I can't believe the most exciting thing in this update is the screensavers. But seriously, that flowing lock screen to desktop transition is strangely satisfying
Hum, 1) On all of my machines (including my phone) the screen saver is a blank screen. This saves battery and I like to think it would make the screen last a little bit longer. Seriously guys, if my screen saver goes off it is because I have walked away and there is no one looking at it. 2) Widgets, hello Windows Vista. I hate widgets. Apple should spend their developer man-hours on something other then useless bling.
Yeah and one would think that might slow down the Mac with all those nice transitions and 4k video footage, but this OS feels noticeable snappier and rensponsive everywhere, it's like my M1 got new life (didn't really need it but a bonus is a bonus)
Live screensaver are fine but I’m disappointed Apple is getting rid of dynamic wallpapers little by little… it’s a great way not getting bored of a wallpaper since it’s always changing. I really love it. I was at least expecting a weather wallpaper option like on iOS
I´m not giving any praise until they fix the dpi scaling on external monitors, and the external display issues, and the issues with permissions resetting all the time. And they could remove the need to type a password for every.single.little.setting or deletion or install. I already typed the password when I logged in, no need to overdo it. Mac should go back to early settings app layout too, the newer one is still confusing and tedious to use. But nah... widgets is more important I guess, jesus they got their head up their a**
I have both a MacBook Pro and a custom build Windows PC but the reason I use macOS as my main system is because of the little things they add with each update, it's the most reliable, easy to use and most enjoyable to use of the two
I was a windows user for 15 years. Switched to mac 2-3 years ago and planning on sticking with it. But all these updates have already been on windows os for SEVERAL YEARS.
The widgets are surprisingly really well made.. even more so than iOS. I think it’s easy to quantify it as small when it actually takes a lot work to make.
By my count, this is the THIRD time Apple has come out with widgets.....are they going to stick with it this time, or play fickle AGAIN and get rid of them next year?
the add to dock feature is a grat addition how clever I'm using a 2015 MacBook Air I got for only 175 here in the uk and after using OCLP to upgrade to Sonoma I'm just now getting my head round all the awesome things you can do on a Mac
The work and personalized browsing is very very cool. I also am interested in that save a bookmark into an icon. It seems interesting and hopefully a cooler experience than on iOS/iPadOS.
I wish someday they come up with more serious upgrades like adding more flexibility and options to desktop users instead of tiny updates for safari and messages and photos which to be honest are minor for a new OS version, my macbook is still on monterey because i didn't see any real update to make me upgrade the system, its generally the same
It's unbelievable that in 1997 Microsoft released Active Desktop, which was equivalent to Aerial Desktop. AD could only handle less than 10MB movies though.
the biggest change honestly is with the game porting toolkit but that's an under the hood thing. It feels as fast as before on my base specs m1 mac mini so im happy
your video, thumbs up. concise. informative. no bs. apple's release, meh. how about performance. fix contacts app. fix calendar app. fix more bugs. repeat work on performance.
Liking the new wallpapers and games mode. Other than that, I never learn to use new features in MacOS updates. Click on the wallpaper to reveal all desktop items? Surely that’s what the desktop already does; first thing I did after installing Sonoma was turn that off. Whatever OS I have installed, I still use my Macs as if they’re still running MacOS X 10.7 released in 2011 (except I never used launchpad or spaces, horrible). iCloud integration for syncing bookmarks and keychain passwords was probably the last important innovation that’s really been of any use to me.
we need this feature in windows 11. We have the old windows 7 screensavers and we lost all the vista one. They never update the built in stuff on windows come on. they are a multi billion company
My 16 inch MacBook Pro M1 chip was behaving extremely abnormally, I knew there had to be an update and now I'm here seeing the new features I should have after updating lol
Thanks for the video. So how does Profiles work for you after you have tried it? I just have the view sidebar open and have subfolders to main folders - why should I change that? I can't see the deal.
