Well... there's also the thing regarding the Dakara Superweapon. Jacob started going downhill after he and Selmak had to strain themselves too much, trying to activate the weapon
If only the writers had allowed Jack and Sam to be together in reality - how we miss that ending to their relationship! Jack and Sam together forever is what we wanted............sigh.
Actually it wasn't the writers so much as the Air Force. The show got an extraordinary amount of cooperation and assistance from the military to make this and in return had to realistically portray the military members. If you watch the behind the scenes interviews, they asked the Air Force numerous times to let them put Sam and Jack together and the Air Force always said no since that would be fraternization. As this scene points out, they could have had them together quite easily, they were just unwilling to have one of them leave the Air Force.
How was the Stargate anything like the Military it was way way DIFFERENT than the Military yes it was a show, but because it has the backing of the Government I wonder if there is a chance if there was ever is a stargate program or was one...But what I'm talking about being different hell you don't go into the Military thinking you'll could be seeing or being getting sick with Virus's like the SG1 proved you don't see that with the Military or if you do there able to be cured easily !!! In my eyes if their is ever something like the Stargate Program you have to trust someone a hell of a lot stronger than in the Military to Fight those SOB than those Normal Mother Fuckers we are Fighting right now...And that is if there real but like I said SG1 got the backing from the Government that is a bit worrying I just hope NOT all that is true that is shown on that Series !!!! And also you couldn't tell anyone you couldn't tell you BF/Husband/Wife it was a Top Secret place that was something else they should've thought about why not to allow dating/marriage....IF something bad happens/breakup then of course they HAD to be switched off the team !!!
@BartJ583 If you had paid attention, with the danger their world was in , they needed both Jack and Sam. And if you would cool your gate boner you would remember the episodes where they both gained valuable information for earth or physically saved the earth and other planets. Now imagine what might have happened if one of them had not have been there. Like when O’Neill downloaded the ancient knowledge the first time. If it had been Daniel they would have been screwed. No translator.
God, I can't take it anymore. This is the only will they/won't they relationship in TV where they don't. I need them to make just one more episode of Stargate and get Sam and Jack together in canon. I'm re-watching the entire series, and I'm feeling the emotional pain like it's mine. The pain hurts. Make it stop.
Garrett Tipton At least it is stated that they got together off screen after season 8 and the third movie would have confirmed it, according to Mr Mallozzi (a producer) and then there´s the delated scene from the Atlantis ep "Trio", there it´s pretty clear that she has something with Jack
Nerwen1000 Yeah, I've seen that clip, but it didn't make the episode. So I'm torn on whether to count it as canon or not. I think for my peace of mind I have to.
Garrett Tipton yeah, it´s really a shame that we didn´t got the third movie, RDA once said that the shipper would go nuts over it, I´m really sure we would have got our confirmation, maybe one day the script will be released as a book and speaking about books, do you know the Atlantis legacy series? There Sam and Jack are practically established as a couple and those books are approved by MGM.
But on the other hand, this is what makes their plot so special. If they had established their relationship it would be just another onscreen love. And now it's a memorable story, which makes you feel sorry for them. It also shows that not always is as you want it to be, it provides more realism to the history. But after all I'd also love to see them together, just in a single movie or something.
Personally I think is because he was afraid that he wouldn't be good enough for her, like you said with all the 'issues'. Also despite the fact that he knew she wanted to get closer, he also knew that the program needed both of them and those pesky regs were in the way. I do think that Jack grew a set and they got together after season 8, there's that famous scene cut from SGA where Sam says that she has a complicated relationship with an older man who is going to retire from Washington soon. :D
The rules were very strict about relationships between officers that are working together, with one being suordinate to the other. But with more distance between them, that works - and this could also be an in-universe explanation for O'Neill leaving the Stargate Center and going to Washington - in order for him and Carter to be "permitted" to pursue a relationship. Obviously not easy with that much distance between them, and far more difficult after she got to Atlantis - but maybe also a reason for her to leave Atlantis after one season again. It gets more complicated, regulation-wise, when Sam took command of the George Hammond and being directly subordinate to Homeworld Security (headed by Jack). So that might only be a short period of time until Jack retires. But that's uncharted waters for us.
