’t know the lore & it shows.
Agreed! What a waste!
They straight up just turned him into Rain, and Rain’s already in the game.
honestly, its not that bad if u think about it, this has ALOT of potential, Bi-Han is a mirror to Scorpion here, full of rage but in different circumstances Bi-Han's is ambition while Hanzo's was revenge, id actually be a cool plot twist if Kuai Liang becomes Noob Saibot instead of Bi-Han, even better if he dies and turns into him because of his actions related to bi-han whether its saving him or being bestrayed ect. then Hanzo Hasashi will become the new Scorpion (just like how Bi-Han dies to become noob and Kuai Liang becomes the new Sub Zero)
I love his design and voice 😭
bro is literally sektor... this isnt bi-han. that man was never ambitious for power. he was a morally grey anti-hero who killed only when he was ordered to/when necessary. he never took pleasure in his life as a lin kuei. above all bi-han was loyal to his family, clan, and earthrealm. yes, he was an angry and impatient guy but he was much more nuanced than people gave him credit for.
When Shao khan, Shang Tsung, Tanya and Rain are calling you out on being a traitor, you know you fucked up!
The Hypocrisy meets the Irony 😂😂
The fact they had scorpion beat subzero and then just leave was so lame, it would of been more compelling if he lost, subzero couldnt bring himslef to kill him and then he escaped to form his new clan.
Shao not winning any fights was also lame.
NetherRealm really didnt learn the right lessons from aftermath, if they are going to stick with this chapter system the villians also need chapters and not just ones where they are temporarily teamed up with the heros. You cant take the villians seriously if they never manage to get any wins.