1. Safari Web Apps are awesome. Unlike Chrome web apps, they work without Safari being open. BUT ... Ad blockers that work fine in Safari as extensions, as well as system-wide Ad Blockers, do not work in Safari Web Apps. As long as there is an ad-blocker integration, they are useless. 2. Lockscreen looks fine at first but the animated memoji (if you are using one) is too small to be visible on MBP14's screen at least. I personally liked the Ventura lock screen better. 3. The screensaver transition from lock screen to desktop is awesome. But some screensavers/wallpapers I have tested are not crisp enough and seem a bit blurry. While one so far, Sonoma Evening remains static as screensaver.
Ok gotta mention some flaws on the video. No hate meant to Apple, it's users, the video's creator and macOS; just stating the facts which is that the game mode feature is meant for game development and not for heavy gaming. The framerate is bad and the graphics isn't stunning either(Using Macbook Pro 2022). It's just meant to port games from other PC operating systems to your Mac. Also the web application feature is literally available in any previous macOS thanks to other browsers like Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox etc. just pointing it's nothing new. Except for these, all other things are splendid.
Mac user for like 25 years now. Let's be honest here, I really can't see this as a serious OS upgrade. Maybe a .5 version. Screensavers (yawn), some widgets (ditto). Safari : that's not even the OS, it's just a browser - and I see no reason to start using it now (the profiles are years overdue, I can't imagine working without it). And although it's not a bad browser, there are better alternatives out there, and I would never tie myself to a platform for a generic application. Webpage as a app : nice to have, but again : there are alternatives. I think the "best" upgrade is it's (probable) enhanced stability, the further enhanced support for IOS apps (unfortunately, only Apple CPU supported ...).
I love that it's free, so it's hard to complain but I will. Besides the video conference add-ons, this is a boring update. All I want is for my apps to work better on multiple displays.
That would have been greatly facilitated by Apple admitting that forcing all apps to share a single menu that's glued to the top of one screen is dumb. The time to do that was in the transition to OS X. But nope.
Updates should always be free. You pay a hefty price for a product. The least one expects is free updates. But this update was a joke. Apple taking us for mugs
How about better cascade folder preview? How about image search and better photo app that won’t screw up your date sequences? How about a simpler itune? Built in AI writer or AI image generator?
Mistake #1 is using Apple peripherals. They have never made a competent mouse, and they gave us five disgraceful years of Jony Ive's defective "butterfly" keyboards. What POSes.
Hi there, I just upgraded from Monterey, which I kept so long since it still had the Schedule option to turn on/off the mac. I can't seem to find anything similar in this Sonoma upgrade. Is it still there or do I have to do the Terminal option? Cheers !
Weird update. I always wonder what's behind the scenes that we can't see. Also, what years does this work with or stop with for that matter? (What year of Macs just became obsolete?)
I'm still running Monterey on my 14" MBP M1, not sure I'll update to Sonoma since there ALWAYS seems to be some hiccup or ball drop from Apple on these iOS and OS updates. Looks cool and some nice features, just not sure it's really worth the risk. Sad to say that because Apple used to be the de facto and leader in getting quality updates. Could count on them to be perfect always and never an issue, now it just seems like they fix one issue while creating another
Safari profiles are an idea borrowed from Arc Browser I presume. It looks so similar. Game mode is a great idea too. I play War Thunder on my M1 MacBook Air and I got around d 30-60 FPS on high settings. I am curious if it will get better now after the update.
Updates today and haven’t noticed anything different apart from the wallpaper, need to try widgets I find most of them useless as it’s better on the iPhone. The personalised browsing is cool but that should also come to iPhone
Screensaver as feature... What a times we living...
hahaha, indeed!
I’m just glad we have them at least.. I miss the cool screen savers from windows xp, you remember the pipes lol
Your grammar helps this comment 😂
@@Samskings yeah the good old endless pipes
I would worry it drains battery, like moving phone wallpapers do
the concept of screensavers pausing and becoming your wallpaper is clean
Here after blind upgrading to Sonoma. Wow, what a slick feature. Best implementation yet.
the first time apple actually made a new concept 😂@@lightsourcex
I can't believe the most exciting thing in this update is the screensavers. But seriously, that flowing lock screen to desktop transition is strangely satisfying
I am all about the screen savers and wallpapers haha

