  • In this video, I showcase my component video setup.
    240p retro setup video: • My RGB Retro Game Setu...
    My CRT model: Sony KV-FS120
    Automatic Component Switch: www.gretrostuff...
    Forgot to mention in the video but none of the consoles in the setup require a mod, which makes it much more straightforward than my 240p setup :)

    I used to have the exactly same TV when I was like 8 years old (2009) and I actually hooked up my big brother's PS2 into this TV, to play Gran Turismo 4 with my big brother right before he got married later that year!

    BTW, I have this TV too, and if you didn't know you can turn it into a widescreen mode in the menu. And apparently it's not just black bars, it actually focusses the pixels vertically so that it's 480 pixels between the black bars. You can use it for those widescreen games on the WIi and Xbox and stuff!

    Homebrewed wii is a fantastic replacement for most everdrives for me. Note, im not casual but not exactly loyal to original hardware either. I love the 240p the homebrew emulators on the wii can output. Basically good for everything up to a ps1 minus so large arcade games. But metal slugs work.

    @17:45 bingo. I see so many people trying to get the sharpest, cleanest picture from N64 by doing HDMI/RGB mods, removing anti-aliasing and blur filters, etc. and honestly it does the system no favors. 2-D gens look great sharp, but low res pixels on polygons are an eye sore and are better left soft. I don’t even like N64 on s-video. Composite FTW!

    I have a KV-29FS150 Wega made in 2007 😎 looks amazing and it's almost new the owner almost didn't use it. You need to adjust geometry cuz those lines in the top should been not visible at all!!!

    I actually prefer these consumer sets over a pvm, I finally realised once I got a pvm that they are just way too sharp and clinical for retro gaming 240p in particular

    12:36 I thought the same, I setup the priiloader to boot the wiii to the homebrew channel where you can navigate your emulators or nintendont for gamecube games with the gamecube controller. I have the wii motes and sensor bar stored away incase the off chance you need to change the wii's video output settings.

    Great colours and picture, I think you should fix the bowing and make some basic geometry adjustments in the sub-menu. The upper left corner and upward bow could be very-easy fixes.

    • @thebalb
      @thebalb  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks for the advice! how do I access the menu that allows me to do that?

    • @NullyBird
      @NullyBird 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thebalb
      Turn tv off
      Press “display”, “5”, “vol +”, “power”
      Navigate sub menu with 1, 4
      Change values with 3,6
      Skip around the menu with 2,5
      The first 10 or so options should be for geometry, make sure NOT to touch settings you’re unsure of; it is possible to permanently damage the set with some values.
      There are lists online of which values you can change.
      To fix the bowing, you’ll need to physically turn a ring on the back of the tube inside the crt, I have a video on my channel showing this adjustment. There are other guides for it as-well.

    • @chchris25
      @chchris25 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The bowing cannot be fixed from the service menu. You need to open the TV and adjust a set of rings to correct this. Test me, it’s easy and worth it.

    Just a tip, make sure to turn off clear edge VM, I can tell by your footage that it is turned on. It adds a black border around things and it just makes things look worse, especially for 2d games.

      Some PS2 games will look low res on HD CRT yet some don't even need progress scan to look sharp. Strange because all PS1 games I have never look pixelated unless they are the pre-rendered resident evil type games

    I noticed that Ganecube games look better when played on Gamecube than on Wii. I have Monster SVideo of my Gamecube and Monster Wii components and Gamecube still looks better. The 480p difference ain't that big a deal.

    • @thebalb
      @thebalb  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah, select 480i (SDTV) as that's the highest resolution the vast, vast majority of CRTs output. anything higher and the picture won't show :)

      @@popeye6284 Yes, even with component cables, you still have to select 480i since that's the highest resolution your CRT supports. Even though your CRT can't do 480p, it's still better to use the component cables because the video quality will be sharper and more color accurate.