@@Cx10110100 This was addressed way back in teh crystal Charlie episode. Sarah couldn't get over the fact that Charlie died because of the unsecured firearm and they separated, followed by divorce.
I love the part where Jacob is talking to Sam and you see a flash of understanding on her face then she puts on the mask she has to wear everyday. I have always loved watching this realshionship between them develop and the up's and way too many down's of it. But like I keep saying, I have a good feeling about Sam and Jack in the 3rd movie
Even though im sending this 11 years later. This is what came to my head when she said retire. For some reason everything rushed in my head. I didn't know the Landry would become general but somehow she saying retire put that theory in my head that O Neill would retire and Landry would be general.
I liked Kerry!! We only ever got hints to how Sam/Jack feel about each other or cryptic conversations like Jacobs talk with Sam on his deathbed. Kerry was the only 1 who had the balls to come right out and say what she thought.
Always rooted for Jack & Sam to get together, great chemistry, great angst etc. in my mind they did after this episode but it's a shame we never got a 100% confirmation
Ya know... there's nothing to say they weren't together. And Sam never had any romance arcs in the following two seasons... who's to say Sam & Jack weren't dating during the Ori war?
Thanks for your reply! :D glad to discuss it! You're right, I guess above all he thought she deserved better. There are many clues like In Point of View when he asked the Alternate Sam how "she could marry such a looser" (talking about him) or in Grace when Sam said: "What if I quit the Airforce, would that change anything or is it just an excuse?" (the fact that she thinks he might be using the regs as "excuse" not to get involved suggests she knows there's something that's holding him back).
The interaction and relationship between Jack & Sam was actually HEAVILY censured by the Air Force throughout the series. This is why people like Kerry were required, or the "device" of an alternate reality or timeline had to be employed to be open and direct. Even with the aid of Selmac, Jacob was still obligated to some extent by his Air Force career. They writers and producers obviously could have pursued the retirement solution, but that was about the time RDA needed personal time and a greatly diminished presence on the show. I agree that one of the major issues with the entire franchise has been the lack of satisfying, healthy relationships in general; and a prevalent pattern of unfulfilled, frustrating potential relationships (and I'm not only referring to romantic or sexual relationships) throughout the franchise. I don't know what the deal was. They were constantly creating excessively difficult, if not impossible, scenarios and villains for the characters which they were habitually, miraculously saving them from, to the point of absurdity. But they couldn't give us one solid, model, example of a healthy, balanced relationship between two emotionally connected and mature adults with solid communication skills?! I accept and concede that various ascended beings and ancients (and even God) assisted SG-1 (& humans at large) from time to time in dyer situations when the humans' intentions and goals were pure and worthy. This obviously has be done in subtle or hidden/unprovable ways to stay under the radar, but they really took all that to the realm of hyperbole on an almost weekly basis.
One possible relationship could have been Dr Janet Fraiser and Daniel Jackson. Daniel wasnt in the military so, there would have not been an issue there. There would have been so much potential with Cassie in the mix as well. You make a good point re the impossible scenarios whch the main characters would escape on a weekly basis, plot armour would always come to their rescue, but in season 7 they kill off Dr Janet Fraiser, for no good reason, there was no creative purpose to her death, i mean, Daniel must have died and returned about 14 times, but not Janet.
It’s that kinda talk that led to the drama crew making star gate universe. The airforce had an image to portray and since the show was in there minds actually representing them I’d say the restrictions on how they wrote episodes were actually more restrictive than we think..
Watched this again. Yes, she was right - he should have retired or at least transferred to another command one that didn't have Sam in his chain of command. Then they could have expressed openly their deep love for each other. ARGH!
