He paid attention to things that most overlooked and that upped his game. Even when he wasn't hitting like he used to, he was as solid as ever defensively.

Only Ichiro and Cobb in the 4,000 hits and 700 stolen base club. Cobb of course playing over a century ago in an all White league, whole Ichiro played 7 full seasons in Japan, with the majority of his numbers coming in the modern day integrated MLB.
