Gil Saraiva That should go without saying. Theoretically, someone could learn to play in the exact same fashion/manner as Reeder or Homme, but you’ll never ever ever replace Garcia’s voice.
@Gene Bone kyuss was always the sum of its members. They are all unique in their own right but what made kyuss great was their talents combined, the interaction and the whole idea behind that band.
He's so fucking good, he's really so fucking good ! I had the luck to see him live in 2012. It was the only time a bassist was the star for me on stage and totally flashed me. He had so much fun and groove and badassness, it was wonderful. He's really an outstanding musician.
This is golden. Especially fun is that he thought the call from Lars was a prank by Maynard. And Space Cadet is such an awesome bass song, it's my favorite from Kyuss.
Scott is one of my biggest idols. right allongside Geezer Buttler, Justin Chancellour and Les Claypool. I think he is underrated and does not get credit for his percusive bluesy "groovemachine" style. Being a bassist I have learned a lot by listening and playng kyuss songs so Thank you Scott Oh, and the ATK is a great bass.
+TheDonUrbas nope, remeber who metallica true bassplayer was, cliff mighty burton, not trujillo not jason...and i think scott wouldnt be much better at cliff lines than trujillo, but at least he would be heared..but from what i heared in auditions he didnt have a good tone for for whom, but i dont like that much the trujillo either..okay noone can replace cliff but still

@Gene Bone LMFAO! Dude, seriously - learn more about about music. I get that you're a hardcore Kyuss fanboy, but get real. Cliff knew classical music theory and the tap harmonics he did on "Anesthesia" are way over Reeder's head. Scott has a unique interesting style, but he's not even close to as good as Cliff was, technically or as a songwriter.
Dmitry Owens knowing classical music theory doesn’t make you a better player sure as a writer and composer it helps but amazing musicians like Eddie Van Halen and the Beatles didn’t know a tad of theory
Dmitry Owens Sure arranging is more important but take Paul McCartney one of the the greatest songwriters and bass players he didn’t know any music theory until later in his life yet he created masterpieces I know plenty of musicians who are classically trained and are still very mediocre
Thats the kind of lucky find of a Riff that you cannot find studying music, That riff is so magic you must be young, kinda high and in a band, capable of making me cry. Because its like a catchy version of "my name is lucifer please take my hand"'s intro. Something that made me want to play bass in the first place.
Reeder has that laid back style, kinda has an eastern raga type vibe goin' on yet still really heavy. Hails. The Church Within is still on of my alltime heavy albums. It's what rock stars aspire to and never achieve.
None of my bass influences use classic fret fingering. I believe you have to accentuate every note with your fret hand and which finger you use is irrelevant. Scott, Geddy and Geezer can move their fret hands and fingers quickly and accurately enough to have become legends with incredible style.
@3xplisit No, the 2nd string is tuned to C# in the actual song, meaning he's tuned to Eb standard. I guess Josh is either in C# standard or Drop C# on that song.
@jaehaus he's left handed, but they don't make too many of those kinds of basses, so he took a right handed one and flipped the strings so it;s regular for him
@RavenSkyse: Lol dude it's right handed, the bass is flipped à la Hendrix. I would know, I'm left-handed and play bass. Also, the part he's talking about around 2:40 is "Un Sandpiper", which is a great song!
Scott certainly confirmed what I suspected all along: that every single of those guys who came to audition were going "HOLY SHIT! I'm actually jamming with fucking METALLICA!" and grin ear-to-ear all the while doing so. Making the cut doesn't matter, the fact that you played with Metallica, is one for the personal highlights books.
@Energybonbon90, at least the good news was that Scott Reeder's bass fills would have been too complex for any of the bassists in Metallica to replicate anyways, so therefore they were better off without his talent
I think Scott joining Metallica could have worked , if he had been Cliff's replacement back then instead of Newsted, but Metallica are a different beast now.
+bigair845 There's a difference between your skill and who you look up too.....Travis Montgomery for example is a biiiig Metallica fan and would join in 1 second, but he still wrecks Hetfield and Hammet on guitar.
@RavenSkyse No that's not what I mean it looked like he stringd it like upside down eventhough it's left handed but it's not it just looked like that :D
I agree..Kyuss and Scott Reader are everything Metallica are not. When i listen to Metallica it just screams...'bell ends'. Oddly enough, that never happens with Scotts music. Cousin 'it' rocks!!!
AOR is Lovely.. :-) It's doesn't warm me like the old stuff, but it brings a smile to my face. Have to agree with u on Metallica holding Rob back.... At the time imo Rob & Frank Bello were the most technical bassists during their reign. What I loved about st was they didn't take themselves too seriously. Lost again---4.38.....Pure brilliance
@thefunkyphantom69 do you like master of puppets? cus i recall it being after justice, or at least its what i think i cant remember. and they have always been good, never sold out, cus if they sold out, who did they sell out to?
man this sound waaaaaaaay lower than on the album. love it though. Anyone know the tuning he used on the album for this? sounds like C# standard or drop C#
@pattonPwr yeah, took me a second to twig that.... I was trying to copy and realised that I was playing it upside down.... or he is.... or we both were......
haha yes! I think he is too funky in an old school classic rock vein to work in a band like Metallica or Tool. That is why Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley kicks so much ass
Scott Reeder is one of the most underrated bassists ever.