B Thomp then done what, they have no common interests, no shared activities, any relationship would shortly fail as they don’t respect one another’s likes or interests and you shouldn’t have to give up who you are to have a relationship
End of season 8...Jack lifts box and tells Sam she has to go pack....cut scene to fishing before Daniel and Teal'C join them.....they got together people.
We NEVER knew why he never stepped up. As Kerry said, he had "issues". So, there really were objective reasons not to be with Sam that we never knew about. I just wished they would have told the J/S shippers. Understanding this would have been a great ending for us.
Many years after this episode (that in my mind and my heart I consider to be the last one of the original series- the sequel with the Oris never made sense to my opinion) there is still something I can't digest. It is not the fact that there was never an "explicite" ending to the Jack and Sam r/s. As much as we wanted to see them together (as in, in actual romantic scenes) it wouldn't have fit the tone of the show. It had to be more subtle. I think it was highly suggested in the end that
The secret of love is not wanting to possess it. If you love a flower you let it bloom. If you pick it, it ceases to be what you love. Love is about letting the other person to be free. Doesn't mean that is not possible in a relation. But people nowadays are too possessive. That breaks a lot of relations.
the funny thing is that he said said ´´don't let rules stand in your way´´, wich makes think that he knew that something was going on betwen jack and sam, he saw that jack was the perfect guy for her , because he treated him so nice, way that with Pete
3:37 and on I give him he's a GREAT Actor ONLY got better with AGE,But I would have DIED to had known if Anderson didn't have REAL feelings for Tapping and it wasn't just for show on the Screen !! As I say there just people/human not much different than you and me and there BOTH good looking people so I tend to REALLY wonder if Anderson and maybe Tapping didn't have REAL feelings !!! But again when you play Actor's/Actresses with the Military you sadly have to go by there REAL rules because its NOT good if they would had a Relationship while she was in his Command even though its JUST a show, there playing as Military so there are RULES sadly...
We understand throughout the show and especially in the 7th season that Sam never dared confess her feelings because she was never really sure he really loved her (and she was always making efforts to find out or get closer to him). She expected him to finally confess it was more than simple friendship, because she was a very cautious person and didn't want to be hurt if her feelings were not shared #awkward.
I don't know... On one hand, I really don't understand why they didn't put them together officially at the end of this season. Many fans waited for that, and I was one of them who mostly watched stargate because of "Jack and Sam" story, hoping for some romance between them. Anyway... it was perfect timing...Jack left SGC so no more orders which would not allow them to be together... But on the other hand, when I grew up, it stopped making me a sense that those two should be together after all that years of waiting. I mean how to be happy in a relationship with a man who kept you waiting so long? Actually, Jack's girlfriend had to push him to do some action! It would be really hard for screenwriters to write a good scenario to make it natural and romantic, but not dull and bittersweet. This way they left room for the imagination...
I think this is one of the main reasons the show didn't turn out popular... Sad. Instantly from Season 1 I could tell they both had feelings for each other.
. But what about Jack? he knew she loved him, he knew she didn't care about the regulations (so did he), so what was the deal? Did he think it was hopeless (because of work, age difference and all)? did he think it was too risky for her career? did he think she deserved better than him (which would explain why he encouraged her to be with Pete)? did he feel remorse towards his wife? Was he afraid of love??
My favorite episode & I believe its the most romantic episode with them. I love Sam & Jack & I believe they are together! On another note...If Picard & Crusher (Star Trek:TNG)can be together after 36 years of waiting, then Stargate may get their moment...❤
Okay, I never quite understood this. The rules regarding fraternization (Article 134 of the UCMJ and Air Force Instruction 36-2909) refer mainly to relationships between officers and enlisted, but could include any abuse (favoritism, etc) of rank, authority, or position detrimental to the military, none of which apply to Sam and Jack. www.thebalancecareers.com/air-force-fraternization-policies-3344063
the whole stargate series sucks at relationships. jack and sam never got together, in atlantis i thought John and Tayla where gonna be together, but instead she ended up with some guy we had never met before and had a baby from him. Lets not forget the worst of them all, in Universe Ellie and Chloe was teased but then she talked to that other guy one time and then let him hit. If they ever decide to make another stargate, thats something they need to work on.