I already had a desktop screensaver on my windows vista back in 2007... This is so crazy they released this only now on Macs.
Yeah and one would think that might slow down the Mac with all those nice transitions and 4k video footage, but this OS feels noticeable snappier and rensponsive everywhere, it's like my M1 got new life (didn't really need it but a bonus is a bonus)
Not to mention: Who the fuck use screen savers now? Why would you waste electricity by keeping your display from sleeping, with a screen saver?
Live screensaver are fine but I’m disappointed Apple is getting rid of dynamic wallpapers little by little… it’s a great way not getting bored of a wallpaper since it’s always changing. I really love it. I was at least expecting a weather wallpaper option like on iOS
FYI, there's no link in the description
Thanks for valuing my time. Concise and informative. Thank you. Well done
Desktop widgets. I remember those in Windows Vista a few decades ago.
😂😂
do you remember them fondly tho
It’s truly amazing! The new screensavers make my studio display so badass!
Would love to see what you've come up with!
can i get an aquarium wallpapers
Let's hope they come with some more interesting updates next year.
I wouldn't hold my breath to be honest.
Like what?
Or focus on core apps like Finder.
or another os rewrite like snow leopard maybe?

It's about time they brought the widgets back. Been missing this function since the days of the Emac!

The animated lockscreen is my favourite feature. I hope ios gets this update in the future

Finally widgets are on desktop! They seemed kinda useless in notifications, I usually just had the whole app open for reminders etc
The screensavers trick should work for personal Live Photos - freeze the photo as a wallpaper dependent on when if a stream of Live Photos you unlock
This video should have more visits!!!!
I think the widget part is my fav!

this is the coolest macos so far. thanks.
Going to say that this is the most effortless update ever...
Thanks for the update ❤❤❤
so is it worth it to upgrade from Ventura to Sonoma?
Would you update 2021 MacBook Pro M1 Max from Monterey to this Sonoma???
Should i update my 2019 macbook pro to sanoma or leave it on big sur
Wish you guys can make a video of what’s new compared to OS Big Sur 😅
What game was that ?
can you suggest games for mac ?

Nice update for children..Really worth going through all the bother for some new screensavers and a few widgets and a few gimmicks.
I just subscribed despite some harsh comments….glad to see this video
So you're saying nothing is new.
Finally!! I've missed having a calculator widget.. hopefully this will solve it!
What game is that at the 3 minute mark? Looks sick
1:20 we had widgets on MacOS desktop like 15 years ago with OSx Tiger hahaha.
Only Mac can call out wallpaper as a new feature and users will still get excited for it.
we need this feature in windows 11. We have the old windows 7 screensavers and we lost all the vista one. They never update the built in stuff on windows come on. they are a multi billion company
Like for the bear wallpaper 🥰
I just love this macos "sonoma"
My 16 inch MacBook Pro M1 chip was behaving extremely abnormally, I knew there had to be an update and now I'm here seeing the new features I should have after updating lol
wow features that were already 10+ years on windows now on mac, fantastic!
And yet basic functionality that was present in Windows 30 years ago (and still needed now) has been deleted. Incredible!
He's right. We need to stop this defensive fanboyism and call Apple out for it. The update is a joke. Widgets came out many many years ago.
Thanks for the video. So how does Profiles work for you after you have tried it? I just have the view sidebar open and have subfolders to main folders - why should I change that? I can't see the deal.
separate profiles for safari? finally!!!
if you are the only person using your computer, why does that even matter ?
That Safari update looks cool but I still won't use it because I just love the vertical tabs that Edge has.

love the add webpage to dock
Safari was unusable without profiles - I'm excited to finally give it another chance
But is it possible to change only background from the desktop? Just like on iPhone by change only your lockscreen or otherwise

Only 4GB of RAM was required for Monterey and Ventura. It appears that Sonoma requires more RAM.
Making you buy a Mac with more ram, part of their business plan as usual.
So... and where are actually the OS updates? Adding a couple of new wallpapers is nowadays the reason for increasing the major SW version?
How about better cascade folder preview? How about image search and better photo app that won’t screw up your date sequences? How about a simpler itune? Built in AI writer or AI image generator?
love the sweatshirt man! go browns!
the screensaver is completely amazing ! But im still trying to navigate the customized profile for safari . Hmp
Do you guys still see the notch with those wallpapers?
Can you upload your own moving screen savers?
The web apps are very useful and timely for Me. Good news..
It's a bloody shortcut. SMH
is that safari personal profile thing not something that all mac's that have safari have access to? why would that be exclusive to sonoma?
Can you have widgets just on one Desktop and not on all?
Apple: Introducing the new Apple quarter. The original simply had a bust of Washington on it, while this one now features a proud eagle.

We actually know from the developer logs. They did a lot of backend clean up I think preparing for full iOS app integration or hand off
I have a 4K Display on my Mac mini and the images on the screensavers is not that clear. Is it my display, you think?
2:51 what is the name of the game?
thanks for the info!
What is the name of the game with the flying dude?
They'll have to pry the Snow Leopard wallpaper from my cold dead hands.

If you’re running Apple silicon, it’s dumb NOT to update. Sonoma has been great for me on my M2 Mac Mini.
I just upgraded to Sonoma from Monterey.... went as smooth as silk....
I'm gonna try and find those screensavers! I'm not too good manipulating things
Honestly the only update that I would make any use of is the Safari profiles. Not much work-driven updates here, which is sad.
I liked screen savers, also some of the apps are opening faster for me
Aerial screensavers hugely still better than new Sonoma one. HUGE!