Yes bro
Love his movement and feel. Kind of a hybrid bassist and 6 sitting guitarist in one. Playing his stuff is just fun.
Finally.... A 'this person is underrated' comment that's accurate. Dude is INSANELY underrated.
agreed.. and a fucking rad human as well
@@SomeJustice19k this isn’t accurate either. dictionary is your friend?
That space cadet bass groove is single handedly cooler than anything metallica ever did
this guy and josh were too good on welcome to sky valley
+Yomamas Nekst As if Garcia was not ...
Yomamas Nekst nothing better than Supa Scoopa
Gil Saraiva That should go without saying. Theoretically, someone could learn to play in the exact same fashion/manner as Reeder or Homme, but you’ll never ever ever replace Garcia’s voice.
@Gene Bone garcia has a great voice for Kyuss.. who else sounds like him?
@Gene Bone kyuss was always the sum of its members. They are all unique in their own right but what made kyuss great was their talents combined, the interaction and the whole idea behind that band.
Scott Reeder is a monster bass player and would be a rad addition to any band!
He wrote it during their first jam session... Amazing.
Reeder is the true successor of Geezer Butler.
skred8 Right on man
+skred8 what about Al Cisneros
Don't disrespect geezer. This guy is good but not in the top 20 metal bassist of all time
Well for starters he doesnt play metal. And if you really think the comparison is disrespectful you need to open your fucking ears
mikey1974 hetfield Lmao the top 20 metal bassists of all time?
He's so fucking good, he's really so fucking good ! I had the luck to see him live in 2012. It was the only time a bassist was the star for me on stage and totally flashed me. He had so much fun and groove and badassness, it was wonderful. He's really an outstanding musician.
And a great person.
He song he was thinking of at the end of the Space Cadet tutorial was Un Sandpiper.
One of Kyuss’ most rocking numbers. It’s my “just got home from work the day before a long weekend” song
Hello nobody!
that fucking hum
It's from 'Un Sandpiper' - genius bass riff!
This is the first time I noticed that Scott doesn't just play leftie, he plays with the strings upside down.
Damn, can't believe I didn't notice. When he played I felt something was weird :)
Just like Hendrix, amazing
@@beatbrick i thought hendrix restringed his guitar
@@beatbrick Hendrix doesn’t have his strings ‘upside down’ like this
Thats why im here
i‘ve watched this at least 20 times. most chill dude
godly grooves, one of my biggest inspos
This is golden. Especially fun is that he thought the call from Lars was a prank by Maynard. And Space Cadet is such an awesome bass song, it's my favorite from Kyuss.

Being a bassist I have learned a lot by listening and playng kyuss songs so Thank you Scott
Oh, and the ATK is a great bass.
I base my whole playing style off this man. seeing vids of Scott performing with kyuss inspired me to be more active onstage with my band.
one of my favourite basslines ever
he was considered for being in tool after paul d'amour was out as well.
Haha, I like how Maynard would be prank calling Scott
scott, literally my fav of all kyuss riffs... loved u guys so much but song 2 on welcome to sky valley!!!! thanks brotha
love from canada
scott is WAY to good for metallica. its like if Bonzo replaced Lars

Dmitry Owens knowing classical music theory doesn’t make you a better player sure as a writer and composer it helps but amazing musicians like Eddie Van Halen and the Beatles didn’t know a tad of theory
@ I give zero fucks about theory and one song wont change my mind. Reeder does not belong in Metallica and frankly Cliff did not either
Dmitry Owens Sure arranging is more important but take Paul McCartney one of the the greatest songwriters and bass players he didn’t know any music theory until later in his life yet he created masterpieces I know plenty of musicians who are classically trained and are still very mediocre
Oh god it hurts my head thinking about his strings upside down..... must learn to play though
he learned how to play by flipping over his father's bass, therefor he got used to the high string on top.
TheemuisHD dick dale style
it's not that hard.. I'm a lefty and grab my girls right handed bass and flip it over. you get used it very easily
A prank call from a certain Maynard? Damn it, Keenan ¬_¬
Beautiful, beautiful stuff.
Maynard prank calling people as Lars, this is one of the best things I've heard of
I can't believe he forgot the name of Un Sandpiper! Probably the hardest rocking Kyuss song EVAR.
Thats the kind of lucky find of a Riff that you cannot find studying music, That riff is so magic you must be young, kinda high and in a band, capable of making me cry. Because its like a catchy version of "my name is lucifer please take my hand"'s intro. Something that made me want to play bass in the first place.
the second song is "un sandpiper" from kyuss one of my all time favorites
yeah un sandpiper is sickly good!! and scott seems like a really cool dude! I hope he puts out more lesson in the future
Need more of scott!
That lick he's talking about at the end that comes from KISS comes from the song 'Almost Human'.
Scott, Geddy and Geezer can move their fret hands and fingers quickly and accurately enough to have become legends with incredible style.
had to watch this vid upside down. thanks scott.