I also think they honestly no longer cared about the regs in the end. Them not being together was because of personal things like him having issues and her being shy and unsure he still loved her -_-. But if it's only because he had an inferiority complex I'd be pissed lol. He really pushed her in Pete's arms! Even though that's a great proof of love (if we think about it), he decided it himself. They ultimately get together so he wasn't that hard to convince lol. 8 years of waiting seriously...
that they were going to end up together real soon because everything had been said and the way was cleared (I'm talking about Pete, Kerry, and other "shield" elements of their r/s), or that they even did (cf. somewhere around the last fishing scene). I was sad at the time but I understood and let my imagination do the rest. What I can't digest however is the fact that we never really got answers from Jack, nor his real point of view on WHY he never tried to be with her.
If they ever do another show of movie for stargate. Jack and Sam need to be dating and living from married. Don't think it will happen however. Sadly SGU ended early just say it started to get good.
Brad Wright is currently in talks with MGM for a new Stargate protect. Both Amanda Tapping and Richard Dean Anderson said they wouldn't mind coming back. Help push MGM to greenlight the project by signing the petition at savethegate.org
I still don't understand how all this FINALLY came out about these two yet nothing really ever happened after this. Good grief, after all the little hints and storylines between S/J and we never get something concrete between the two. Ah well.
I was and wasn't a fan of Sam and Jack getting together. I felt Jack probably cared about Sam but didn't want a committment to her where just be lovers or married. He would go to other planets and sleep with women or the one he thought was a women turned out to be 11 days old. Sam carded for Jack but was to insecure with herself. Forget rules, one of them should have took the lead and told the other one how they felt. Jack could retired again.

@@DJJonPattrsn22 Pete Shanahan was played by Peter DeLuise, one of the directors/producers of the show.
@@paulmichaelfreedman8334 actually Pete was played by David DeLuise who is Peter DeLuise’s brother.
Kind of sad that Selmak only bought Jacob 4 more years when you think about it, but it was something. Great episode.
Well... there's also the thing regarding the Dakara Superweapon.
Garrett Tipton
yeah, it´s really a shame that we didn´t got the third movie, RDA once said that the shipper would go nuts over it, I´m really sure we would have got our confirmation, maybe one day the script will be released as a book and speaking about books, do you know the Atlantis legacy series? There Sam and Jack are practically established as a couple and those books are approved by MGM.
Nerwen1000 I did not know about the legacy series. I'm gonna have to look that up now. Thanks. I look forward to it.
What happened to O'neils wife thou. They never adressed that relationship after the first season
@@Cx10110100 I'm pretty sure they divorced soon after his son died.
Sadly the third movie was never made 😒
One of the saddest episode, but also one of the best, if, not the best. I love it soo much ! And these are my favorite moments :)
Flossey j
Also her job as a CIA officer investigating the Trust deserved... maybe not a spin-off, but a recurring character role.
Always rooted for Jack & Sam to get together, great chemistry, great angst etc. in my mind they did after this episode but it's a shame we never got a 100% confirmation
Jack has a wife you know...in fact 3 of them as i recall
The producers and Tapping herself have confirmed that they are together canonically.
Ya know... there's nothing to say they weren't together.
Divide and Conquer season 4. She know.
Just so everyone commenting knows, there actually is a deleted scene in SGA that pretty much confirms that Sam and Jack eventually got together! :D
Was it ever released, or is it just something they told us about?
It’s on the DVD
@@kelvinktfong which dvd?

Very proud they kept thing professional. If its rare, its valuable.

