My recollection would put the price of gasoline in 1950 as a little over 20 cents per gallon. My calculator shows this to be approximately $2.06 per gallon in current monies. Many folks went through WW II and previously the depression. Money was really important to them.
The only problem is that customers hate it when you explain to them that they're causing their own issue, _especially_ when it's true.