@MrMeddled the bass isn't stringed upside down but the bass is held and played upside down. highest string is the top one the lowest the bottom one.
A certain "Maynard" hahahahhahah, sounds like him.
@sicknessguitar87 He's got the bass flipped upside down with it stringed different. E is on the top with G on the bottom.
Those are some great bass riffs.
@3xplisit No, the 2nd string is tuned to C# in the actual song, meaning he's tuned to Eb standard. I guess Josh is either in C# standard or Drop C# on that song.
Space Cadet have beautiful bass lines! I really like this song!
@jaehaus he's left handed, but they don't make too many of those kinds of basses, so he took a right handed one and flipped the strings so it;s regular for him
Don't stop the Cadet! aaaaaaaaaa :D
Underrated bassist
Amazing dude
@RavenSkyse: Lol dude it's right handed, the bass is flipped à la Hendrix. I would know, I'm left-handed and play bass. Also, the part he's talking about around 2:40 is "Un Sandpiper", which is a great song!
that is one killerrr riff.
space cadet is aural bliss.
so mellow. so goooooooood.
Damn right, that documentary Some Kind Of Monster opened my eyes... best to be true to yourself, like Scott seems to.
space cadet is the most incredible song ever
fucking love this song
scott wrote the song with josh but in this video he was using a different tuning than the original, that is why sounds very very different
Goosebumps
The song you can't remember at 2:31 is 'Un Sandpiper' Scott.
Thanks for the correction, I got the two albums mixed up with Guy and Scott. Rock on!
I didn't know he played the bass with the strings inverted...
SCOTT IS AWESOME!
Awsome Bass...
haha "its like getting the silver medal... OF METAL!"
@jaehaus it sounds pretty low even when he's playing on top though...but you're right, the bottom string looks way thicker. my bad
Scott has the fucking groove!
great bass lesson ever ! But i think in the record skyvalley He is using a different tuning
@Energybonbon90, at least the good news was that Scott Reeder's bass fills would have been too complex for any of the bassists in Metallica to replicate anyways, so therefore they were better off without his talent
So wrong.
I think Scott joining Metallica could have worked , if he had been Cliff's replacement back then instead of Newsted, but Metallica are a different beast now.
thought it was a prank call from maynard, haha thats awesome, love that guy
OMFG he plays a righty the lefty way JUST LIKE ME xD AWESOME! I ain't the only one! Not just that, Scott plays in my all time favorite bands!
It's funny to see all the haters saying he is too good for metallica bla bla bla and then to see Scott holding them in such high regard
+bigair845 There's a difference between your skill and who you look up too.....Travis Montgomery for example is a biiiig Metallica fan and would join in 1 second, but he still wrecks Hetfield and Hammet on guitar.
@thefunkyphantom69 oh i totally forgot when they came out, either way, like their change, and all the albums, but the first four are the best
I play this all wrong then. Wtf am I doing after the solo intro, that one riff that repeats? Is there a *correct* tab of this somewhere?
Kyuss played with Body Count? Dope.
Is he playing his Bass upside down? I mean is the G string where the E String should be?
he learned bass upside down cause he's lefty and I'm buying lefty's and still can't play good.
such an inspiration!
amazing ...
Yeah I think I’ve watched this once a day for like a month straight now
this guy is super cool
i wanna see how he plays those metallica songs with that upside down guitar and his monster tone!!!
The other Kyuss riff that he couldn't remember the name of the song was Un Sandpiper
@RavenSkyse No that's not what I mean it looked like he stringd it like upside down eventhough it's left handed but it's not it just looked like that :D
A certain Maynard...
That blew my mind
i think he plays it like that so its easier for him to bend those notes, its alot easier to bend downwards than upwards, so hes flipped the strings.
what are you? the hendrix of bass? is it just easier to play strung like that for you?
he should be prime minister of the bass nation
he's great...a bit more dynamic and creative than playing the old Metallica tunes...things worked out just fine....

Lost again---4.38.....Pure brilliance
scott is the man
the man!!
I love it!
Wait did he just say that he thought fucking Maynard was prank calling him as Lars? Wtf this is gold haha
Reader and Geezer the best (and Geddy)
Roberts contributions to songwritingl is pretty significant. Listen to Lights camera revolution all the way through.
sound like the end of universe!! this is the fucking master!
You're the man!
2:33, "Un Sandpiper".
@XIVDock pretty sure its a Hohner
"we thought it was a prank call from a certain Maynard" yeah I definitely see MJK doing that lol
@thefunkyphantom69 do you like master of puppets? cus i recall it being after justice, or at least its what i think i cant remember. and they have always been good, never sold out, cus if they sold out, who did they sell out to?
man this sound waaaaaaaay lower than on the album. love it though.
Anyone know the tuning he used on the album for this? sounds like C# standard or drop C#
thinking the Kiss riff he was refering to is 100,000 Years?
@pattonPwr yeah, took me a second to twig that.... I was trying to copy and realised that I was playing it upside down.... or he is.... or we both were......
can he play slap with the number 4 string in the bottom
haha yes! I think he is too funky in an old school classic rock vein to work in a band like Metallica or Tool. That is why Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley kicks so much ass