Loove this couple so much! ❤️❤️
I'm still mad they killed Jacob off
God,I'm right with ya LOVE how Jack called him Dad almost right away and Jacob pretty much let him and wouldn't let Dick head lol...
they killed off a lot of people and groups. probably to avoid having to explore/develop them further.
I'm still mad they killed martouf 😟
Caroline Fallon Right there with you. His smile & eyes lit up every time he saw Sam...loved him...
And Janet.
Which episode is that?
Indeed
That's a very big truth, man!
the funny thing is that he said said ´´don't let rules stand in your way´´, wich makes think that he knew that something was going on betwen jack and sam, he saw that jack was the perfect guy for her , because he treated him so nice, way that with Pete
Read , Kimberley Jackson FanFiction. :D
I'm sorry, I was never employed in the first place.
You resign.
Just a Thort and There it Will Stay ;
I think this is one of the main reasons the show didn't turn out popular... Sad. Instantly from Season 1 I could tell they both had feelings for each other.
Nope. This is one of the reason its has long lasting power.
All the above I think ...
In SG-A we get a hint that they are together. He's running Homeworld command and is retiring soon
My favorite episode & I believe its the most romantic episode with them. I love Sam & Jack & I believe they are together! On another note...If Picard & Crusher (Star Trek:TNG)can be together after 36 years of waiting, then Stargate may get their moment...❤
*cry*
sooooo sad
this damn writers, they'll never come together although they're such great couple...anyway, good vid!
What about Rodney and Jennifer in atlantis
@@levitikan star gate had backing from the government they would not allow it
I also think they honestly no longer cared about the regs in the end.
I wish Sam and Jack would have ended up together.😢 It was obvious that they loved each other.
@genjacksgrl90 is there a 3rd movie?
hell yes! even she can see that! in that moment only! i loved her!
go karry! put them together!

that they were going to end up together real soon because everything had been said and the way was cleared (I'm talking about Pete, Kerry, and other "shield" elements of their r/s), or that they even did (cf. somewhere around the last fishing scene). I was sad at the time but I understood and let my imagination do the rest. What I can't digest however is the fact that we never really got answers from Jack, nor his real point of view on WHY he never tried to be with her.
Yeah I was thinking maybe he’s scared of the whole possibility of having a family again since it didn’t work out for him the fist time
If they ever do another show of movie for stargate.
We all know they secretly got together after this, why else would Sam later have a picture of Jack at Atlantis...that was a def easter egg.
If only they'd made it. :(
It's Sam who has issues, Jack doesn't have any lol
I still don't understand how all this FINALLY came out about these two yet nothing really ever happened after this. Good grief, after all the little hints and storylines between S/J and we never get something concrete between the two. Ah well.
god, I never really liked her, anyways, jack! Just go and marry Sam already, Dammit!!
the ship that never happened. :(
The show had backing from the air force they told them they couldnt
WHY didnt they get Sam & Jack together ever?! Ugh.
They did but it was off screen.
“I’m a safe bet”. I think that sums it up nicely in Sam’s mind. 🤗
3:35 Why didn't I tap that one last tiiiime?
I was and wasn't a fan of Sam and Jack getting together. I felt Jack probably cared about Sam but didn't want a committment to her where just be lovers or married. He would go to other planets and sleep with women or the one he thought was a women turned out to be 11 days old. Sam carded for Jack but was to insecure with herself. Forget rules, one of them should have took the lead and told the other one how they felt. Jack could retired again.
@genjacksgrl90 I just saw it. and read it all. I really hope this is going how we all want it to be going!
Get Jack & Sam TOGETHER!
that's all we want, well certainly what i want. I'm sick of the bullshit around their relationship and so on!
No waste of time anymore, get that film shooting!!!!

Must have missed that episode. But, I stopped watching the last two series.
Its Season 8 Episode 18 I believe. Not the last two seasons.
Even her daddy is getting frustrated with her... he should have just came out with it, and said "I know you love Jack, its no secret, so get on with it already" lol... You could see his frustration. And well she didn't know what he was taking about.
